Looks like we'll all be calling Princess or just waiting!

See you onboard!

I have a suggestion: download the MedallionClass™️ app and open it to see what it shows. I, and several friends (who are all booked on the Sky for the same trip as you) , have had good luck using the new version of that app and have been able to obtain our OceanReady Passes. (The "OceanReady Pass" is the new version of the Boarding Pass.)

Similar experience for me with the updated MedallionClass app for the Sky in November...yesterday everything was “green” so I could order the OceanMedallion;  today the Travel Documents have a red circle with a white exclamation point that it’s incomplete.  One time I was able to confirm all of my travel documents were “green” but the next time the incomplete icon was back again & it now says “Error:  Unable to retrieve travel documents, please try again later”.

I had the same experiences for our Spring cruise using OceanReady…one time everything was done, the next time it was incomplete, the next time it was done, etc.  Very frustrating but obviously there are still glitches despite the updated app originally appearing to be fixed...not yet! 😳

Is there any one else who thinks that this medallion thing is just another way, like Big Brother, to track your whereabouts,  Including your personal information, what you spent money on, how often you were in a bar or casino or how much you spent?

There are too many hacks around the world to get your info. Not just on the ship but everywhere.

Every bank, governmental agency, and data bank has been hacked.

I wouldn't ever give my info away to any cruise line or other company that wanted my location. If you trust Princess, go ahead.

I'm very leery of loading information into an app on any smartphone, and here's why.

""Using the implant, hackers could access Apple customers' data, including their passwords and personal contacts, as well as messages sent through iMessage, WhatsApp, Gmail and Google Hangouts, according to Project Zero researchers.

Almost every version of Apple's iPhone operating system — from iOS 10 through to the latest version of iOS 12 — was vulnerable, he said......"All that users can do is be conscious of the fact that mass exploitation still exists and behave accordingly; treating their mobile devices as both integral to their modern lives, yet also as devices which when compromised, can upload their every action into a database to potentially be used against them.""

Perhaps AskOceanMedallion can address the security of their apps and why it is OK to load your passport photo and other information into a smart phone - especially an iPhone.

Can you just keep the Medallion in your pocket, purse to use it? Or does it have to be visible?

Also, after reading many frustrating comments about “ check in” on line, can you still do it at the port?

we will be traveling with 3 other couples- 8 of us- we will be able to locate each other?

Thanks!  I’m a senior who, although somewhat comfortable with computer technology - I am concerned about going from a simple card to an app and  Medallion 😞

I’m on the Royal now and it’s very easy. Make sure you are Ocean Ready. Download the medallion app which has a couple of apps included.

Also so download ocean compass. You can assign shipmates.

I love it. I sling it around my neck and go hands free.

So to confirm when you get on board connect to the on board internet and everything works from there.

The medallion works from your pocket or purse to open your door, very handy! I wore mine around my neck for getting off and on the ship as you need to tap it, then I put it in my bag.

Keep an open mind about getting set up at home. We used the 'old' apps and only had a couple of issues... a second try at a picture or proofreading our passport numbers (that can pick up typos off the glossy passport paper) did the trick. It really does speed up your embarkation although staff at the terminal can assist you.

For 'Shipmates', you put in their cabin numbers and names... they get a notification and give you permission to find them... and vice versa. Occasionally, Shipmates didn't work if the ship's intranet wifi dropped out. A few times Shipmates was 'stuck', I just logged out and in again and it worked. Again, very, very handy! It also isn't an exact science if your Shipmate is on the move. Funny, my sister and I were chasing each other in a circle at the Horizon Court!

It's not difficult to use.  If needed, you can get help onboard.  Like most things, easy... once you know how. Your 'password'/ID is your birthdate... easy enough to remember!

I'm very confused with the MedallionNet. I received 3 different answers from Princess. First rep said MedallionNet is wifi but much faster than the traditional wifi on the ship. She said it's totally free and unlimited. Second rep said MedallionNet is the same as the traditional wifi, no faster than the old wifi. She further said it is NOT unlimited and it's not free. 3rd Princess rep said MedallionNet is optional and anyone can sign up for it but the cost is $9.99 a day unlimited and $5.99 a day unlimited for Platinum and Elite members. As you can see Princess reps themselves are totally clueless. Hopefully some of you with MedallionNet experience on Princess ships can clarify this confusion. Thanks.

The last rep sounds correct. I paid $59.99 unlimited for the week.  I am not elite so could not grab that deal.  The wifi is much faster than ships without medallion net.  You can stream Netflix with medallion net.  Medallion Net works best in southern hemisphere;  it is somewhat slow in northern tier like Alaska, or Northern Europe. There is a video on this thread explaining how medallion net works

So to confirm......in order to get apps you have to use their WiFI or a separate system?  I really don’t want to be forced to purchase internet.

A d you take your own picture at home and scan your pass?  They don’t do it at the pier? ( we don’t have a scanner)

Thank you all for taking time to give me info!!

So quick question for the newbie here. I download all the apps then read there is one new app with everything. So I take it that is what everyone is using.

Your right the new app is called  Medallion Class. It’s very easy if you all really have the Ocean Ready app. All you have to do is enter your password. All your information will show up on the Medallion Class app.

You do not need to purchase internet, you connect through the ships intranet which is free. You do not need a scanner, you can upload a picture from your phone. The whole point is the less that they have to do at the pier, the quicker everyone gets aboard.

This (above quote)!

Some people aren't familiar with 'intranet'. It's the ship's wifi network that only allows passengers to access ship apps and information.  The third rep described in #992 was correct.
