CANDYAPPLE Posted April 1, 2020 #1552 Share Posted April 1, 2020 (edited) Both ships are together north of Cuba. RTDM8 (Rotterdam tender) is in the water doing 1.5 knots Zaandam is stopped Edited April 1, 2020 by CANDYAPPLE
Cruising Is Bliss Posted April 1, 2020 #1553 Share Posted April 1, 2020 (edited) I've no idea what this means but Zaandam & Rotterdam are both nearly stopped. Moving at just 0.2 knots and very close together. Keeping options open on where they go? I zoomed out the second image to show their location off Cuba. The blue blob says Zaandam but it's both ships too close together to resolve into separate ships. clojacks Posted April 1, 2020 #1554 Share Posted April 1, 2020 (edited) Both ships are off the NW coast of Cuba with a tender in the water between them. (at least 3 of us must have seen this at the same time) Edited April 1, 2020 by clojacks
Petunia1950 Posted April 1, 2020 #1555 Share Posted April 1, 2020 (edited) I don't know what this means, but the Marine Traffic website is showing Zaandam stopped, Rotterdam moving, and a Rotterdam tender between the two. Just west of Cuba: Edited April 1, 2020 by Petunia1950

They pulled out because of too many problems with fog and when the subsidy from Houston to use it ran out. So it is not being used for cruise ships at this time. It is between La Porte and Kemah. I believe that the parking lot is used to hold new cars being shipped into the state. We sailed with NCL from there in 2006 near La Porte My brother lived in La Porte at the time it was not far from him Anyway too bad some other Country would not let the ship dock & let the non Americans off

Cruising Is Bliss Posted April 1, 2020 #1558 Share Posted April 1, 2020 (edited) Rotterdam is moving now east-ish at 6.8 knots. And a couple of minutes later Zaandam is on the move too at 4.2 knots. Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted April 1, 2020 #1559 Share Posted April 1, 2020 This made me think of that old commercial, "Pardon me, but do you have any Grey Poupon?" Sorry to be irreverent, but it is April Fool's Day. Let's hope this is a simple transfer of something that Zaandam needs and Rotterdam is supplying. 7
clojacks Posted April 1, 2020 #1560 Share Posted April 1, 2020 If you click on each ship, you’ll see that the info capture was grabbed at different times. Might be why the tender looks like it is still in the water with the ships moving away.
Rare Hlitner Posted April 1, 2020 #1561 Share Posted April 1, 2020 Wouldn't it be am amazing public relations coup if Cuba agreed to accept the sickest passengers off the Zaandam? Hank
Rare LHT28 Posted April 1, 2020 #1562 Share Posted April 1, 2020 maybe transferring sick people back to Zaandam Too bad they are not tendering the Non Americans to Cuba so they can fly home from there Marine Traffic has Zaandam destination Cuba
rabidstoat Posted April 1, 2020 #1563 Share Posted April 1, 2020 Would Jacksonville work as a port? I think south Florida is (currently) the hot spot and resource constrained, maybe Jacksonville up north would be more palatable?

Yes, possibly an April fools joke to those of us watching and waiting on CC. Possiblly, medicine or medical equipment needed to be transferred between ships. You can still spread it!. I know we need to help these people but I understand Florida.Easy for me to talk from my comfortable home ! I wish all the best of luck! Given the number of Covid19 cases in South Florida, I’d suspect the healthy looking cruise passengers are no more likely to have the virus than the rest of the people at the Fort Lauderdale or Miami airports. doone Posted April 1, 2020 #1569 Share Posted April 1, 2020 This is all so sad, no matter the reason they sailed March 7th, they need help now. I am praying a port steps up and rescues these poor people.....

Max2003 Posted April 1, 2020 #1572 Share Posted April 1, 2020 Interesting stop. They are about 100NM from Havana. We will know if there might be something happening there in about 6 hours. They seem to be definitely committing to Florida.
Babr Posted April 1, 2020 #1573 Share Posted April 1, 2020 How is this different from the incident with the Grand Princess? Why isn’t there a federal response to get these people safely treated, quarantined, or transported? Many are not American. Wouldn’t that require coordination with other national governments.
