We are so different 😁

In Australia you must scan a q code and complete personal information before you enter any bar, restaurant etc so the contact tracers can advise you if you have been exposed.

It has worked really well at locating community spread risks.

I think the whole thing is based on one's conditioning...I couldn't and wouldn't want to live this way. Others are conditioned by PSAs etc to do this so it's not big deal for them. I've not heard of this app in use in Texas and most definitely do not know others that use it. Speaking of tin foil hats, occasionally one still hears about someone that wears two masks while in a car alone and wiping down every piece of goods fom the grocers. To be honest, I find that odd.

I have actually seen someone swimming with a mask while in Cozumel.  And was in line at supermarket self check out waiting for a woman to stop wiping all her packages while bagging.  I seriously wonder at some of these folks.  As an aside, the swimmer with the mask got out, gave us a dirty look as we were maskless 20 ft away from her in the ocean, and proceeded to light a cigarette with the wet mask dangling from her chin.  I so wished we captured this mask theater on film.

Happily signed up for the contact tracing and used the NHS sign in app when we were allowed out last summer. All the better to help combat this thing ASAP.

The way I see it is, if you carry a mobile phone you can already be tracked at some level. If you are on a contracted phone plan, someone has all your details already and all phones have built in gps these days - so why the fear of logging data via a health app?

I would also be happy to record my vaccine status on my phone or carry a card - the sooner we can get back to something resembling normality the better!

200ish days to my cruise - fingers crossed it stays in play and that we both get our second doses in time 😊

Must be an across the pond thing...

The mask in the car is kinda silly but there is a reason for the wiping down of the groceries. Who knows if an infected person touched the item after wiping their nose etc! We did wait until we got home though. Since we have had our shots we do not do that anymore but we still wear a mask, wipe down our cart and use a disinfectant wipe on our hands before we open the car door.

Yep we have Plan B into effect. Driving the Gulf coast from Houston to Hilton Head and back on. a 11 day trip. With stops in N.O, Biloxi, Pensacola, St. Agustine, Hilton Head, Memphis, then back to Houston. First road trip in quite some time.

Beaux Rivage in Biloxi is a favorite of mine.  My son and I go once a month since it is only a couple hours away.  Pensacola has great food and beautiful beaches.

I don't carry my phone with me all the time.  Sometimes it stays home and sometimes it stays in the car.  To get your cell phone data they have to have a warrant here.  I think some states/cities tried the sign in at the restaurant for contact tracing.  There were a lot of Nun Yo Business, John Doe etc. eating out.  We just don't give up our freedoms here that easily.

Hopefully you are referring to you and your family not all Floridians. Thank goodness there are are many Floridians who believe that wearing a mask and getting vaccinated , not congregating in big groups etc is the right thing to do. Protecting the community is not giving up freedoms, it is just common sense and until all follow these simple protocols we will not have anything resembling a normal life again.

Actually I have been fully vaccinated since February.  My husband and my son have both had their first shot as soon as their age range was allowed.  I wear a mask when required.  I have never been a large group kind of person.  Protecting the community does not require me to be joined to my cell phone at all times.

I don’t know your particular vulnerabilities, but CDC did pivot away from wiping down groceries and a lot else unless known close contact.  It is important to stay informed.

I vaguely remember hearing about the app by dept of health last year, maybe spring when everything started to reopen but dont know anyone that used it.  I know we had 0 interest in it.

We have had a normal life for awhile now.  We eat in restaurants once or twice a week, I get my nails done, I see my son often sometimes going to a nearby casino, go to the beach, meet with our friends often, had normal holidays etc.  The kids in our area have been in school since September.  The only not normal part are the masks and not travelling.  We are planning a trip this summer to South Dakota.  I guess it just depends on where you live as to how normal a life you can have.

We do have vulnerabilities but not concerned about advice on that front. It just seemed common sense to wipe down anything others had touched just as I wipe down the door handles and the bathroom flushes and faucets before I touch them when shopping etc. Used to wear gloves but they cause the skin to sweat so much I stopped.

You maybe sensible about these " normal behaviors " but others are not. That is why opening up so soon has caused a new surge in cases. Our Gov has a lot to answer for. He has been great with the vaccines but downright stupid about his rules for everything else.

I guess we will just have to disagree on that point.  I am of the opinion that lockdowns do not work and I have been so happy living in Florida during this time.

Yes, and that was just 2 days ago.  We need to be more patient with people.

And this kind of health/mask shaming is exactly why we we can't have nice things (like cruising) in our country.  Don't be so quick to mock the precautions those across the pond have been adhereing to. At least the UK is getting cruising back this summer.

And don't blame the CDC. Blame the numbers, the science, and the number of covid deniers we have in this country.

I thought the anti-science people were famous for saying "You do you, let me do me?"  Why the constant mocking of people who take more precautions than others? You have no idea why they are taking more precautions. We still wipe down our groceries. But we did that before covid due to the medical health of some of the members of our household, one a 30 year old. There is a reason this flu season has been practically nil.

True.

The giant US anti-mask movement last year may have cost thousands, if not tens of thousands of lives.

But let's all worry about the people who might be too cautious.

You raise a good question here.

I think it's because of the tendency to believe (rightly or wrongly), that if one person says something, there must be 1,000s of others with similar attitudes. If it were just one person, no big deal. If I see a lot of people wearing masks while driving alone in their cars, I deduce that there must be many more than what I've seen. And if there are enough of them taking what I deem to be overly cautious measures, that could translate into public officials making policy based on these overly cautious people, and suddenly I'M THE ONE being told to mask up while alone in my car. I repeatedly hear on these boards that it's the anti-mask crowd who are responsible for Covid deaths. I'm not sure that's true, but it's one of those assumptions that seem reasonable to people, so they take it to be true. Maybe it is, and maybe it isn't. I just think it's a bad idea to base public policy on people's gut reactions or "I just know it has to be."

I think wearing a mask while swimming then smoking is a little ridiculous.  Also wiping groceries while in line is extreme.  If you're that uptight, have them delivered.  If you are in a vulnerable age bracket, have them delivered.  I am tired of getting dirty looks for running outside by myself without a mask.  Im tired of getting dirty looks for riding a bike outside without a mask.  I follow the rules for an establishment with mask and social distancing.  I have been vaccinated.  I worked last year with vulnerable vent dependent adults while my school was closed.  Ive seen 1st hand covid on vents.  I still think it is ridiculous to try to have a sterile environment everywhere in normal life.  And I think the US is doing well considering we are at around 20% vaccinated fully since mid December.

That's what's so bizarre! Fauci & Co have been saying for a long time that you don't need to wear a mask outside. Yet not only do I see people do this every day, along with littering masks on the ground, BTW, there are people who are straight-up belligerent if you aren't masked, too, and 100 yards away.

The stupid, it burns, it burns!!! 🤪

Actually the numbers in The UK aren’t much better than the US. So yes.... I’ll blame the CDC. BTW, how many ports in the UK we’re used for cruising pre-Covid?
