Here's my experience w/ Princess so far. I paid for 2 cruises one in 2019, another one 2022 summer Alaska. For last Summer 2022, I lost $1,300 in casino. In exchange I receive enough offers for:

1. 2023 - I am booked for 4 cruises (including 12 days British Isle and 11 days new year Caribbean cruise) where I paid $5,037 for the market price of $15,441.04.

2. 2024 - I am also booked for 4 cruises (Mediterranean 21 days, and 35 days Japan) for $4,035 with market price $24,969.

Mind that there are 3 of us in one room. Majority of the cost went to the 3rd person because the first 2 occupants are free. So if there is only one or two of you, your cost will be even cheaper. I also upgraded all my rooms for 2023.

I have better offers with Holland despite I only sailed with them one time. But I did get lucky and walked off the ship with $1,050 winning plus all my specialty restaurants meal (5 times for 3 people) were reimbursed. There was also unlimited drink available when I was in Casino which I didn't use since I don't drink alcohol.  With their offers afterward, I am booked for 2 Norway Fjord cruise and 1 Alaska cruise that cost me $4,235 with market price $17,908. All for 2023 summer.

I have not received any interesting offers from Holland since, but I expected that it will show up after I finish my first Fjord cruise in summer.

Does playing in Casino pay off? Yes, if you know what you are doing. As you can see, I meticulously track my money going in/out and how much I pay. I only play slots and I very rarely bet more than $3 a hand.

Having said that, I agree with others that point out if you are not used to gaming the system with land-based casino (which tend to be more generous), I would not advise starting with cruise casino.

Check out this post for another perspective https://www.tipsfortravellers.com/how-to-gamble-on-a-cruise-to-unlock-perks/

regarding all of the discounts, are those firm even if you never play a dime in the casino again? ive heard of some clawback from land casinos if you dont play enough.

also i assume the 1300 you said you lost was literally 1300 of your money, not what was won then lost. but wanted to confirm. if one could just toss in 13 one hundred dollar bills and bet max on some large denomination machines it seems like a good way to get nice discounts

As far as the discounts, your guess is as good as mine. That's why I started the post with a preface that I received all the offers based on one trip only. There is also post covid need to fill up the ship to consider. Having said that, each offer (they sent through email or snail mail) are valid for 3 trips, but the free play only for one. For example if you are sent an offer of free inside stateroom + $100 freeplay, you can use the free inside stateroom for 3 different sailing, but you will only get the $100 freeplay for the first one. So, if I have more time, I would have been in ship a lot more often since I received at least 10 offers from Princess alone.

As for clawback, I doubt they will do that prior to your journey. Now, if I go on all those cruises and I don't play at all, then yes. They will definitely cut down the amount of their offer. Having said that, I don't have to play at all the cruises either, especially since European cruises tend to be very port heavy. My budget is always not to exceed whatever the market price different.

There is also the "standard" discount from simply being casino player in Holland America. I believe it's $200 per person for the first 2 occupant. It is offered randomly depends on ship availability.

Last, yes the $1300 is basically what shown on my room statement. It's the amount of money I put inside the machine, not the total play. Your comp is actually based on how much money you play, not how much money you put in. That's why they don't care whether you win or loose, you will still get the comp if your play is high enough. Their purpose is not to make you loose because the more time you spend on casino, the higher the chance you will loose. They don't have to make extra effort on that, it's built into the system.

  • 2 months later...

I have gotten down to only One cruise later this year, so its time to book again.

I have been putting off this chore for months, and watching offer after offer expire.

So I bit the bullet to try booking with a Princess cruise vacation planner.

Heres my experience booking a Casino COMP cruise with new CVP….

I had actually spoken with her months ago, but she was unable at that time, to book for me.
Contacted her recently, and Yes a Cvp CAN book your Comp cruises now.

(I have had No experience with Discount casino cruises)
I sent CVP an email with all the details of cruise we wanted to book.
Date, Ship, Casino offer Campaign code, etc.
I even had a Cabin# picked out that was showing available.

Cvp first booked FOR me, and sent me an email Confirmation.
But I noticed it was for a Guarantee cabin, and Not the cabin# I wanted?
Also, her cost was almost $200 more than I saw online.😲
So we played telephone tag, but what ended up happening….

