As far as musicals go, Hairspray isn't that old. It first premiered in 2002 and RCI started performances of it in 2009. In terms of the "gap" between when a show premieres and when Royal first runs it, here's the spread:Cats (33 years - first premiered in 1981, first premiered on Oasis in 2014) Chicago (35 years - first premiered in 1975, first premiered on Allure in 2010) Grease (45 years - first premiered in 1971, first premiered on Harmony and Independence in 2016) Hairspray (7 years - first premiered in 2002, first premiered on Oasis in 2009) Mamma Mia! (15 years - first premiered in 1999, first premiered on Quantum in 2014) Saturday Night Fever (13 years - first premiered in 1998, first premiered on Liberty in 2011) We Will Rock You (13 years - first premiered in 2002, first premiered on Anthem in 2015 Edited October 7, 2019 by garnetpalmetto

Spamalot would be hilarious!! 😄 I'm a huge Monty Python fan and would love it but I recognize that Monty Python is not for everybody. You either "get" Monty Python or you don't. Sadly, I think it would be loved by some but hated by too many. Edited October 7, 2019 by Tree_skier

Well, it depends on which ship you are sailing on and I don't have a cruise compass in front of me but off the top of my head: The regular Royal production shows. Piano player at the Schooner bar. Guitar player in the English pub Live bands at Bolero's, Viking Crown Lounge, wherever. Dance party Ice Skating show Aqua show Quest Karaoke Theme parties (70's, white party, silent disco...) Casino Pool-side movies. Plus, a whole lot more that I can't think of right now. Not saying I do all those....watching movies is probably the last thing I'll do unless I'm too exhausted from the prior nights fun......but there are plenty of fun activities. JupiterTwo Posted October 7, 2019 #64 Share Posted October 7, 2019 I guess I'm more in the camp of family-friendly shows that appeal to the most people. The only show I saw was Saturday Night Fever on the Liberty, and they were constantly warning us about the "adult themes" in the show. I'd suggest something that's more of a revue style, like Smokey Joe's Café or Fosse. Steve

I find only two of the items on your list appealing. I'd much rather see any of the musicals onboard, for instance, than take part in theme parties or be subjected to the pianists at Schooner or the guitarists in the pubs. Rare little britain Posted October 7, 2019 #66 Share Posted October 7, 2019 When I did the backstage tour on Anthem last week, the guy said that WWRY was coming up for 5 years and they didn’t know if it was going to be renewed at dry dock. Just repeating...don't shoot the messenger ! +1 for Spamalot!
Rare island lady Posted October 7, 2019 #67 Share Posted October 7, 2019 (edited) What fun would that be if there was only one entertainment venue for everyone? Really small 50 or so passenger ships...sure...limited. But you have a large cruise ship with a much larger passenger count...it is a good thing to have so many things to choose from. 😉 Edited October 7, 2019 by island lady

Rare CruisinCrow Posted October 7, 2019 #71 Share Posted October 7, 2019 When we saw Grease on Indy, a lot of people complained about the "adult themes". I can't imagine how much they'd complain about Chicago. But I'd love to see Chicago.
