Please name one restaurant that serves a true Kobe beef burger (hint, there are not any).

Gonzo70, Thanks for the hint but I am not really arguing your point. I am totally agreeing with you.   So we are going sideways a bit on this thread and maybe even a bit of a hijack so my apologies. An authentic Kobe steak is extremely rare to find and maybe none of these places would grind it into a very expensive burger.  But they might if you really wanted one and could afford to pay! There are only 8 restaurants that serve certified Kobe beef in the US.  The link below also is a good recent article and lists certified Kobe restaurants in Tokyo, Japan.  Maybe they might make a burger on occasion.  But never will we find a real one on a ship unless it is a private yacht owned by somebody with a lot of money to spare!

 https://www.newsweek.com/eat-kobe-beef-495429

Here are the eight certified Kobe beef restaurants in America:

1. 212 Steakhouse Restaurant, New York, NY

2. Alexander's Steakhouse-Cupertino, Cupertino, CA
3. Alexander's Steakhouse-San Francisco Restaurant, San Francisco, CA
4. SLS Las Vegas - Bazaar Meat by José Andrés Restaurant, Las Vegas, NV
5. Jean Georges Steakhouse, Aria Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, NV

6. Nick & Sam's Restaurant, Dallas, TX
7. Wynn Las Vegas – SW Steakhouse Restaurant, Las Vegas, NV

8. Teppanyaki Ginza Onodera, Honolulu, HI

if you can do without a burger for the trip - you might be better off. So many better choices.

I do understand the point you're trying to make.  But some people want to eat fish and some people want a burger.  Food quality should be high enough that you don't have to choose.

In your opinion. Just for my own curiosity, what would you recommend instead of a mast/pool grill burger for lunch?

We've sailed on 3 S class ships and the burgers in the Mast Grill have always been something we've looked forward to. I usually go for the beef one, my wife's a vegetarian and she loves the veggie burger.

We felt the burgers in the Mast Grill were definitely better than the burgers in the Oceanview cafe buffet. We just completely a cruise on Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas and the burgers in the Windjammer buffet were the worst ever. Really missed Johnny Rockets, which isn't available on the Quantum since its all sailings from China.

Eat something else.  I assure you, you will gain 5lbs after your cruise and not starve!

Sometimes it's just nice to have a burger.  Is it unreasonable to expect quality?  What else should we eat?

Try a salad- perhaps with some grilled chicken.  A plate of fruit- or for those who enjoy pasta- some of that.  They also have coldcuts so you can have a sandwich- so many options at the buffet or if a restaurant is open, eat at one.  What do you eat at home or work for lunch?

Try a burger at the pool.  If you don't like it, don't finish it, throw on a cover-up and go into the buffet where you can choose anything.

I don't eat much fast food at home so on a cruise I do like one of the mast burgers.  I think they have good flavor, even if they aren't made out of spun gold as many expect on a ship.  What I also do that is interesting is that I don't use any steak sauces at home (I like my steak plain), so on a cruise I go into the buffet with my burger and there is a section near the other meats where they have 3-4 different steak sauces lined up and I'll try a little of those on my burger for a change.  Found out I like HP.

The last thing I'm going to do (on a cruise of all things) is tell someone what they should eat!

Want a burger?  Eat a burger.  Unfortunately I haven't found any "good" complimentary ones on Royal Caribbean or Celebrity.  The burgers at mast grill aren't bad in my opinion, and will do if you just want something to grab and go.  We tend to eat lunch at the buffet primarily for the variety offered, or the main dining room for the relaxed pace and slightly better food quality.

I have to admit that I do like a burger now and then but I don't analyse the thing.  I order it, eat it and fill a hole.  I think you lot are reading too much in to this.

Whaaat?

You are no longer allowed to eat a burger *anywhere*.

😞

All we could assume is maybe they had a problem getting the regular meat from their vendor and had to deal with whatever PR had for them.  Also, I do not recall the menu saying it was lamb.  I think it was just really bad beef.

I seriously doubt if PR had anything to do with it. Celebrity & Royal source most foo from suppliers in Florida who ship goods to the ports outside of continental U.S.

50 + cruises and I don't understand why a burger thread gets such enthusiastic posts.  I thought X was "relaxed luxury", guess that's quite subjective nowadays.

Disclaimer:  I've eaten maybe 6 burgers during 16 years of cruising at least 3 times a year.  Oh yeah, I did have a fast food burger, big mac, back in high school, 1967.  Give me a filet mignon, medium rare please, and then I'll gush about it.  (or not).

If you want to see enthusiastic posts, just wait again when Celebrity wants to introduce a quality burger for a fee at the Mast Grill.

Yes always medium rare please.  I guess some of us get passionate about food.

Where's the "kill this thread" emoticon😉

(Of course, I just bounced to the top...🙄)

(And before anyone else says it, I know that I can simply skip reading it, but seeing on the first page of posts day after day is like an itch that needs scratching. I think it's the hyperbole of the title that annoys. )

No need to reply!😂

Yes, as I stated in one of my parentheticals, but like dress code threads, it's hard to resist. This thread is even being mocked on other threads now, which I adore!🤣