I went online to book thru my Emailed casino Offer, and booked cruise myself, including picking a Cabin. It was Not easy because when it asked me to Log in to complete info?   It would Not let me complete it, or save it?
I had to Back Out of booking (after I had logged in).
Once I went back in?  My info was IN the registration, I was able to SAVE it, and go to Second Guest registration.  (Good ole Princess website🤦‍♂️)

Once the online Offer booking was completed, I got to the end, where it said Pay now, or Hold.
Like I said, my Pay Now amount was Less than Cvp.
So I hit HOLD.

Called her back immediately.
She was then able to complete booking, and emailed me the New Confirmation#.
I paid the Lower online cost, and got the Cabin I wanted!🤩

then, I wanted to make sure our Princess Plus Comp offer perks were added to the Rez?

Yes, it was.

I confirmed by looking at (Luggage) Travel Summary on my Princess account.
All the Plus perks were added separately for each of us.

But, my Freeplay was Not listed?
So I will need to call back about that…. so Check your Travel Summary and Print it.

Make sure its all there.

Just wanted to let you know my experience with a new CVP.

Its a whole lot better in the long run for me, than going thru the casino Call Center.

Call center was a deal breaker for me.  I had nothing but mistakes & headaches working with them.

Good luck with your bookings!

And remember to SAVE your online Email offers to book them when youre ready.

We had booked an offer.  In the beginning everything showed.  I had a hard copy.  Later my free play disappeared, and I figured it was because you can only get free play once and they mixed up the offers from a previous cruise.  I still had my print out and I was going to use it to get the free play once on board.  When we went to the casino, they showed I had the free play money coming to me and I didn't have to fight anyone.  Keep your print out or take picture of your computer screen with your phone so you have proof

Hi Everyone!

I took my first princess cruise this year in the first week of April. I spent over 4K in the casino and had over 6000 points. At the end of the cruise, I got a return cruise offer. It was the most I've lost on a cruise and I'm still recovering!! I was wondering, how long does it take before I will receive an email with the 3 cruise offers. My email is updated in my account but I never get emails from Princess. I've even checked my spam. Any advice?

We have been on their list for a couple of years, so we get offers all the time.  Just got a new one yesterday by email.

If you just cruised in April, I am surprised that you have not received an email or flyer in the mail.

Did you get your offer on the last day of the cruise based on your activity for that cruise ?

try to check for offers on your account with Princess

login to your account

click on "my account"

on the line that shows how many cruises, how many days click on "onboard credit"

this will show any offers

Hi. Thanks for the reply!

Yes, I received the come-back offer at the end of the cruise because of how much I gambled on that cruise. At the time, I rationalized it because I thought I'd get free cruise offers. When I click on "onboard credit" I see the comeback offer but no other offers.

I have a cruise booked under the comeback offer. Do I have to gamble a lot on that cruise to start getting the emails? I just feel like something is off.

You should be getting the emails, but they may wait until you have used their offer before sending more.  You knows.  We book only casino cruise offers, but the offers are not as good as they were last year.  Before we were getting free balcony, now just inside, before the plus package included, now no plus, and the free play money is less.  We were on 7 cruises last year.  This year we have taken 2 cruises and have one to go.

You didn't mention what your Come back & Play offer was for?

Also, may be too soon to get offers from Princess casinos.... If you don't receive anything

in the near future?  Call casino# and Ask if any are listed?  There could always be an

issue with your email.  I've had that happen & took forever to fix, should have been simple.

A relative of mine played about your denom and it took a few months to receive offers, but shes been averaging Balcony & $400 FP offers since.

However, Not the Plus perks.

I have 5-6 offers to book in my batch, but I continue to Only book those that include Plus perks!

I get those about 50% of the time now, instead of 100%.

It looks as though Princess wants us to Forget our offers used to include Plus ?

YMMV but I don't plan to give in.  We Want Our Plus Perks Included.

Hi!! Thanks for the response. My offer was for an inside cabin with princess plus. $150 casino. I gambled a lot after I received the offer too. I liked princess and was hoping I had "invested" enough.

