Buying drinks using medallion app

May be a daft question, but here goes.  If both my travel companion and myself are on the drinks package, and I want to order a drink each using the app, would we have to both order separately using our individual apps/devices, or can I just order 2 drinks from my device please?

The rules of the drink package only allows you to order drinks for yourself.  Your companion with the drink package would order their drink.

That is a pain, was much easier when you could just order and hand over 2 cards.  Oh well, thats progress for you 😄

Good question. The drink package is limited one drink at a time/pp. I think on the medallion app you can select which person. So probably two separate orders one for each. Probably easier to just order from a waiter, unless you are in an area of the ship that does not have frequent waiters.

I would think if your both lounging by the pool area and you both have the drink package, the waiter would use each person's medallion. On our one phone, we have both of us listed on the medallion class app, so why not make a separate drink order from each person shown on it.

I don't see the difference between handing over two cards and handing over two Medallions.

Reading these posts, there are comments relating to ordering the drink(s) using the MC App and paying for ordered drinks using the physical Medallion(s) (a tap by the wait staff).  Different things.

But if the other person is elsewhere on the ship (perhaps back in the cabin), they will have their medallion with them, so you will not be able to hand over two medallions.

When ordering drinks via the app, make sure you check the price. My last cruise was a medallion cruise and the app tried to charge me $24 for a drink with vodka.  I took the evidence to the help station on board but they didn't have it fixed by cruise end.  Given they've had 18 months, hopefully it's fixed.

Be interesting ordering from the casino table, as phones at the table is a big no-no.

😕  well  that presents a conundrum

Nor would you be able to hand over two cruise cards with that situation.

Normally, lost of wait staff nearby in the casino.  Also, just step back from chair, make the order and return to chair?  Not an issue at the poker table.

Right, I am starting to understand it more now.  So really, the majority of times, you can just ask the wait staff for your drinks, its not essential to use the app all the time to order drinks.

Pre 'rona - the first drink ordered thru the app was free - that's one reason to use the app - and was the only time we used it that way on our last cruise - SKY - 12/2019

We did use the App in other ways, but for sure made sure we got the free drink!!  Yum.

I hope the menu is expanded because not all drinks were loaded on it.  I think they should add a custom slot to order a drink not listed.  I appreciate they cannot likely load every drink they actually make, but I would like to be able to order a "XYZ" if I know they make it and it isn't on the App list under OCEAN Now.  I have suggested this in every cruise feedback survey since the feature was added.

Our last cruise was Jan 2020 on Sky so we used the medallion.  My husband and I were on a drinks package and if one of us order two drinks, they "charged" it to both accounts.  I think they could see that our accounts were linked.   Someone they figured it out and not once in two weeks did we find that an error was made in posting two drinks to one account - always split between the two.  However, if we were together at the bar they staff would either have both of us wave our medallion, or asked for one and then automatically charged the 2nd drink to the 2nd account.   It just worked well for us for those two weeks.

Surely you would not be ordering two drinks if the other person was somewhere else.

Also as Steelers36 points out, the difference between ordering and 'paying' for drinks. The only time I see ordering drinks via the App is when no waiters are available and in that instance, two cruise cards would be of no help.

We have bought the drinks package. So, if I go ahead to the bar, with my wife joining me in 10 minutes or so later, it looks like I cannot get her a drink ready for when she arrives.

that wasn't our experience.   For example I would wait for my husband in the Princess theatre and he would go and get both of our drinks from a bar.   He was never declined, he didn't carry my medallion, and in every instance the drinks were "charged" to the correct account (I say charged because we had the drinks package).

Ditto with Island Wannabe - actually bar tenders quickly got used to the fact that we both had drinks package and we are not heavy drinkers, so it was not the number of visits 🙂 But your question is a good one, most often DW is still getting ready and she likes me to get out from under her feet, so I accept and trudge off to the bar !
