Covid on Adventure

I guess Royal chartered a flight home for the family(families).     That's not cheap!

Royal has a contract with Netjets;  they have access to different size jets in the fleet; so it didn't cost that much to fly them to Miami or FLL

Except for cruises departing Florida where unvaccinated of any age are free to board Royal ships.

I cannot express my disappointment in RCL strongly enough that they have chosen to allow an unlimited amount of un-vaxxed passengers that include adults on their ships from Florida. If other family cruise lines are assuring their passengers a safer cruise vacation with 95/100% vaxxed FROM FLORIDA, there is not reason why Royal could not have assured their passengers the same safety protocols and the same cruise experience that does not require those pesky safety protocols.

And......now come to find out Royal is not really enforcing masking protocols with the un-vaxxed, I'm appalled by this cruise line.

I was on the ship. The link to my live post is below. Satisfied??????

I have clearly documented the lack of compliance as a safety issue in my post-cruise survey.

Thanks, appreciate hearing first hand info.  Not sure why the testy  multiple question ???????  Information is helpful

Don’t know where the passengers were from, but an “exempted” private flight to carry a COVID positive passenger back to the US would not be cheap. In addition, they would have to be transported to their domicile, not dumped at an international airport in Miami or FLL.

Just curious, how do they get home after the flight? Special driver, rental car? Thanks!

According to the article, both people were unvaxxed, and under the age of 16....not eligible for the vax. I R.C. handled the situation very well.

I think it depends on your state. My neice, 13 got the vax with her mothers approval.

I have not seen it in writing, but I’m guessing that the cruise line may have some responsibility to get them to their door in order to contain the infection. It is likely a special driver.

...This timing works out for the industry but it's hard to imagine greater than 7 night cruises happening for awhile....

I’ve thought about that, too...I can imagine 7 nights is the ideal time (for the industry) starting out to see how things go.

Oh, it cost plenty.  A contract w/ NetJets entails buying blocks of flight time.  Flying them to Miami or FLL used a portion of their block time.

Unless you look at it like buying $100 of arcade play for the kids....when they play, "it didn't cost that much".  Arcades and casinos love that line of thinking.

Not sure how many times it has to be said- but the entire cruise can be canceled per Royal if a certain percentage of infected guests threshold is met. We are not afraid of catching Covid, we are afraid that the unvaxxed will acquire and spread Covid and cancel OUR cruise. Sound selfish? Don't care. It isn't....

Do we know the threshold number? I’m curious what the actual number is before I book.

It was 1.5% for the simulated cruises. I don’t know if they are using the same number for cruises with paying passengers.

Taken right off the Royal Caribbean site, not my grammar..................it means what it means.

What it means, if you are sailing out of Florida, Bring your mask, vaccinated and unvaccinated.

I will not be sailing on Royal out of Florida. I will sail on Celebrity or NCL which offer a non mask experience for all passengers (vaxxed and non-vaxxed). I'm vaxxed so I will not mask on a cruise ship. Gotta go with the 95/100% vaxxed cruises.

They are under the age of 16. Those under 16 for now do not need to be vaccinated. Starting in August 12 and up have to be.  Kids are to wear masks while indoors when not eating or drinking.

I thank you and also thank all others who are answering my questions. As I read the thread, I realize that all of my questions have already been answered so I apologize to all who are taking the time to answer me.

There is so much information out there and it gets confusing. Especially because the Adventure sailings are very different than the ones out of Florida. I am sailing on the Adventure on July 10. Just my husband and I. Fully vaccinated as we have to be. I am confident with going. I will say though I would not bring my kids. My kids will not cruise until vaccinated.

That's how all viruses work.  Norovirus, flu, common colds. No big deal if someone catches one of those.

Very true but those viruses are NOT nearly as deadly as the Covid virus. We are all aware of that at this point. Noro will ruin a couple of your days but chances are you won't die of norovirus. Same for the common cold. Flu does kill but does not have the R number like Covid.

Only 600 people who have been vaccinated have died of covid since the CDC started tracking. Out of 150 million people being vaccinated. The large majority are elderly. CDC doesn't report comorbidities for breakthrough case deaths, but I'm sure nearly all had contributing comorbidities.

I’m curious how long after receiving the vaccine did the 600 die? Do you know if the CDC has these stats?

This report on the 100% vaxxed Viking Orion first trip out of Bermuda has interesting reading if you haven't been following it 😉

On another one of the Threads about the Orion, I found Viking's comments interesting.

Omg,I really think some people need a 3 hour explanation of herd immunity. You are safe vaccinated or not at herd immunity. The panic needs to stop.

It can not be spread when 90% on ship are vaccinated. Literally can not happen. Especially asymtomatics.

You can fly people with covid into the country. Just you have a bunch of rules to follow and red tape to navigate through:

https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/interim-guidance-transporting.html

That link goes to a CDC document last reviewed on January 19, 2021.  That link summarized the CDC order which was issued on January 12, 2021. The negative Covid test order that was issued on January 25th explicitly stated that the new order supersedes the January 12 order.  So that link is no longer current information.

On a totally unvaccinated ship with no testing, no vaccines, no natural immunity and no awareness of covid, Diamond Princess didn't even get to 20%.

Better take it up with the CDC since that page is prominently linked on their Quarantine and Isolation page
