Thanks for the Daily, Rich and our Sunday smile 🙂

Great collection of days.  Sun glasses are a must to protect your eyes in the summer and yum on onions.  Love them in salads, fried, however they may come

Love playing Bingo on a BHB.  It’s the only time I play Bingo.  I’d love to be celebrating the day playing on a BHB.

Good morning. Thanks for the Daily.

Good days. I like onions. I always wear sunglasses (sometimes even inside) nowadays, due to my eye issues. Bingo seems like fun, even though I haven't played since I was a youngster.

Interesting quote.

There seems to be a fish/seafood trend in meals. I will eat crab cakes; no bun. I'll pass on the martini and take the Rosé.

I haven't been to today's port. Thanks for the pictures.

It was exciting watching the Edge sail-away yesterday.

Another warm day here, but not as bad as the Pacific northwest. We didn't go below 70F overnight. And humidity is rising.

Sadly the Delta variant is increasing in the US. I read that the J&J vaccine may not be as effective against it as the Moderna and Pfizer, so people who got it may need a booster with one of the mRNA vaccines.

Prayers for the care list and cheers to the celebration list.

Stay safe everyone.

Ugh.  No offense to all you beach and desert people, you can have it!  I don't ever want to see the sun again.  I want our rainy damp cold misty wilting climate back.  It was 104 yesterday and we're bracing for 108 today and 113 tomorrow, give or take, the predictions keep changing slightly.  The store was crowded this morning because it was already 75, but I'm restocked on cold drinks and ice cream, they were out of popsicles, cleaned out, like the stores before a hurricane.

@StLouisCruisers you're all getting our weather according to the news last night

@dfish those crab cakes look amazing

@richwmn last night the 3rd floor of the townhouse was 88 degrees, the first floor foyer was 68, guess where I might be sleeping tonight?  I measured, there's enough room.

@USN59-79 Glad your power wasn't out for very long, if that happens here and I lose my fans, then my last hope is the car, and it's glorious air conditioning!  For tomorrow I heard 110 to 120, seriously!  That's like death valley weather reports.  It's a 1 in 1,000 year weather event.

@Cruising-along Did you put the fans in the windows?  I waited until the temp dropped below 80, I got a good night's sleep at least.  Tonight it won't work though, it's not going to go below 80 until maybe 4 in the morning.

I love crab cakes, sounds perfectly delightful.  It's a great day for sunglasses.  I suppose I should appreciate onions more, I prefer not to eat them but like to cook with them and love the aroma in the house when I do.  I always liked Bingo, but it's so hard to find it now outside of a casino.  Back in the day every catholic church had it, now it's gone.

Thanks to all the listers, thoughts and prayers to all.

So the agenda for today is to stay cool, I'm doing my office work in the morning, before the upper floor becomes unbearable.

Have a great day everybody!

***Don't know what went wrong with the pic upload yesterday, as @fatcat04 mentioned, just picture Mr. Clean lol

I wear these sometimes indoors.  I get visual migraine from certain indoor lighting.

Sunny and dry although we had a brief shower yesterday. But we have cooled. It was about 46F when Bandit and I headed out. High today forecast at about 78. It won't last but it is wonderful just now. I feel for those in the Pacific Northwest .... those temps are brutal. I grew up near Baltimore, no air conditioning and I remember the long, hot, sleepless nights.

I have been to Plymouth by land, not by sea. However it was before I had a digital camera and I did not take many pictures back then. Always thought that "next time......".

As Maryland raised (both Baltimore and the also the Eastern Shore), I love, love, love crab cakes. My Sister makes the best and always tries to have them for me when I visit. Some "sea food" places here claim to sell them but they are mainly filler. Need to head east for a visit.

Everyone take care. Stay as cool as you can.

Susan

Good morning, all! I use onions a lot, but there’s no cooking going on for a couple of days here! Even my morning coffee is cold brew set up the night before. We were setting up a new internet system yesterday, so I missed the party completely. We came back to Salt Spring to ride out the heat. Even the island is going to the low 30’s, but Chilliwack is supposed to hit 44C tomorrow. This is unprecedented and unsafe, and I hope those who stay in town will be OK. For everyone facing this heatwave, stay safe!

We’re actually on the ferry to pick up DD from the quarantine hotel and bring her back to the island.
The quarantine hotel is horrible and filthy. The room she was checked into wasn’t even cleaned, in fact the used bed wasn’t even changed or made, let alone sanitized. They moved her to a room that at least APPEARED clean. When she went to bed, the duvet had no cover and was wrapped in a sheet which it immediately fell out of. For this they charge almost $400 per night, 3 nights payed in advance or you can’t board your plane to Canada. You can check out as soon as your negative test results

come back, which hers have, but there is no refund for the unused nights. So

yes, it cost $1100 to isolate for 24 hours waiting for test results. Ironically, the place she’s most likely to have been exposed to the virus is that cesspit of a hotel the government insists she stay in. End of rant.

All in all, I’m so excited to have her home, after more than two years without seeing her!

