Fox (aka silly Willy) - a rescue from a seizure where she was beaten and survived eating wood and ice for water.  It was amazing to watch her change as she grew to trust.  Maverick adopted her and taught her how to play, what a toy was and all the rules of the house.  Miss that little munckin

I've tried explaining to people over the years that ocean liners and cruise ships are built differently.  And that there's a reason many ships never leave the Caribbean, at least I hope they don't.  Wouldn't want to be on many of them on a trans sailing. 

 

I know which one I'd prefer in a transatlantic storm.  Plus it's ugly as sin, can't believe ships are starting to look like this.

I'm loving all the photos of Bordeaux, and the pets.  I can't tell you how many times I've audibly said "Awwww" when I see the dogs and cats. 

 

Our heat wave hasn't abated quite yet; it's only 11AM and already the temp has hit 30 degrees - the a/c kicked in a couple of hours ago.  Have a great day everyone!

Oh my....all the great pet photos today are a wonderful cure for loneliness.  My summer reading is the "All Creatures Great and Small" series, James Herriott.  The photos fit some of the characters in his books.

 

If you ever fly over Los Angeles County on a clear day, you will see literally thousands of swimming pools.  They are practically an essential here in Southern California.  

 

The Bordeaux photos are wonderful.  Looks like a "must-do."

 

I hope everyone is having a lovely and peaceful Sunday.  Thank you once again to all who contribute to The Daily.  DH and I are heading out to the desert today for a getaway.  Truly an odd thing to do, as it will be about 115 degrees.  I think we are testing our mettle.

We were on a very nice walking tour on our second day in Bordeaux that Jacqui @kazu   had organized and I saw a lot of pictures from that tour already today so will only add a few that I don’t think I have seen yet from us.

Agree completely. The newer cruise ships keep getting bigger and uglier. Most of them look like a big barge with containers piled high on it. So top heavy that they look dangerous.

We were fending off a storm on my first cruise on the Prinsendam.  Captain Gundersen had taken us 200 miles off course to avoid the worst of it but we were still fighting.  When he told us that the waves were 39’ (I think he said feet, not metres, can’t remember) I honestly didn’t believe him.   I was in the Crow’s Nest and  went down to the promenade deck to look.

 

There was only a small motion of the ocean on the ship - at least as far as I was concerned.  DH had a tiny mal de Mer but nothing serious that a green apple didn’t cure 😉   

 

So you know I don’t exaggerate, the storm was so bad that we couldn’t go to St. Tropez as it had destroyed their dock completely.  No way could any ship arrive there.

 

The other thing I loved about that ship is that really it didn’t matter where you were to have a smooth ride.  There was so little difference in the motion between forward and aft and the centre that it wasn’t worth talking about.  That ship literally cut through waves giving a very smooth ride and had some of the best captains I’ve seen.  We were often on the forward portion of the ship - same deck as the Crow’s Nest and had a very smooth ride.

 

She was truly built to sail the seven seas and I miss her a lot. 😔 😢

Good afternoon.  Before I make a quick (I hope) run to the store, I thought I'd show some pictures from our tour to Cognac in 2011.  With a morning arrival, we had time for a longer tour and still time to see some of Bordeaux.

 

BTW, DH caught an error in the other post.  Our third time in Bordeaux was in 2017.

 

Before the pictures of Cognac, here is one more of the pilot being lifted off the Prinsendam.  He had a harness that went under his arms.  He did not hold onto the harness, but kept his arms straigt.

 

Our tour to Cognac took us to the Hennesey Distillery. The bus dropped us off at the visitor center where we boarded a boat to take us across the river to the distillery.

 

We then went back to the visitor center for a tasting where DH got my sample.  Follwing that we had lunch at this restaurant, and as the name says, we had chicken.

 

After lunch, we had some free time to wander around Cognac.

 

We found the flower market, which was basically closed by the time we got there.

 

On the way back to Bordeaux, we crossed the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, where a monument to the pilgrims had been erected in the roundabout.

 

I am also having trouble with the pictures uploading.  They all took a long time to upload and three failed.  I just clicked choose files and reselected them.  It worked the second time.  CC has been having problems the last coulple of days in addition to the login/logout trouble.

 

After I posted, CC decided to upload the three failed pictures and posted them below my name.  Since they are duplicates, I took them off.

We were also in some rough weather on the Prinsendam, and it was not bad on the ship.  Both Captain Gunderson and Captain D D, told us she was built as an ocean liner, which is whe she could ride the waves so well.  (Pun intended)  Just another reason to miss The Elegant Explorer.

This is Lucas, age 13 1/2. He is the fourth miniature Schnauzer that we’ve been blessed to have as a faithful family member. He is mostly deaf and has a slight heart murmur, otherwise quite healthy for his age.

Good day and thanks all!  
We spent several days staying in Bordeaux in a wine agent’s home,   So we got to experience some excellent wines.  But overall, we were surprised at how difficult Visiting some of the wineries could be.

DD was just diagnosed with shingles and DSIL has a post op infection so both could use some prayers!
