Just read the news that Captain Nick Nash has been appointed the Commodore of the Princess fleet.

Congratulations to him on his promotion.

Congratulations, Commodore Nash.  A promotion well deserved!  We've enjoyed sailing with you on several cruises.  Our favorite was the 49 days South America adventure in 2019.

I had to search to find out about Captain Nick Nash. I have not been on a cruise when he was the captain.

Excuse my ignorance but what does a Commodore do that is different to a captain.

The commodore is the captain of the whole fleet.

I remember the first time my wife and I sailed with Captain Nash. We talked for a few minutes. Later I said to my wife I like him he’s a really nice guy.

On board it's the same. Probably some HQ responsibilities and additional pay.