No bouquet lily today, but here is the backyard on Salt Spring instead.

Happy Sunday, all. This heat would be more bearable on board a BHB!

Good morning everyone and Happy Sunday!  Thank you for the Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy. Great days today. I always wear sunglasses 🕶 because I have Transitions although I don’t like them for pictures, they always look gray. I used to play a lot of Bingo on board, especially with my DM but not so much anymore.  And onions!  I love onions, any type and in any form, cooked or raw, and even sneak tastes when I’m cooking.

The crab cakes sound yummy but I think I’m going to make an asparagus quiche today.

I’m really sorry for all of you in the PNW because of the heat wave. It would be so hard without A/C. That’s the only way we can survive here in the desert. Stay safe and keep cool.

Have a great day everyone!!

@AncientWanderer Those glasses look interesting, but when I'm having a uveitis flare I need ones that are really dark and let not much light through, as the light is painful.

@Horizon chaser 1957 That hotel sounds awful! You must be so excited to be seeing DD again!

@Sharon in AZ I've worn Transitions for years. Unfortunately my old prescription no long works. I will get new ones once I'm recovered from the upcoming cataract surgery. I sometimes felt they didn't get dark enough, and unfortunately they stopped making the extra dark ones which had been for people working outdoors.

I find they don’t get dark enough either, especially when driving. I actually have a pair of “Fit Overs” that I wear over my glasses that are really dark and even shade the sides. I keep them in my car. I bought them locally but you can get them on Amazon too. Just search Fit Over Sunglasses.

Greetings from a very hot Victoria!  I'm afraid I am going to be very bad-tempered over the next few days, as I get that way when it's too hot to sleep.  The ice maker has decided it's too hot, too, and is only making a few lumps at a time.  I took a glassful of ice to bed last night and spent a long time icing myself all over! But a very kindly DD brought her portable air conditioner up into the living room, and it is doing its best to try to cool things off.  Here in the kitchen it is "only" 84 degrees!  Pat has been warned that he will be barbecuing tonight.  I love onions, but they don't love me back, unless really well cooked.  I always ask for the HAL frizzled onions on a burger in the Dive In.

Love crab cakes, I always put Old Bay seasoning in them, though.  I play Bingo on the ships too.  I think I went to Plymouth as a child.  My mother occasionally said our English ancestors came over on the first ship, and I would say "But Mother, they all died!" and she would then say well, maybe it wasn't the first ship!  I heard that many times...

Church on line this morning.   Maybe I will do some watering before, though, everything is drooping.  I feel sorry for all the furry animals who have to endure this heat.  I think I will put out some extra water in the shade.

I have a pair of those too! I got them when I was going on my Antarctic cruise, so that they would give additional darkness and also keep the wind away from my eyes since they have the side pieces. An old trick I was told after I couldn't get the darker ones any more was to put the glasses in the refrigerator overnight and that they would get darker; I didn't notice any difference.

We have a portable window A/C coming, but I doubt very much it will get here before this ends.  We'll be ready if there's another...we have you beat, our upstairs yesterday was 89 degrees, only got down to 84 this morning.  And creeping back up, of course.  I did sleep ok, with 3 fans on me lol.  But it will be downstairs tonight and tomorrow at least!  Stay safe and hydrated 🙂

Currently it's 90 degrees here in Bremerton & it's 10:30 a.m. --- I'm trying to outrun the sun -- pulling down our Mylar shades, keeping the blinds & doors closed, the AC is running & later the ceiling fans will come on.....we definitely aren't used to this kind of heat!!!

In regards to the heat, @atexsixand @Cruising-along, if you keep a spray bottle of water beside where your sleeping and mist the sheet over you whenever you wake up, it has an amazing cooling effect! Good luck tonight, and see you on the other side!

Will try that!

Last night my wonderful DH brought me several iced washcloths -- oh that felt good (while it lasted)!!

I've been doing the same and finding I loved iced coffee!

I do too!  I make a batch of coffee every 3 days and keep it it in the fridge. I also make coffee ice cubes. But if you make coffee cubes in a silicone mold make sure to have a designated one just for the coffee cubes.

@Horizon chaser 1957 I'm super excited for you getting to finally hug your DD after all this time.  Seriously though, you should talk to someone in the media about the conditions people are subjected to - that's ridiculous!  And to have to pay in advance, with no refund if you're released early?  Argh!  I hate seeing people ripped off !!!

Stay safe, enjoy your reunion - will look for photos!

To all those who are riding out the heat wave, remember to stay hydrated!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Thanks to all of you who keep this thread going—-one of the highlights of every day.

Thanks also for the care lists.

An update on my sister—she has now completed the powerful chemo treatments, has had three weeks to recover, and goes to M D Anderson tomorrow morning for a CAT scan. They will compare this scan to the pre-chemo scan to see how effective the treatments were, and to determine “next steps”.

I’m so grateful for the prayers of this group. She was very touched when I told her that she was being prayed for by people all over the world!
