Zaandam and Rotterdam Situation (merged topics starting March 22, 2020)

Following this closely from the UK and wishing both ships, safe docking soon.

Both ships are together north of Cuba.  RTDM8 (Rotterdam tender) is in the water doing 1.5 knots

 

Zaandam is stopped

I've no idea what this means but Zaandam & Rotterdam are both nearly stopped. Moving at just 0.2 knots and very close together. Keeping options open on where they go?

 

I zoomed out the second image to show their location off Cuba. The blue blob says Zaandam but it's both ships too close together to resolve into separate ships.

Both ships are off the NW coast of Cuba with a tender in the water between them.

 

 

(at least 3 of us must have seen this at the same time)

I don't know what this means, but the Marine Traffic website is showing Zaandam stopped, Rotterdam moving, and a Rotterdam tender between the two.  Just west of Cuba:

Rotterdam is moving now east-ish at 6.8 knots. And a couple of minutes later Zaandam is on the move too at 4.2 knots.

This made me think of that old commercial, "Pardon me, but do you have any Grey Poupon?" Sorry to be irreverent, but it is April Fool's Day.

 

Let's hope this is a simple transfer of something that Zaandam needs and Rotterdam is supplying.

If you click on each ship, you’ll see that the info capture was grabbed at different times.  Might be why the tender looks like it is still in the water with the ships moving away.

Wouldn't it be am amazing public relations coup if Cuba agreed to accept the sickest passengers off the Zaandam?

Would Jacksonville work as a port? I think south Florida is (currently) the hot spot and resource constrained, maybe Jacksonville up north would be more palatable?

and make that 5, I was checking cruisemapper and saw both ships were as one.

Yes, possibly an April fools joke to those of us watching and waiting on CC.

Possiblly, medicine or medical equipment needed to be transferred between ships.

They're really moving now. Zaandam at 17 knots. Rotterdam in the lead pulling away at 19.5 knots.

Given the number of Covid19 cases in South Florida, I’d suspect the healthy looking cruise passengers are no more likely to have the virus than the rest of the people at the Fort Lauderdale or Miami airports.

Interesting stop.  They are about 100NM from Havana.   We will know if there might be something happening there in about 6 hours.   They seem to be definitely committing to Florida.

How is this different from the incident with the Grand Princess? Why isn’t there a federal response to get these people safely treated, quarantined, or transported? Many are not American. Wouldn’t that require coordination with other national governments.

Maybe the Canadians  will get off in Cuba  & then the  Americans can  float around  near FLL
