Kiwi Kruzer Posted July 10, 2019 Author #283 Share Posted July 10, 2019 Arriving in Portland, Dorset. Portland is a central part of the Jurassic Coast and is very important for its geology and landforms. Portland stone is famous for its use in British and world architecture which includes among many others, St Paul's Cathedral and the United Nations Headquarters . Portland Harbour is one of the largest man-made harbours in the world. The harbour was made by the building of stone breakwaters between 1848 and 1905 and played prominent roles during the First and Second World Wars. Rare MicCanberra Posted July 14, 2019 #299 Share Posted July 14, 2019 Great port for geology and such. The Golden Circle tour (or similar) is a wonderful way to see many of the natural attractions. The city itself has some excellent architecture as well.
