Rare aussielozzie18 Posted November 9, 2022 #77426 Share Posted November 9, 2022 (edited) For dinner, we headed into town to the Bowling Club as recommended by the owner. The Club has a lovely outlook over Lake Jindabyne and offer good size meals and drinks at reasonable prices (without the “Jindy tax” - inflated prices for the tourists/out of Towners). No walking around the lake after dinner or playing in the waters edge playgrounds for patrons with families due to the rising lake levels. The caravan park on the lake’s edge was also closed due to flooding. Edited November 9, 2022 by aussielozzie18
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted November 9, 2022 #77427 Share Posted November 9, 2022 After dinner, DS lit the fire and after thanking him (again) for choosing & booking such superb accommodation, we all crashed. In the morning, I woke up early expecting to see mobs of kangaroos outside our door but instead later as I was getting snacks ready for our walk, I saw these guys casually stroll past our cottage.

DS is the driver, DD is the navigator and I’m chilling in the back, occasionally passing over snacks. That sounds like an ideal setup! I'm a little bummed, my DS and his GF were supposed to go B2B with me on Allure in January, but they decided to do the financially responsible thing and save their money. While I'm proud of him for making a smart money move, I'm disappointed to not be sailing with him. We haven't cruised together since he went into the Army in 2018, and this was going to be his big celebration after completing his contract and getting out of the Army. He loves cruising almost as much as I do. Oh well, I've got the rest of his life to cruise with him! And I'll still get to meet @Ozark_Kid and do a combined live thread on one of those sailings (heck if I can remember which one, though.... Jan 22?). 6

Rare aussielozzie18 Posted November 9, 2022 #77432 Share Posted November 9, 2022 Now, hiking in Kosciusko National Park is usually in late November onwards but we were restricted with dates so we are here a bit early in the season BUT we weren’t expecting such a heavy dump of snow here a week or so ago, in November. As a result, we needed to go to the Tourist info/NPWS info centre to get current info on what trails are actually open and suitable for us to do. So whilst the “kids” got the info for the lovely staff member, I had a good wander of their large gift shop. Lots of beautiful framed prints from the NP including the wombat in the snow photo we have hanging in our family room. The photographer is based not far from here in Cooma. After seeing the emu family this morning, I couldn’t resist buying this magnet. 8

Rare aussielozzie18 Posted November 9, 2022 #77438 Share Posted November 9, 2022 The lady recommended a walk in the NP that none of us had come across in our research. She said it was very picturesque, grade 3 and likely to be muddy on the lower levels and windy at the very top - Mud - no probs for the kids who have waterproof hiking shoes. I only have sneakers but I’ve done so many muddy sections of this years walks I wasn’t worried. NP/ski fields are 40 mins from our accommodation. Nice drive. Lovely to see the snow on the mountain tops on the way in. Day was glorious weather. Car temp said 15c. On the hike it felt like 25c.

He sells a similar one on his website, but last time I looked his prints were priced in some form of cryptocurrency, which I don't understand.

The problem for me is, I take daily anti-anxiety medication so there’s not much I can take OTC to relieve the cold symptoms. Tylenol, nasal spray and LOTS of fluids - although not necessarily the fluids I want 😉. 9
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted November 10, 2022 #77442 Share Posted November 10, 2022 Sorry, cc is being super glitchy plus I’m on 4G. Will reply later to any responses and catch up on everyone’s posts. I’ll just wrap up yesterday’s walk which was glorious: This snowbank went upwards so wearing only sneakers, DS held my hand tightly on the way back down so I didn’t slip. At the end of the walk were lots rocks. The National Parks info lady here told us to make sure we continued on here through the rocks. DS decided to climb one…note the neat slice at the top of the boulder on the left… Views were stunning as promised We then found a spot next to the boulders on the soft grass to relax and have muesli bars etc before heading back down. This spot gave me “Picnic at Hanging Rock” vibes…@seadog have you seen this Australian film? Very atmospheric and great use of a particular type of music (no drums though). Had a helicopter fly above us on our way back down. Not sure if scenic or rescue. Lots of streams and the water was crystal clear and icy cold. Thoroughly enjoyed this walk. Thats a wrap for our roadtrip so far. DS has his good camera with long lenses for this trip so hopefully I’ll post some more photos on our return. 17

1ANGELCAT Posted November 10, 2022 #77449 Share Posted November 10, 2022 I know all the good people on this thread will appreciate a happy ending to what could have been a tragedy. MS Rotterdam just rescued 14 people in a makeshift raft off the coast of Cuba. All souls accounted for per report from pax onboard. Well done to the crew and all involved.❤️

That is an interesting thing to make! Much appreciated. We are in Alameda County. There are at least 3 official ballot drop boxes within 15 minutes of where I live. My decision on which one to use is based on the ease of nearby parking. 😊