That is a pretty common offer that we generally ignore unless we are going on a cruise anyway. We got a bounce back offer after our cruise a few weeks ago for free balcony and $600 free play person.  There are some limits on it so I will need to do some negotiations with casino group  (offers received on leaving ship cannot be handled by our CVP)

You will be happy to know, my new CVP was also able to book my Come back & Play offer (from the ship) a couple days ago.   It was actually a better offer (included Plus perks)  than some other offers I've gotten lately from Princess casino dept.

For anyone who doesn't have a CVP (Cruise Vacation Planner) yet?

You can request one by calling 1-800-901-1172 🤩

The offer we got from the ship is also better than we have been getting lately in that it is a free balcony not inside and $600 free play per person but it can’t be even looked at until 20 days after the cruise and has a very tight window so I will need to try and do some negotiating with casino group

Hi All!!

Wow. I didn't realize that negotiating is even a possibility. I really appreciate you sharing. So, I booked a cruise from the comeback offer. Mine was an inside with only $150 but with PP. I'm wondering what I need to do to get another offer - hopefully a balcony. Since your comeback offer was better than the emails, maybe that should be my focus. I don't cruise until August but I know I have at least 5000-6000 points from the last cruise and I know I spent 4k last time. Won't be able to spend anything close to that. Any thoughts?

We pay the difference between our free level and a full suite. All full suites cost the same in that scenario. I am going to try and negotiate the date. My come back offer says must sail by January 14 and the cruise we want is January 23. We already have cruises in October and in April so hsve to try and position this one

your points is for that cruise only and your offer come back and play offer at the end of the cruise is based on that cruise.  For the amount of points you should be getting good email and U.S mailers,  we ususally got a free balcony, plus and free play, but now that gets yu free inside, no plus and free play,

Agree with Roxie.  Think I mentioned this earlier, my relative who earns around 7,000 points on

last cruise.... now gets offers from Princess casino for balcony & $400 freeplay.  No plus perks

like before.

I average alot more than that, so getting Plus about half of the time now.

When I DO get a casino offer that includes all the bells & whistles?  Those are the ones I book.

The others expire.

Also, Come back & Play offers.... I've been able to book those a couple days after your cruise ends.

Haven't had a 20 day wait like mentioned above.

I also haven't had any luck booking a cruise After the book by, or sail by dates.

They have been pretty strict about that.

Gaming WITH slot machines or gaming the machines?  You can do the former but NOT the latter. All the information I could find (and I once asked Michael Shakelford, the Wizard of Odds himself) is that the regulation of cruise slot machines is most likely by the country the ship is flagged in.  And many of those countries have little or no regulation.  So the payout percentages are anyone’s guess.   Play for fun and play for no more than you can afford.  And don’t chase comps!  Those are my recommendations.

Agree with Muggo11. In general, the slot are tighter. Sometimes you might get lucky, but most often not. I play to get the most points so I bet smallish ($1 - $2) and I make sure to round up my points before moving to next machine. My aim is to turnover my money at least 10x, if not winning. Majority of times, it's only 4 to 6 times.

Right on what you said muggo.  I'm not sure if the new poster above (from united states lol)  is serious or not?🤔

As for me, theres No way to know what the hold is on slots.  I rarely ever play slots, especially on ships.

But you CAN know paytables if you are a Video poker player, its listed on the machine.

I just learned that CLIA, the cruise line industry association requires its members to adhere to gambling regs in either Nevada, New Jersey or England.  They require regular audits of payback percentages AND do unannounced audits.  And, yes, video poker pay-tables tell me what I need to know (I’m a table-game and VP player with a few hundred dollars  ritually sacrificed to Buffaloes and Golden Drums).

Anyone have try this?

YOUR LOYALTY AND OFFERS FROM OTHER CASINOS COULD EARN YOU A FREE CRUISE

You may be eligible for great deals, including FREE* or discounted cruises, drinks included and other benefits – when you submit a request. Simply complete this form and an agent will review your request and if eligible, make you an offer!

I'm wondering Which casinos are they targeting?  Which markets?

My guess they are looking at What level your card is..... Higher level, means higher stakes.

If you have entry level card, wouldn't be much.

then again, No I haven't tried it.  I think they need to add more details.

If anyone has? It would be interesting to hear the outcome.
