Ports being canceled

MSC was denied at Jamaica and Grand Cayman. There was also a carnival and Costa ship denied at tortola and st Lucia last week - forget which is which. If you Google it pops up.

As for being denied - nothing you can do! You could skip a port if it's really windy or if there was a medical emergency that impacted the itinerary. Nothing to do but shrug and remember you're on vacation so it can't be that bad.

St Lucia turned away a ship back on Feb 3rd, a month ago. Since then, a number of NCL ships have gone there with no problem. DHs dad went to St Lucia on a Princess cruise last week and they had no problem.

The MSC ship was not allowed into 2 of its 3 ports of call because of a crew member

They were allowed at Cozumel but had to wait overnight at sea to get clearance for the next morning. There they stayed until evening

All passengers on that ship are getting a FULL refund from MSC because of the disruption in their cruise

Well, that's not exactly what the news is saying, unless you have an updated source.  Full refund for missed excursions and OBC, which is what would be expected.  Conflicting reports on whether the overnight at sea was due to clearance issues or bad weather.

"In a note to passengers shared with TIME, the ship’s captain apologized for the voyage’s itinerary changes and any related “inconvenience,.” The note added that MSC would be providing refunds for missed excursions in Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman, along with a $200 on board credit per stateroom.  https://news.yahoo.com/cruise-ship-carrying-over-6-165429346.html

Oh the challenges with finding accurate and current information. That happens when news outlets are all fighting to carry the story and cruisers do that as well. Old news is repeated sometimes. Its hard to know which one is updated and accurate.  The captain of the ship as well as passengers on the ship have confirmed a full refund and the reason for the overnight wait for Cozumel. Im running to bed due to work. Im guessing that someone will post a source document of some sort for you with updated and accurate info about that sailing. So many of the articles people posted in those two threads about that situation just repeated info from other sources and was not entirely accurate or up to date. Good night everyone.

If you go to the MSC forums, there is lots of current information (with copies of the letters passenger's received) on the just completed Meriviglia cruise.  They were given full refunds for the cruise, as well as OBC and possibly FCC.  Just home from the Encore and was able to follow this story from there.

Not having events over 5000 people is just bluster to make it *seem* like you're not doing anything. The virus will spread to other people just as easily in a group of 10 as a group of 5000. The large crowd might speed up things slightly, but it's not like one infected person can come in close enough contact with all 5000 in a short go anyways. Plus it's ignoring the fact that people are way more likely to forgo extra fun stuff when feeling ill but likely to still go to work/school/shop/etc when you're sick.

Yeah, could you imagine them cancelling all events over 5000 people here?  The Sports and Entertainment people would have a cow!  Particularly with the MLB season coming up, NASCAR in full swing, spring concert tours already selling out.  Heck, even the XFL is pulling way more than 5000 per game!

Rodeo is starting today in Houston with 100,000+ people a day for the next three weeks.  There will be riots if they have to cancel.
