island visitor Posted January 15, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2020 I know this question has been discussed before a number of times and I apologize for bringing it up again, but here goes. Cruising on the Oasis this month and we haven't cruised on RCI for a few years so was wondering if very many men wear nice shorts in the MDR for dinner? hallasm Posted January 15, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2020 Personally I would never wear shorts when having dinner in a restaurant - hence I would never wear shorts for dinner in MRD. Shorts will for me be acceptable in Windjammer. - might be because I'm from Denmark🤵. 11

Ditto living in Florida we always wear shorts to dinner. Only time we wear long pants is if it's too cold outside😇

The question wasn’t what you would do. there’s many posts here saying they have eased the dress attire for dinners. im bring 1 pair of dockers with me next week on the HOS just Incase. But everything else are shorts. And button up shirts. Being a UPS driver. We never wear pants. For Breakfast lunch or dinner lol. 1

My husband was a UPS driver but has been retired for 6 years and he loved to wear his shorts too! Thank you for your comment.

I tried to say - I do not find shorts appropriate for dinner - do not wearing shorts myself for dinner - and I would prefer 'no shorts' in MRD. However realize that dress attire for dinners has been eased. At my last cruise the dress code for most of the days was 'Laid Back Lounging' which I translate to: jeans, polos, blouses or sundresses are listed as appropriate dress for dinner in the MRD. Shorts are welcome for breakfast and lunch. Agree that shorts might be appropriate for Casual.

May have to retire early and leave California and head to Florida. That’s the actual plan for retirement. But Florida might come sooner than later. Unfortunately. Not what’s actually happening on these cruises. the dress code has changed a lot. But thank you for your opinion. unrealHeather Posted January 16, 2020 #19 Share Posted January 16, 2020 It is discourage in writing (and it's printed on the daily schedule) but whether they will turn you away at the door of the MDR is up to the manager at the door. We end up at Windjammer because of this. Can he bring a pair of pants and change for dinner. Linen pants can be as comfortable as shorts really if temperature is a problem.

This isn’t the roaring 20’s anymore. Times have change. Attire has changed. people can be well dressed and not be in a stuffy suit and tie. I’d beat most everyone that says you néed to be dressed up is retired. times have changed. And the cruise lines are adjusting to change.
davekathy Posted January 16, 2020 #23 Share Posted January 16, 2020 If the staff at the entrance to the MDR is cool with those that wear shorts in the MDR in the evening that's all that matters.

After 60+ cruises, I'm going on a little 5 night cruise next month with my husband, son, grandson, and great grandson and it will be the first time I won't pack a suit for my husband or anything dressy for me. It will be a blast! 4
unrealHeather Posted January 16, 2020 #25 Share Posted January 16, 2020 You can always try to rock the Bremuda Suit and see if they let you into the MDR. https://www.gotobermuda.com/article/uniquely-bermuda-fashion
