Cocoa Beach

Has anyone taken either a private excursion or bus/taxi to Cocoa Beach from Port Canaveral while  on the cruise during the last week (Aug 25) or so.  Bahamas is now at a Level 4 high risk for covid and wondering what concerns anyone has or their experience.

 

Also, can anyone advise if the seating in the theater (Oasis of the Seas) are being socially distant

Oasis doesn’t start revenue sailings till 9/5 - you might get some feedback after then.

Please make sure that you find accurate information for conditions in Florida and make  sure that precautions are taken while in the state.

John and laura live there plus others. 

 

You do know the usa is at level 4 the same level as bahamas right? Nothing has changed protocol wise because bahamas is level 4.

You ca also take the bus. Pickup next to terminal.

As John has said, if you are looking for a beach break, just head to Lori Wilson Park.  If you want to stay very close to the port, there is Jetty Park which has both the beach and and the pier that you sail by on the way in/out of the port. 

 

For transportation, there is the bus that John mentioned and there are also numerous Ubers in the area whenever a ship is docked at the port. 

 

If you are looking and just getting off the ship and walking around, you can easily stroll to the Cove area which has bars and restaurants which overlook the harbor.

 

You can't go wrong in the area.

We stayed in Cocoa Beach before we went on Allure on 8/15.  We also sailed into there as a port of call on Adventure in '19.  Your best bet is stay on the ship!  It's a beach town, nothing much to do.  If you forgot something, you can always take an Uber to Ron Jon, shop there, there's a CVS and Walgreens next door to each other, across the street.  There's a cool pier a few blocks from there as well with some nice bars over the water, you can watch the surfers, or just go walk on the beach.  Nothing much at all to do in town, unless you went to NASA.

There's a thread titled "Oasis Simulation 8/22" and you should pose that question there.  It's only at 10-12% capacity, but you should get a good feel  Otherwise wait until the Sept. 5 sail and I'm sure there will be  a lot of information.

I was reading some of the ship's tour, and it made it sound that there's a shuttle service.

When we sailed there in '19, we just took an Uber, it was a lot cheaper than a ship's shore excursion.  It's only a few miles

Hi and thanks for the responses.  I am aware of the few "beach spots" in the area that were mentioned and figured Uber was the best and safest method to get to these.  Just not too sure if Jetty is clean enough to swim since it is so close to the port.  Our main objective is just beach time with just a swim and relaxing on the beach..not really interested in the "town" itself and the activities at the pier.  As mentioned we are just worried about venturing out due to the Covid situation.  Thanks again for the input and suggestions.

We took that one time.  Bought tickets onboard and it drops you at Ron Jon's.  We then walked down to the Cocoa Beach Pier and had lunch on the pier. We walked back, went through Ron John's and caught the bus back.  Been there, done that.  Since we always stay at the Radisson in PC when we cruise out of there, we've seen a lot there so now we just stay onboard and enjoy the quiet.  Best excursion we did there was the Space Center.

We stayed at the Radisson after storming out of the Days Inn by the pier.  Best decision we made!  What a great hotel!

We've stayed there 8 or 9 times over the last 16 years.  We'll be back there at the end of Nov.  Close to the port, a couple of restaurants right there and a great pool/tiki bar.  Also, their breakfast buffet is good.

 

Okay, back on topic lol.  Bahamas is level 4 due to their low level of vaccinations.  Level 4 seems to be a popular level to be at.

I am sure the theater seating will be socially distant, it is on all the other royal ships that are sailing.

That is incorrect.  We were on Allure last week, and the theatre was not socially distant.  However....The vaccinated passengers were on deck 4 and the unvaccinated were on deck 5.  That being said, with 1500 pax on board Allure who holds 6000+, the theatre was pretty empty anyway

Just got an updated Oasis schedule for Sept. 5 sail and we are arriving at PC at 2PM,  one hour later.  This is due to Oasis leaving Bayonne at 6 rom the original 4.

Wow - I am really surprised to hear the Allure was Not socially distancing theater seats.       

Lives reviews and photos I have seen on various sailings have shown social distancing on all shows, including the ice shows.    

When Oasis sails should pretty much be all vaccinated except for some small children/toddlers since all kiddos have or will start school soon.    So deck the upper level seating should be pretty empty for MDR and Theater.

I got the same update for 9.26 sailing.      I guess that hour will be a big deal for people that were planning on going to disney for the day,

Nope, it was show your bracelet, go grab a seat where you want.  Granted, most people were spread out, but that was by choice and the fact that there was plenty of room
