purduemom1 Posted May 19, 2020 #427 Share Posted May 19, 2020 Hi Lois, that is quite a weight loss over 2 weeks. Do you think some of it might be because you are eating differently and watching carbs? I hope all all goes well with your appointment tomorrow. I am low in Iron.....they just continue to find things wrong with me.☹️ Now, I know iron pills can cause constipation and we don't want that!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially after my system seems to finally getting to feel normal. So, I am having an "Iron Infusion".....one on Thursday........and a 2nd one next week. They put it in an IV and it takes about 30 minutes. And my Cardiologist wants me to have a stress test. That is 2 weeks from today. Now tomorrow is the appt with the Kidney Specialist. PLEASE let us hope for good news. Oh Lois, you are really getting hit with everything, aren't you? Keep your spirits up -- your more recent posts sound more like you. Sounds like you have a good medical team looking after you. Hopefully once you get all the underlying causes addressed, you'll feel much better.
awhfy Posted May 19, 2020 #429 Share Posted May 19, 2020 Lois, that’s a big weight loss in two weeks. Likely the water weight from the swelling & the new diabetic diet. Didn’t you say you’re taking thyroid meds too? That can cause significant weight loss until you get regulated. Let’s hope all these tests get you feeling great again. I have my preop anesthesia Videoconference in an hour...what to wear!

When it rains, it pours, it seems. I had the same thing last year: find one thing, tests, find another thing, tests, find another thing, etc. Each time something is found, a new med, have to rebalance it with existing meds, etc. Sucks to get old! My vitamin deficiency was D. Still on massive doses. Fortunately, constipation is not a side effect. The weight loss is probably due to both the water retention and the new diet and the Type 2 med. This is where my nutritionist came in handy - she said people tend to go overboard on the diet at first and actually don't eat enough. You eat less and you try to eliminate all the carbs. She had me write down exactly what I ate everyday for a week and she analyzed it. I was WAY under on my carbs. I was doing maybe a quarter of what I was supposed to have and my overall food intake was low. I do recommend you get a referral to a nutritionist/registered dietitian to get your new eating down correctly. good luck with the cardiac test and the kidney function test!!!!

cruise kitty Posted May 19, 2020 #432 Share Posted May 19, 2020 going on topic here for a moment, if any of you need/want masks I just received some really cute ones from a company called Johnny Was.... it was a pack of 5 for $25 USD & they are really cute prints & are made of a cotton/poly charmuse... they also have silk ones for $40 if you want to get fancy.... they are super comfortable & have a little pocket for a filter if you want. My office will be reopening in a few weeks with limited hours... I'll be doing a combo of work from home & in office & masks will be required any time more than one person is in a room & these are totally work appropriate :) I did the "signature print" pack https://www.johnnywas.com/masks.html
purduemom1 Posted May 19, 2020 #433 Share Posted May 19, 2020 Cruise kitty, those masks are so cute! I like the behind the ear style because I would probably have problems with a tie style. I like the pack you chose. I have disposable masks but these would be nice for special occasions! Oh wait we aren’t planning any of those are we? I see that this is a store with So Cal locations. Have you ever been to their stores? Thanks for the details and link. Sharon
Rare Lois R Posted May 19, 2020 #434 Share Posted May 19, 2020 Hi girls, well the Kidney Dr said I look good and she would not have recognized me! I did learn a couple of things. My right kidney is smaller than my left----she does not know why and I asked her again what caused the whole thing (this is the same Dr who treated me in the hospital).......she has no answer. I brought her my lab results from my GP and in 3 months I will have an Ultra sound on my kidneys. She did say Kidney function varies from 1 to 5,,,,,,,,,, 1 is FULL GO....5 is DIALYSIS.....I was nearly a 5 when they admitted me.........the liquids (IV) worked and she said I am now in the 3 range. The only way to tell if things are going correctly inside? Labs......but I am drinking between 1 and 2 liters of water per day so she cannot say I am dehydrated anymore🙂 And yes, diabetes can have an effect on your organs..........and so can different medicines......

