Delta (Air not variant) Cancelled My Flight

Delta, love the Flights but 90% change times or Cancel/Combine Flights. This before CV. Multiple times paid extra to get choice time leaves, then later canceled and assigned the original cheaper flight at time didnt want

In our case we are actually hoping this is what happens. We have booked a return flight the day after our cruise arrives at Port but it is at 6 AM. I was not quick enough to get the 11 AM flights. Not looking forward to being up at 3:30 or four in the morning to get to the airport at our hotel. If they can buy in fights and most of the 11 AM flight I will be more than happy.

THere's never a fee to change flights with Delta if THEY changed the schedule on you.  If it gets to be problematic, I could change without penalty right this minute.  They send you a schedule change with segments checked if different and a notice that they will switch flights if need be.  The latest email has time changes on all 4 segments, so I'm not really worried.  If ya'll don't think I have enough time, I'll change it to a later flight!

I have to agree that Delta has been very good to us personally. Even when our cruise got cancelled due to Covid on a nonrefundable and credit only fair, I just called them to explain the situation and they refunded all of our tickets. This is one of the reasons we continue to fly with Delta if we possibly can.

@RCCL Fan How much later was your original flight? Is staying overnight an option? Or is going out of Miami an option? Maybe you could do an Everglades excursion that returns to the Miami airport....if there are any (I know Celebrity has one offered for our cruise out of Ft L).

Did you check if they have flights from Melbourne (MLB)

as i mentioned earlier there isn't a later flight with seats in our cabin, that connects in the city i need.

we have a lot of variables  (big party going to different cities) i discussed earlier,  which is why I likely will have to cancel

I’d rent a car in FLL, drive to Orlando ( not a horrible drive) then fly to Atlanta then DallaaDallas

kids in school --- not an option --- gotta get back for finals.

By law they have to refund you.I was just reading about this yesterday, it’s a law and they have no choice. If the flight change is more than I believe it’s 90 minutes they have to refund you although they will try not to but they have to. Don’t take no period.

I might be off as far as the time but not by much. Even if the offer you a different flight you have the right to say no and get a refund

Yeah ours a bit more complicated....  we're taking my niece on the cruise with us.  She's in Atlanta,  we're in Dallas.  So we need to connect in Atlanta to drop her off to her parents at the airport post cruise, before we connect and head to Dallas.

We also upgraded and there aren't 5 seats up front (for all of us)  on any of the flights the rest of the day.  So we'd have to downgrade.

It's also the holidays and so flights the next day are even worse....

It's a mess.

I hope you will come back and tell us what happens.  I know it's inconvenient to be split up.

Any chance you are in a suite? We have made a flight earlier than that in FLL on Allure. We were in a suite and we asked for 730 am departure, porters came for our luggage and we were out in 10 minutes. I beleive it was a 9:40 flight (flight  time was changed while we were on the cruise!)

New flight from FLL the morning after my cruise leaves at 10:17am    I never leave that early......    and no, I'm not walking off with my luggage.

Do able or should I fight them for a refund?

Didn't you have a flight issue a couple of weeks back?  I think someone is trying to tell you something.

I don't know if you checked car rental rates lately in Florida. They are through the roof. We canceled our trip to Florida in October because it was going to cost over $600 for a compact car for a week. I checked all of them and even my AAA discount was of little help. Apparently they have little inventory because they sold off the cars during the height of covid.

We also had the same experience when staying in a suite and had to make a very early flight from SJU....AA changed the flight on us 6 times...and the early flight was the only option for us. We were the first escorted off and into a taxi.

I'm not sailing out of Orlando.  not planning to drive up there.  I can just cancel and change airlines.

Check flights out of West Palm Beach and Miami as well.  You may have better luck.

We are in a sky class suite,  no genie.... but worth a shot I supposed, if I can't get Delta to give me a cash refund.

@RCCL Fan Any chance of 2 on 1 plane, 3 on a different one, and just meet up in Atlanta?

Cancelling seems drastic!

  3 kids --- can't split them up.

cancelling the airline ticket, and buying another one on another airline

not cancelling  the cruise.

We have done walk-off in FLL and been sitting on the airplane by 8:30am. Admittedly much more difficult with kids and with this whole Covid travel mess.

FLL, MIA, PBI, and RSW are all closer than MCO. In normal times there are LOTS of flights out of MCO. But there are also lots of people and sometimes it ends up being the worst option.

We were D+ but only staying in a JS that cruise (asked our concierge about an early departure and he said no worries I'll take care of it and he did)...Worth a shot ...yes...you never know.

What do you all think of PreCheck, is that worth the 85 bucks?

All it takes is that one time that security is jammed to make you realize that 85 bucks is well worth the cost. I arrived at the Cleveland airport two hours before my flight ... and have never had a problem before getting through security with ample time to have a leisurely breakfast before heading down the concourse to my gate.

But that time, it took over an hour to get through security. If that lady with the handicap cart hadn't given me a ride to my gate at the far end of the concourse, I'd have missed my flight. They closed the door before I got to my seat on the plane. I made it a priority to get Global Entry before I took another trip.

We have flights booked with Delta for our upcoming Sept cruise.  A couple weeks ago got a notice that our return flight was changed to 6AM.  Luckily there were other flights that would work for us, but got an error when trying to make the change on the web site; msg said to call.  Spent hours on hold on a number a different calls and never was able to speak to anyone.  Then yesterday got an email that our flight schedule had changed again, this time to something that works.

Not recommending this as your plan of action, but very possible that if you wait a few days, the flight schedules will change up again!

Good luck,

I think you can make it work.  Since you’re in a suite, the concierge will happily arrange for you to “first off” at 7:30, no need to schlep your own bags.  There won’t be any significant lines for baggage or customs in the terminal yet. Grab a porter to help with your bags and hustle you out for a taxi.  FLL  is 10 minutes away and you’ll be there before the crowds from the ships show up.

You’ll need to be organized, but I would give it a shot- especially since there aren’t any decent alternatives.

good luck!
