  • Some interesting and developing coronavirus issues in the Pacific.  Silversea shipmate Terry from Ohio is currently aboard Oceania Regatta and reports that both Samoas refused them entry. Tonga is closed to cruise ships and now, instead of making Huahine their first port of call in French Polynesia, they must be cleared at Papeete first before calling at any of the other islands.

After a bumpy night we are sailing our final leg into Papeete this morning through a tropical storm, with heavy rain and poor visibility. Unfortunately we loose 3 of our bridge players and have a total of about 40 guests joining us.

We await information about itinerary changes for the next leg.

James Packer’s super yacht parked next door

We are arriving now on the Oceania Regatta and will be docking next to your Silver Whisper.  SS ship looking good, despite the rain and weather here.  Front seems "stuck" over this region.  Also saw James Packer's super yacht parked right next door!!  We will see if the weather starts to clear or not. Good to be in your "neighborhood"!!

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

Great to see the R Two docked alongside

Appreciate your picture posting of the Regatta (or R2) in the Papeete port today.  Below is a picture I took in Tahiti of your ship being docked next door. When are you departing and to where?  We next go to Bora Bora for two days there.  Then to Raiatea on March 4.  Return to Papeete on March 5 as depart and head back to LAX and then home to Central Ohio.  Will our paths cross again?

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

From our Oceania Regatta earlier today, here is view of the Silversea Silver Whisper.  Looking great on a rainy day!:

Another Captain’s get together this evening and as expected we will not be going to Lifou, New Caledonia but will arrive in Sydney on the 19th, a day early, and unfortunately still at White Bay. We will also no longer get to Aitutaki, Cook Islands, but call at Raiatonga (not sure of spelling), so Fiji and Tonga are still ok.

In Bora Bora now for our second day and now see the Silver Whisper sailing in for this famed location.  We are all hoping for decent weather today.  Good luck to those on board this Silversea World Cruise.

Here is an example of the welcoming musical group you should see as you depart your ship's tender at Bora Bora.:

We just had an announcement from the Captain that we can no longer dock at Rarotonga, Cook Islands tomorrow and have also been barred from Tonga. That means 4 more days at sea and hope that we will be able to land in Fiji when we get there.