That's some good news. Just keep doing what you're doing. Oh - you said you like Mrs. Dash. Trader Joe's has a thing called "21 Seasoning Salute" that is a non-salt seasoning that is very similar to it. (I had to go down the hill to pick something up, so I did a TJ's run. Re-stocked my usuals that I keep in the freezer).
slidergirl Posted May 20, 2020 Author #439 Share Posted May 20, 2020 Johnny Was and Sanctuary are both lines that you can find in the Sundance Catalog (clothes, not masks). I just got my J. Peterman special catalog in the mail yesterday - it has masks also. My linen shorts are Sanctuary from 2 years ago. I can't afford Johnny Was - I love it because it has that boho going, but I just can't pull the trigger on any of it. I get the Johnny Was catalog in the mail, so I just sit and lust over a lot of it. Tonight's dinner is a salad with mixed baby greens, shrimp done on the stove with lemon pepper, avocado, grape tomatoes, and a spicy peanut dressing. Dessert will be a bowl of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries with coconut whipped cream (found it at TJs - low carb so I'm going to see what it's like). Rare Lois R Posted May 20, 2020 #440 Share Posted May 20, 2020 I love shrimp! But I don't do spicy dressings...........but I would make the rest of it and leave the dressing off.🙂 I don't live close enough to TJ's to make it worth the trip. Only difference was I made an Asian ginger (non spicy) dressing & didn’t have whipped cream on my berries...too funny

I've alternated with the dressing on this salad - last week it was just a rose wine vinaigrette dressing. This week, spicy peanut. Next week?? I just threw out TJ's because their spices tend to be a little less than the "commercial" ones. Oh - the coconut whip cream was yummy!!! It's in a can like Ready Whip in the dairy section. I think today's dinner is going to be my Mediterranean bean salad again. Quick and easy - cucumber, white beans, onion, tomato, feta cheese and a red wine vinaigrette. I picked up some frozen organic mango pieces, so I may make a dessert "smoothie" with coconut water and mango blended together.

Sharon Hi Sharon, I haven't been to their store... I do like their clothes, but pricey! The masks are super comfortable by the way, I'm going to order a second pack today... if you had told me in January that the only fashion purchases I would make for the next few month would be two pairs of sweatpants & masks I wouldn't have believed it lol :)

purduemom1 Posted May 20, 2020 #445 Share Posted May 20, 2020 Well, Kat, I couldn’t resist trying the coconut whipped cream and will put it on the strawberries I bought. I’m glad you mentioned the lemon pepper. My TJ has been out for awhile but I checked and sure enough there it was.....finally! Today i I put on a top I haven’t worn since last summer and have decided it needs to be relegated to the “old clothes” category. Oh, wait, those are the ones I have been wearing! DH washed windows and screens and I cleaned all the shutters and blinds. Then I vacuumed all the lamp shades-have now decided that we have too many lamps. Dinner will be sort of a taco style salad with mixed baby greens, chopped cucumbers, tomatoes and ground turkey breast cooked with taco seasonings. Will add some Balsamic dressing and some tortilla chips to keep DH happy. Then strawberries with the coconut whipped cream foe dessert. Whew, happy to have it figured out-that is usually a problem for me. Sharon
Rare Lois R Posted May 20, 2020 #446 Share Posted May 20, 2020 Hi girls, Sharon, The tacos sound good.......too bad I need to stay away from the chips these days. I have a long time girlfriend who gave me a new fish recipe---I made it tonight. It was delicious. I sliced up a vidalia onion...(those are the sweet ones)......I only used 1/2. And had got a bag of mini sweet peppers..... no green ones but orange, yellow and red..and some fresh mushrooms with fresh lemons and some minced garlic. I mixed them all up and put them in a small baking pan.......i cut the lemons in 1/2 (I used 2) for 2 pieces of fish. I squeezed all the juice out and left the lemons with the veggies.........I put the fish on top and baked it for about 15-18 minutes on 400............... so very flavorful!!!!!!!!!!!
