Cruise line meeting with CDC is Today

It seems likely that to resume cruises July 24th, the CDC would have to see plans from the cruise industry on what steps will be taken to control the virus and what would happen in the event of an outbreak onboard. Presumably there will be considerable back and forth between the two parties before the CDC agrees to the plan, which will take a while. I hope that the fact that this meeting is purportedly regard crew reparations doesn't mean they aren't yet talking about the plans for cruise resumption. Time is running short if they want to resume in August.

Certainly, the fact that they are just getting ready to discuss crew repatriation (which is pretty sad),  does not speak well for future stuff.  Any information we hear about from this get together will speak volumes on where they are at.

Batten down the hatches, the meeting to discuss plans with the CDC is today.

Also as of today June 11th, 2020

Although Carnival Cruise Line announced last month that they’d begin sailing on a limited number of ships starting August 1, the company now says that was a mistake.

It is a Wells Fargo Analyst who said they won't be discussing.

Did the agent say that it will not be discussed or that the call was primarily to discuss crew repatriation?

True, this was from a already released interview with Arnold Donald.  Not trying to go down a rabbit hole on the topic, but even after the interview, Carnival has been taking reservations and even upgrading people for cruises on those sailings.

I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but IMO it's looking like 2020 is going to see very limited cruises, if any at all.

Longest time without a booking for us since we started cruising in 2013 (yep, we're just newbies compared to most on here).

Still waiting for deposits back from cancelled MSC family cruise booked for July.  Maybe when that finally gets here, I'll put down a deposit for spring of 2022.

Wells Fargo Analyst Tim Conder, in a recent note to investors, confirmed the meeting is scheduled but added that he does not believe it "will address the current suspension of sailings in U.S. waters through July 24," but instead focus on crew repatriation.

I am thinking the CDC will be stubborn and not allow cruising to resume on August 1st no matter the state of affairs!!  This is about politics and the cruise industry and everyone else be damned 😞

I am a pretty harsh critic of the CDC, they do have a job to do.  That said, their interaction with the industry is just not good.  I would love to hear what goes on in these meetings.  If the CDC will prevent sailings in 2020, they should step up tp the plate now.

I see a cloud mushrooming on the horizon😬😧.....

Whatever the outcome of the meeting and whether or not it affects CARNIVAL'S resumption of cruising, in August or otherwise, please keep this respectful, on topic...the usual mumbo jumbo. Not going to have another Covid death statistics, states reopening, mask debating free for all. It's frustrating uncharted waters but so this infighting isn't productive.

Hope all of you are well !

I think the CDC will just provide a list of requirements to cruise lines that need to be met to resume cruising and leave it up to the individual cruise lines as to how they meet them. The plans will likely need to be approved by CDC, but I don't see a lot of negotiations going on.

To play devil's advocate , what the CDC is doing very well might not be playing fair. However are the cruise lines playing fair still taking money from pax and not giving cash refunds back? Taking 90 days or longer.

Big business is all about what is best for them, just like the government really doesn't give a rats ass or work for the people.

It's a vicious circle and we are all pawns in their games.

I fear the outcome of this will be an extension of the witch hunt by the CDC.  They can't even keep their own 'guidance' consistent.  They labeled the cruise industry as the boogy man and I don't see them admitting a over reaction and walking that back.  It will be about ego in the end.

Not that I agree with this but I can easily see the CDC saying you can’t compare cruise ships with their limited space to theme parks.

Vegas been open for about a week. If Vegas can successfully reopen, so can a casino at sea like the cruise ships

Given everything that has gone on in the last few weeks,  casino's opening, states opening,  Theme parks are opening, including universal and Disney slated to open next month, the protests, there is absolutely no reason not to open up the cruise lines.  Planes are still flying, hotels are open, food places are now open.  Add some cleaning,  remove the buffet or have the crew serve and limit capacity and let's roll.

It wasn't CDC that made cruise ships a scapegoat.

Cruise lines can change all home ports to outside the US and nullify the CDC power grab

It would not only be home ports that would need to change, all US ports, even as ports of call would need to be eliminated.

Drastic measure for sure.  Doubt that is in the option list at least now.
