SeaPass Cards On Ships

After reading a lot of different reviews and posts about the Edge, I like the idea of how the Sea Pass cards are hanging on their door when guests board the ship and can enter their rooms right away.  We will be sailing the Reflection out of Fort Lauderdale March 11th.  I am hoping that we will get use the new terminal since the Edge will be leaving the day before us.  I am also hoping the other Celebrity ships have started using the same check in process with Sea Pass cards at your room too.  Can anybody confirm this?

No matter how your Seapass cards are issued, you still won't have access to your stateroom if you board the ship prior to 1:00 PM.

With the Edge, you can go to your stateroom as soon as you board (we were onboard by about 10:50, I think) pick up your Sea Pass cards and drop off your carry ons. We spent a few minutes in the cabin looking around, took a few pictures and left until 1:00, when the cabins are ready. I'm not sure how the Reflection is doing it now.

I don’t see the big deal. First of all if your card is just “hanging” on your door knob, isn’t that a security issue? Can’t someone else take your card either accidentally or maliciously? And if I get my seapass card the “old” way I can go to a bar or restaurant and order a drink or go to my cabin, so why is that an advantage?

It’s only a security risk if you go to your cabin, drop off your carry on luggage and then don’t take your seapass card with you, then someone could come and take the card and your carry on. If they steal the card before you get to the cabin before you, then there’s nothing for them to take. When you get to the cabin and the card is missing, then you’d go to guest relations have the original card cancelled and receive a new card.

I don't see any advantage to having the card outside the cabin, especially if you want to have a drink when you board and the cabins are not ready.  We only ever have one carry on and it is small so not a problem to keep it with us for a few hours.  You could still drop it in the cabin if your card was given to you at check in.

In November Reflection was using the new RFD cards.

If they steal the card before you get to your cabin, surely they can use it to purchase items around the ship or even use it for drinks etc. if you have prepurchased packages until you go to your cabin? As Chezmarylou states above, when provided at check-in, you can use straight away and purchase items/upgrades accordingly. The only advantage is being able to drop off your carryon, which could be facilitated wherever you collect your seapass card from.

Is the job of distributing the cards the responsibility of the stateroom attendants?

We liked having the cards in the slot next to the door (usual place where dinner reservations, etc. are placed). Check-in was 2 minutes. With the facial recognition, you just head to the ship after you put your face up to the screen and it recognizes you. You don't wait in line for an agent who checks you in and issues cards. The cards are in a sealed packet and if it is opened, you need to go to GS.  If someone took your card, they would need to look like you to get a drink. We loved leaving our stuff off since we each have a carry- on and we wanted to explore the ship without dragging those around.

No problem  for us having them  up on the door after boarding....we like to drop off our carry on asap, check out the cabin  and put a few items in the safe....

I see that the pass has your deck and  cabin # on it. So if you lose it, it  appears someone might find it and get to your stateroom before you realize it is gone.

I thought they did not put room #s on the cards in the past for that reason...seems to be a  possible security issue.  I have the  cards we have used on prior cruises...but we are in Fl  right now so I can't check that...

Those aren't the cards - that is the sealed packet that has the handwritten cabin number. The cards do have the cabin number imprinted on them, without the deck number. I suppose people could go from deck to deck and try cards until they find the correct one. I would rather not have our cabin number on the card, but it is probably because people forget (it's probably saved my DH a few times 😉).

This is what the opened packet looks like:

Well..that's better. Person would have to  search  ....rather make a quick hit.

I used to write cabin no.  on a small piece of paper.....sep from the card.

Unfortunately, there is theft on board ships...cameras  etc. Our sil lost his playing Quest on Oasis..and was treated like a criminal by ship security..They actually searched the room to rule out he had not  hidden  the camera. Very upsetting as he  was out the camera and many photos from the cruise and others that were not  downloaded!   Never recovered the camera..lesson learned!

We never put anything  of value down, even for a minute in the stores, bars, gym, spa,  pool area, etc  unless one of is is watching it.

But glad the cards are not as bad as I thought from seeing  the first photo!

New number on our  Seapass cards this cruise. Anyone know what the number in the upper right corner above your captain's club status means ? Ours was 17, Looks like  vtcruising's number was 29.

When we got on the Edge in May, it took about 2 minutes to go from dropping off our luggage to walking across to the ship.  The best part of having the cabins available for carry-on drop-off is not having to drag your luggage around the ship AND not having to dodge other people's luggage while looking around the ship or having lunch or a drink.  Our cabin steward was in the hallway when we got to our cabin and I got the feeling that he was keeping an eye out for his assigned area, not only to meet the people, but to watch for others who might want to pick up someone else's SeaPass.  Remember, most of us have already uploaded our photos, so they know (sort of) what we look like.

As far as the original question about Sea Pass cards being at the cabin door, I suggest looking up a roll call for the most recent Reflection sailing and ask on that board.  Since they are on the ship or will soon be, they will be able to find out for sure for you.

My cruise started on the 29th - did yours start on the 17th? Just a guess...

Curious - just looked at our backlog of cards and none show that number.  The sail date is in fact immediately below the ship name so I can't see any particular value in putting it in the corner as well. We were off Silhouette last week.  Following with interest....

OP - in response to your original question.  As ships are refurbished this new system comes into play.  Reflection is not due until 2023, so it looks like you'll still have the old system in place.  Sorry!

Maybe 27 is the maximum number of drinks I was allowed per day for the alcohol package .... I don’t remember much about that cruise....😉

Summit has this system it was seamless and very appreciated to drop off the carry ons.   We had a Royal suite and were escorted to the room where the keys were waiting on the door.  We dropped the carry ons and looked around the room.   Nice not walking around until 1 with the carry ons.

Both good guesses VTcruising!  Our ship did not leave on the 17. Never hit 17 drinks in one day to test that theory. I am  glad that with the never system ( or is it with the suites? )  your drinks are not counted on the final invoice. They just show up on the scale in pounds.

17 is also not the number if cruises we have been on . It IS the length of our longest X cruise to date.

Well unfortunately I haven’t been on a 29 day cruise. I wish!  I’m at work - can’t wait to go home and check all of my cards. We must solve this mystery.

Oh wait, I’m 29 years old - are you 17? 😀

Let's just say I am old enough to be intrigued by the flower power cruise you have booked next year. I had not heard about them .🌻

I looked at my cards and the more recent Suite cards have the numbers and my recent AQ card didn't (though was the Flower Power charter). I started to wonder if it identifies your butler - I was trying to think of something suite-related. When I go onboard next, I will ask! 🙂

Sounds nice. Looking forward to the new system when we board the Summit on 8 September.  We won't be in a suite.

Thanks, I'd love to know what it means. We tried asking an officer on the way off the ship. He said he did not know but would tell us on the next cruise. Perhaps we  should have asked our butler.
