By charging the spending to the room account, isn’t that like taking a cash advance on the credit card? The bank would start charging interest immediately, wouldn’t they? I’d like to avoid that.

I've charged to my room before and not been charged until my onboard account is settled at the end of the cruise. Its treated just like any other deficit

With the Casino Gift Credits, would it make a difference if I’m playing slots (no chips to exchange)?

Both answers are no.

Anything charged to your on board account is posted to your on board account and netted against OBC, if any. It's no different than purchasing a beverage, a ship tour, or something in one of the shops. Princess does not charge interest on daily account balances. On your final disembarkation day your net balance is charged to the credit card you registered with Princess for the cruise. That is the day the bank first sees the charge. Your bank will then bill you in their normal way.

Casino gift credits can be used for both table games and slots. Just have the cashier load the credits into your casino account. You can cash out after any play. On the final evening of the cruise there is a cash out deadline. If you do not cash out by that time you lose your money. You can also provide your medallion at any table game and ask them for the amount of chips you wish to purchase. If you have a balance in your casino account your purchase will net against that balance.

No, not a cash advance.  At the end of the voyage, Princess simply charges the net amount owing and the bank/CC company have no idea what you spent the $$ on.  If playing slots, the $ balance is held in a casino account which must be cleared to $0 on final night of the voyage.  That is assuming you have funds left (I hope so).  What you do is just cash out at the casino window.  You can take the cash to CSD and deposit it into your on-board account.

CSD = Customer Service Desk (Purser's Dept/Desk)

Another question to tag on thread.

if doing a Australia/NZ cruise, what currency is used in Casino?

If Australian $ then this sounds like a good way to get local currency while in Australia ports but maybe not good for getting NZ $?

Thanks

If on board currency is Aus$ then casino currency is Aus$. Some sailings from Australian ports on board currency is US$. Check in advance. I never heard of on board currency in NZ$.

Is it a percent off offer or free cabin?

If a percent off deal, you can do the math yourself.  The categories have different discounts by region and category and those should be identified in the offer mailer.  Simply apply that discount to the fare and that's what you should pay.  Sometimes you can see the discounted fare if you do a mock booking.  You would need to log into Princess.com, then launch the link to available cruises from the email.  When you get to the last screen that lists the total owed, it should show the discounted fare.  Your TA should be able to quote and book you for it using the offer code.

If it's a free cabin, TAs can do it but to my knowledge they get no commission on those.  It's best to go through Princess directly.  I've had a couple of these offers during the pandemic and paid a very small amount to upgrade from the free interior offered to a mini suite.  The downside of these offers is that you have to pay everything upfront, including flexible EZair if you choose to do that.  But it's an awesome deal.

Thanks

I had the same problem with a recent offer and I do log in first before launching the email link.  I was always able to see the discounted rates at the booking step but I tried a few cruises a couple of days ago and nothing changed.  My TA is able to see the discounted rates when she inputs the CASINO code and I'm sure a Princess rep could see them too.  Just more fun with the Princess website!

Wonder if anyone is getting offers now. I haven’t seen one since March

I just got through booking the same or similar cruise in 2022-We will be getting off a Panama Canal cruise (also booked through Casino) the day this one departs. One Princess rep tried to upsell me for balcony (I was going to do that anyway) along with Beverage package and trip insurance to be paid up front. In talking with another agent I confirmed that I could pay the insurance and get Bev Package as long as I booked them prior to or around time final payment (shown on Casino Invoice) time. That way we should have a better idea of these cruises will sail. I presently have 11 out there with Princess holding my money 😞

When is your next cruise?

good job Papa Yoda. My wife has success at the machine and I have success at the tables. And then we meet at crooners and celebrate the good life with champagne.

I got one at the beginning of June that expired at the end of the month.  Usually a clue that you have an offer out there is that free play will be shown in the Onboard Credits section of the Personalizer with a status of "Active".  Sometimes I see it there first before I get the mailer or email defining the offer.  But I don't have any shown right now and I still suspect that some of us who had never received offers of free cabins before were given this opportunity to raise revenue for Princess.  And if that is the case I probably won't be seeing more of the freebies, but I've been happy with the discounts and sure hope that continues!

I had a TA canceled that was to precede a Caribbean cruise so I added another Caribbean for December 5. I actually got more than I expected when I called Casino folks. Their line was busy and I got connected to a regular Princess rep. She could not give me the cruise free but was able to take off 35% and get us a deluxe balcony for the price of obstructed view. Also got $250 casino credit.  Now need to get FCCs from previous cruises credited to my account--So far one has been done with two more to go 🙂

I usually get an email and want to book another cruise, but I will wait until I see reduced deposit.

I book as a single then add the other person before final payment, just in case something comes up I  have also had them quote me twice the ugrade fee, so to upgrade to a balcony from a free inside Flll- SF .. Panama Canal, was going to be 1800 per person but I knew that was not right had her change to double occ and it was 1800 total. Much cheaper to upgrade on other cruises,

For a lot of people they bring and start with $500 cash first day and then slowly spin that over the cruise length by grinding the single deck BJ, waiting out a hot craps roll by lingering at a table sometimes for hours to get in at the right time, or waiting for a good roulette sequence.

For many cruise passengers they end up paying the cost of their on board spending and sometimes even the trip it self via casino winnings. If you are struggling to cover your costs and not winning consistently at a casino (which has better odds by the way than land based casinos for reasons i can get into later if desired) then may i suggest investing into some books or articles on casino strategy.

Wow - and you are the guy that was admonishing other posters for "gambling" by purchasing Princess Gift Cards!!  Now you are all for real gambling away for the cruise fare paid.  😲

Well I go on FREE cruises comped by the casino. I haven't had to pay for a cruise since a few years back.

See the real pros and expert cruisers don't pay for things like "run of the mill tourist" oh no, we get VIP service from the casino and get our cruises, drinks and credits COMPED.

I spend my time in the casino grinding away making money, cruising is how I pass time and casino is how I pay the bills.
