Roger88 Posted April 27, 2020 #26 Share Posted April 27, 2020 Well, the schedule looks very promising. I hope that there wont be any cancellations now. I also wonder how will they react in case of another 100 "no sail" order.. the dates are so close to each other, they will have to move them all. In any case, I am glad that you guys are keeping us updated on the info. This is what I love cruise critic for, you guys are great!

Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted April 28, 2020 Author #29 Share Posted April 28, 2020 I have updated the list at the top of this thread per the updated Cruise Critic article [4-28-20] at https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/5206/ The trend seems to be a coalescence around July 1 to restart operations. Let's hope that holds!
Rare Roz Posted April 28, 2020 #30 Share Posted April 28, 2020 Thanks for the link. Yes, it does look like July 1 is the magic date for river cruise lines.

Rare notamermaid Posted May 1, 2020 #32 Share Posted May 1, 2020 @Host Jazzbeau Thank you for your work. I have found it difficult to find any strategies by river cruise lines as regards how they will actually get back into a routine for river cruising, in either English or German language. Let's face it, we will certainly not suddenly jump onto a boat and pretend nothing has happened. So while this is not a well-known cruise line on the English-speaking market, I think this article in German is interesting for its details, also cancellation policies and insurance. Nicko cruises has been around on the German market for many years. I hope translation programs do a satisfactory job: https://www.touristik-aktuell.de/nachrichten/kreuzfahrten/news/datum/2020/04/20/nicko-cruises-laukamps-neustart-plan/ In essence: they are hopeful they can manage to implement the rules of social distancing and enhanced hygiene. Due to the restrictions on travel having been extended, they have postponed the relaunch of their operations from 30 April to 1 June. notamermaid
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted May 1, 2020 Author #33 Share Posted May 1, 2020 I have updated the list at the top of this thread per the updated Cruise Critic article [5-1-20] at https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/5206/ No new bad news. I did update a few lines that looked too optimistic, and found that their websites have been updated to be a bit more realistic. [Still wonder what A-ROSA think they can do on May 11, but there it is right on their website...]
NavyCruiser Posted May 2, 2020 #34 Share Posted May 2, 2020 Thanks for the updates. We should also keep updated on when major airlines will allow flights from N Amer to Europe. For our Late July cruise, we're keeping an eye on Air France's air route from Houston to Paris...

This is what we are worried about. We have a July 20 Ama from Basel. Our Swiss Air flight is July 13. Still not sure if we want to cruise yet
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted May 2, 2020 Author #37 Share Posted May 2, 2020 This crisis does upend some previous thinking about how to book travel. I have almost always booked directly with the airlines, in order to book the flights, class and seats I want. But if I had booked air through the cruise line, then they would have to accommodate me if either one of those components was unavailable.
cruisr Posted May 2, 2020 #38 Share Posted May 2, 2020 France just extended its Lockdown until July 24. Anyone coming in to the country must go to mandatory 14 day quarantine. Say Goodbye to River cruises that touch France until after 7/24/20. I am sure the river cruise lines effected will update soon.
Rare notamermaid Posted May 3, 2020 #39 Share Posted May 3, 2020 Of minor importance, but as they also serve the English-speaking market, here is the info from Viva Cruises' website: https://www.viva-*****/en/information-coronavirus.htm notamermaid

Its just marketing hype as admitted today by Carnival and their overly ambitious press release claiming they will be restarting 1 July. NCL is today suggesting they may not survive. The virus is NOT under control in any sense. Scientists have identified 14 strains of coronavirus with the most virulent being NOT the one from Wuhan, rather the one that hit New York coming from Italy. The virus appears to be mutating. People are dying and a vaccine, if even possible, is a long way off. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/health-news/a-mutant-coronavirus-has-emerged-even-more-contagious-than-the-original-study-says/ar-BB13CHNP

We had a 15-day river cruise through France scheduled for June with Uniworld. Booked air separately. American Airlines refunded full airfare two weeks after filing the claim. Uniworld will not and keeps kicking the can with offers of FCC. If I can't cruise now with CLIA and CDC health restrictions, I surely won't be able to cruise in a year. FCC is useless. Sorry, that's not how Cruise Critic works. People can post what they want, unless it violates the guidelines. People can also choose which threads to read. This one should be pretty easy to avoid if it doesn't interest you. 4
