fstuff1 Posted September 15, 2021 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2021 (Equinox 2021) I always think of the chopped beef in the Sirloin steak tv dinners. (aka re-labeled meatloaf aka fancy name for hamburger) This the same?
cruzzzinma Posted September 15, 2021 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2021 It is not ground sirloin. But it is a “hard steak.”
Bretty Posted September 15, 2021 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2021 Striploin and Sirloin are pretty much interchangeable terms although in the US I believe striploin refers to a cut from a specific section of the loin. Here in the UK they pretty much mean the same, and the ten sirloin is more commonly used.
Rare PTC DAWG Posted September 15, 2021 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2021 Sirloin steak, strip, 6 or half dozen.
bikerunner Posted September 16, 2021 #5 Share Posted September 16, 2021 Honestly like sirloin better than strip steak. But they are honestly close. Both cook same way. Find sirloin more flavor overall. It’s the steak I by from my local cattle farm in bulk. Use to by 1/4 side of beef but after trying all the cuts fell on sirloin for overall taste and value. Would get rib eye but that is 2x more expensive right now
Mike45LC Posted September 16, 2021 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2021 It is not ground beef aka "chopped beef." It is a lower priced steak. But as Bikerunner pointed out, it is a more flavorful piece of meat. It would have to be "tenderized" well beyond normal to resemble those frozen TV dinners! happy cruzer Posted September 16, 2021 #7 Share Posted September 16, 2021 New York Strip Steak and Ribeye are our go to "steaks" for grilling. Like what others have suggested to order the small filet mignon from the children's menu.
Rare cruisestitch Posted September 16, 2021 #8 Share Posted September 16, 2021 Fstuff1, Why would you think that it is chopped sirloin? It doesn’t say that.

They come bone-in or boneless (also called NY Sirloin Strip steak). Very common menu item in a lot of restaurants and steakhouses in the US. Also very common in supermarkets. Then of course there is "chopped" sirloin or ground sirloin (used in hamburger).
zdad59 Posted September 16, 2021 #11 Share Posted September 16, 2021 Shouldn't be too big a change. One thing with MDR steaks though, if you like your steak done MEDIUM, you need to order it MEDIUM RARE. They have a tendency to slightly overcook their red meat. I always ask for it done one level less and then it usually comes out fine.

Alakegirl Posted September 16, 2021 #13 Share Posted September 16, 2021 Some places call it a Kansas City strip steak, which is a diffeeent cut than a sirloin. But fstuff1, it is only a chopped steak in your imagination 😁
Auntiemomo Posted September 16, 2021 #14 Share Posted September 16, 2021 Sirloin tends to be a bit tougher than a NY strip. Costco sells Prime sirloin. I saw some with a lot of marbling, so I thought I would try them. It's nowhere close to taste and consistency of a Prime NY strip. I can't imagine Celebrity's sirloin being any better -- it's just another way of cutting back.

earlydiner Posted September 17, 2021 #16 Share Posted September 17, 2021 (edited) Don't know what you want to call the steak on the "always available" menu but I had it once or twice on the Millennium last week and it was delicious. Ask for it medium rare and that is how it came. Edited September 17, 2021 by earlydiner
Rare DCPIV Posted September 17, 2021 #17 Share Posted September 17, 2021 The NY/KC strip is from a certain part of the top sirloin. Other parts may not be exactly the same and have the same marbling, but they can be quite good. If it's good, it's good. I wouldn't get too worked up. Dancing Shoes Posted September 17, 2021 #19 Share Posted September 17, 2021 I'm from the west coast. Never head of a New York Sirloin. It's either a New York or it is Sirloin. I grew up with sir loin being the most expensive cut of beef in our house. Rather confusing menu label.

jskinsd Posted September 17, 2021 #21 Share Posted September 17, 2021 Who cares what it is called. If you like the steak order it again. If you don't like the steak send it back and order something else. You are on a cruise not at home shopping for meat. Now the difference between ice cream and gelato, that's controversial.✌️
