A bit of fun - who is up now for double masking on ships!

I'm just pointing out it's not so simple as of yesterdays announcement.

You have a cruise ship of non vaccinated mask wearers: max transmission = 33% but 100% are vulnerable.

You have a cruise ship of vaccinated non mask wearers: max transmission = 33% but 18% are vulnerable.

I know that's over simplified due to variables like some of the 100% could be immune from exposure but you get the point.

Sure man, I get your point for sure.

You're absolutely right.

The one good use of doubling is with a thin neck gaiter; you can bring both top and bottom seams up over your nose and there is still enough cloth to reach your neck. With two layers being naturally spaced apart, it seems to offer even more than double protection without decreasing porosity much. Best for outdoor use because others may be skeptical of it's effectiveness.

As for mask overkill, there can be dire side effects like crashing your car into pedestrians. Some folks cannot get enough air to maintain consciousness, like a 300 pound person climbing stairs. Your glasses can suddenly fog up as you go from an a/c area to hot and humid. A waiter I know is constantly fogged up due to air leakage under the eyes. I was almost lynched by pushing my shopping cart to a big box entry door because I was too fogged up to see the mile long line.

The whole two mask thing has come and gone.

Fauci pushed it then a few days later did the Fauci flip flop and said two mask provide no additional protection.

Not true.  In the first instance he said,  and I quote:

"It just makes common sense that it likely would be more effective,"

In the second instance, he said the reason the CDC has not issued new recommendations is that there is no current data available about the efficacy of doubling up on masks.

That is a huge difference from saying "two mask(s) provide no additional protection."

Can we just vote on a plan! I recommend cessation of any tv immediately; that is imperative in order to continue with the following: everyone get back to work, get our youth and children back to school and socializing. For all those who have been in forced isolation and loneliness, if your desire is to get back to living and not simply breathing, you're loved one can mask up and come and give you a long awaited hug.

I say, let's give it a month. If we survive, great, if we don't, well, by that time at least, the younger generation will hopefully be able to get back to life and I can only hope their psychies are not damaged beyond repair. So, there's the abbreviated version of my plan. And I'm actually not kidding.

The vaccine is to stop you GETTING sick.

Negative. The vaccine builds your body's immunity so that WHEN YOU GET SICK, your antibodies will prevent your infection from getting serious. Take the newest J&J vaccine, WHEN YOU GET SICK, the vaccine will prevent you from experience moderate or severe (hospital) symptoms 66% of the time. And prevent serious symptoms (hospitalization) 88% of the time WHEN YOU GET SICK.  There is no medical evidence yet that shows that WHEN YOU GET SICK after having taken any of the vaccines, that you won't get to a point of being able to spread the virus.

Negative, as I already posted AstraZeneca have published results of a 67% reduction in transmission after vaccination of just one the recommended two shots.
They were able to measure this as their trial was the only one that did weekly swab tests on all the subjects.

No, it means wearing one mask over another. For those wearing paper surgical masks that don't provide a seal around your face, the recommendation is to place a 2-3 layer cloth mask over it to seal and provide additional layers of protection.

It is actually not bad at all. We have vacationed 6 times to hot and tropical locations including 10+ hours of air travel. We use N95 masks exclusively (5 layer masks sealing around the face with around-the-head elastic). They are actually fine in all weather conditions. And are actually better than ear loops on long flights.

A matter of opinion.  I will not wear two masks on a cruise ship.  Nor will I wear one masks on a cruise ship.  If this  policy is in effect when I reach final payment, I will cancel.

67% is far from 100%.

67% reduction in transmission is from 1 shot. The AstraZenica vaccine is 2 shots. Th article doesn't say whether transmission is further reduced after the 2nd shot, but it would make sense that it would be further reduced.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I don't equate "getting the virus" to "getting sick" I mean the vaccine wont stop you getting the virus, but it'll stop it making you legit sick.

If one is good more is better!  The problem is that the whole mask thing is yet additional fear mongering by the powers that be who want to keep the lemming under control.  Mask do absolutely noting at all but make you THINK you are safer when around other people. Some sucker will fall for anything if you tell them a scary enough fairy tale.  .   Stop drinking the Kool Aid people.

43.7% of people quoting statistics are making them up as they go along.

the improper daily use of masks by the public may in fact lead to an increase in infections.

This should be discussed more.

It's easy to say WEAR A MASK but if people don't wear them correct it may be better not to use a mask and do other things better instead. For example keep distance.

I have seen so many examples with people wearing masks incorrect, mostly at TV or on pictures since almost noone wear a mask here. They think they are safe but they aren't.

It is quite clear that it means one mask with two or more layers.

OK!  I suppose we could all wear bubbles over our head, too.  Not going to happen, same with coulee masks.  The law of diminished returns applies here.

Too many statistics from very reliable sources like the CDC and the AMA (who said this..."Public mask wearing is one of the most effective measures we can take to contain the spread..."

I don't "THINK" mask wearing is very effective in stoping the spread, I "KNOW" it does.

Deniers do harm.  So, probably should stop for the saKe of others, as importantly, for the sake of themselves.

You wear a mask to protect yourself.  No need to insist others should wear a mask to protect you too.  One mask, the one on you, is enough.
