As long as you are thinking of making a change, how about considering a different line?

Good point. Why start at the bottom when there are better cruise lines out there for about the same price? The chance of coming away with a favorable impression of cruising is more likely on lines other than the entry level ones.

Are other lines going to give them a free cruise?  Because this is a casino freebie (only taxes/fees) cruise.....

Thanks everyone for your input, I have to give it Serious thought everyone has been very helpful.

I say go for it. You personally have nothing to compare it to so you should have a blast, If you're like most of us you'll be hook on cruising after your first cruise. 🥂

Did OP say they'd already booked?

Ok thanks, this cruise I got through a casino “free” I have to pay for port charges ,taxes plus administration fee what ever that is for inside cabin..

Depending on how the “port charges, taxes plus administration fee whatever that is” all work out, “free” can mean something a whole lot different than “no cost” - or even low cost.

The question remains: if NCL is giving it away, how much is it likely to be worth?

Royal's casino gives out all kinds of freebie cruises... does that mean those are worthless, too?

Well, the cruise in question IS an NCL cruise! Kind of like winning a steak dinner at Denny's instead of at Ruth's Chris Steak House!

But at least it isn't a cruise on North Korea's cruise line. https://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/14/world/asia/north-korea-seeks-to-lure-tourists-to-holiday-cruises.html

To the OP:  here is a thread that discusses the costs and savings benefits gained for a similar NCL cruise.

I am not familiar with Royal.  I read OP’s later post about “administration fee whatever that is”.  It is obvious that by the time port charges and taxes are added to required service charges  and the “administration fee” that “freebie” is hardly an appropriate term.

I never said worthless, but I repeat my thought that it is unlikely that NCL would give away anything of value.

It would be interesting to learn the total amount out of pocket OP would wind up paying for that “free” cruise in a small, dark, inside cabin.

Most cruisers cruise for the experience of cruising and exploring and enjoying the ship.  I would NEVER pay money for a cruise and hide in my cabin all day!  I just came off of a transatlantic ... MANY sea days and some rough weather.  I LOVED it ... really enjoyed the 30 - 40ft. swells ... SO MUCH FUN ... but I grew up on a boat ... not living on one ...but dad had a boat and we'd go out on the Atlantic and the swells would surge ... a lot of fun.

There are too many people to meet and dine with and play games with ... that's what I love about cruising.

Never said we stay in the cabin all day.

But we do spend some time there.

Hard to have breakfast on the balcony with an inside cabin.

Or sit in the quiet late at night watching the sea go by.  Or wake up in the middle of the night and step out to see the stars and sea.

Yes, we spend a lot of time out of the cabin also.

I'm going to estimate $200 - $300 for 3 days cruise ....

Hmmm. I can't remember ever having someone tell me how much time I had to sit in my cabin or on my balcony, whether an "appreciable length of time" or not. But, I get your last point and agree with it. 😉

Haha. It made perfect sense when I thought of it.  Maybe not so much on paper though & won't be the last time, I'm sure.    Anyway, it is all about the spice of life I guess.

Happens to me all the time. What seemed like a brilliant idea soon is shown to be anything but. My wife is quite good at pointing those out to me. 😂

What is the ship and cabin number? I'll have a look on cruisedeckplans.

Questions about cabins actually belong on the Cabin Selection board:

while the question of your particular booking situation may require input from people familiar with NCL policy.

Is this the cabin you originally asked about? because 12531 is a Virtual Balcony category CF concierge Inside Family Suite, with approximate square footage of 572... Not what most cruisers would call terribly small!
