Hi everyone!

Today started with good news as overnight we received an email from HAL to say that we have been given a boarding time for our October 6th cruise.  Group B, 1.20pm. We are happy with that and if it changes to a later time, guess which boarding pass will be produced at check in? 😇

Time to head up to the attic and retrieve the emotional baggage from its hideaway of the last 20 months.

We also got rid of DW's little run around car.  It was 15 years old but only had 80,000kms (50,000mls) on it.  We have decided that running two cars is unnecessary and wasteful, so we waved goodbye to her little Terios.

DW is suffering side effects from her zoledronic acid infusion.  Chills and a temperature with bone pain.  Hopefully it will ease in the next 24 hours.

Thanks for today's Daily.  and positive thoughts for all in need.

Sorry your wife is having a bad reaction to the infusion.  Hope she feels better soon.

Good afternoon all, I'm very late to the table today.  A nod to the American Legion and to those who collect rocks.  I miss my deceased step-father, and real father as well.  Excellent quote today and so true.  Not sure about the meal today.  I think today's wine would pair perfectly with a roasted bratwurst, sauerkraut and yellow delicious apples dish that we have in the Fall.  Haven't been to today's port and look forward to all of the photos.  Prayers to all on our list today esp. @atexsix.  Cheers to all of you celebrating a happy event today.

I am so sorry to hear this 😢. I hope it does ease quickly and she feels much better FAST!  She’s been through enough.  Prayers for her 🙏🏻

Good morning, Dailyites!  Thank you to everyone, and for the Care and Celebrations lists, the food and drinks, and all the pictures to bring back memories.

We went to Australia in 2010 to visit Pat's sister and family in Perth, then we did a little wandering and visited  3 sets of friends in eastern Australia.  We went to Cairns and Port Douglas on our own, we flew there from Perth, and then took the train back to Brisbane and Sydney.   We did the first class train to Kuranda, it was amazing, there was only one other passenger in the car and the conductor plied us with food and drink.  Comfortable swivel chairs.   So I will post some pictures of that - most of my others are repeats of the previous.  We also visited the bird place in Kuranda, you could buy little bags of goodies for the birds, with cookies, corn, seeds etc., in the bag, and the birds knew exactly which bit they wanted, they would put their heads in and take out what they wanted (the cookies went first).  Also we visited an alligator (croc?) and koala place.

Cairns itself, I remember, we really enjoyed our few days there - so much I didn't take any pictures!  I remember the huge fruit bats used to come in to roost in the trees, and the citizens were talking about cutting the trees down as they didn't like the mess.  I thought the bats were amazing.

We also went to Port Douglas and took a boat out to see the reef.

Look at how nice first class seats are!  You can even see out the window.  The shore excursion people put you back in "steerage"!

Thanks for sharing.

@Quartzsite Cruiserthank you for your photos and discussion.  Amazing how these Captains can back a huge ship up a channel, while I inch backwards in the car with a back up camera to help.  😁

You mentioned Port Douglas being nearby to Cairns.  We actually stopped in Port Douglas on a 2013 Australia cruise on Diamond Princess.  As I recall we got off the ship and walked a little way through town then over to Four Mile Beach.  PD was not nearly the size of Cairns.  It was a gloomy day so the beach didn't look very inviting.  00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLm1QNIDdCsduk_2PbPbbSS?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1388704208

We did not spend too much time in Port Douglas, but did like what we saw in the short time we were there.  We did not want to miss the ship, so in case of problems we headed back early.

By that time DH had driven on the "wrong" side of the road many times and was comfortable doing so.  We saw another couple from the ship in Port Dogulas and offered them a ride.  Because friends had gotten in a serious accident driving on the left, the were gun shy about riding with someone who was not used to driving on that side.  They made it back to the ship, and I think they took the bus.

@Sir PMP Your picture of Ochre Restaurant brings back memories from our time in Cairns. DH and I had a wonderful meal in a perfect location along the inlet. Ochre is described as "...offering a virtual tour through the culinary delights of Australia." My recollections agree. Thanks for the memories!

BTW, the drink on the left is the HAL drink that Mariners use a coupon for:

What was the drink Sharon for the Mariners?  It doesn’t look completely appealing but maybe I’m a pessimist 😉

I knew someone would ask!  😉

I don’t remember the name but it reminded me of a champagne cocktail, it was a bit too sweet for me. I think it was elderflower with champagne and something else. I am a horrible note taker. One was more than enough and Craig never ordered his.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

I salute the American Legion. I've collected a few rocks in my travels. Step families are great; lots of blended families these days.

Love the quote.

I'll pass on the meal (fish), drink and wine today. I'll take Roy's meal instead.

I have been to Australia, but not Cairns. Thanks for the pictures.

After rain most of yesterday, it's nice here today. Sadly our Covid numbers keep going up; 574 new cases in the county in the last 24 hours. There may be a mask mandate coming soon.

@rafinmd Safe travels. Enjoy the reunion.

@mamaofami Hoping Sam is released today. Good luck with the podiatry issue.

@cat shepard It sounds like the knee is coming along. One of my issues from steroids for the eye is muscle tone loss; it's hard to get up without using my arms. PT starting next week should help. Cool pictures!

@kazu Good news about your BF's DH. And I hope Jose is feeling better today.

@St. Louis Sal Sorry to hear of DH's fall; thankfully nothing broken.

@lcand1923 Safe travels and enjoy the cruise!

@VMax1700 Praying your DW's side effects from the medication are gone soon. And you have your upcoming cruise to look forward to.

@atexsix Prayers for a swift recovery.

Prayers for the care list and cheers for the celebration list.

Stay safe and wear your mask.

Thanks Sharon - much appreciated.  It doesn’t sound terribly appealing.  I preferred the old ones they had where you could basically get what suited.

Few pictures of our Cairns visit in 2015 , on the way up to Kuranda we took that nice train ride and on the way back we chose the Skyrail over the rainforest which was wonderful .

No explanations today because we are trying to safe somehow the possibility to cruise next months after we were  cancelled yesterday .

Good Afternoon All,

Our overcast has turned into yuck in the air. Visibility is poor. Am planning on working on a few projects and a ride in the remainder of the day. Visited Dad and did his and our grocery shopping. Still need to plan dinner. ( I’ve been so uninspired to cook since I had several days off for my camping trip. What’s with that?)

Collect Rocks Day - will have to tell my neighbor. He’s pretty heavily into that. And our Golden Retriever (Rock Hound) periodically also collects stones: in our yard, on walks, etc. He’s been known to find one and carry it hidden in his mouth all the way home ( a mile or more). Then he drops it when he gets in the house, and moves it from room to room for several days if we don’t take it away. ( He has also taken confiscated stones back.)

Good Day everyone! Thank you Rich for the Daily Report, and thank you Roy for the Cares Report and Celebrations Report. And thank you everyone for caring and sharing!

The drink of the day is one of my favorites! And it was only introduced to me two years ago. We were on the start of our trip to the Sudtirol of Italy before our cruise aboard the Nieuw Statendam in Fall 2019After traveling BWI-LHR-MXP and then the Trenitalia Frecciarossa  train to Verona, we still had the energy to enjoy our hotel's rooftop lounge. The Hotel Milano location was within earshot of the Verona Arena. Oh, what an evening it would have been with a venue going on! Started with an Aperol Spritz accompanied by potato chips and mini-ham sandwiches. The waiter then suggested having a Negroni. It just so happened that the bartender mixed his own Negroni in small batches. He had bottled a few that were available that evening. Fantastico! While imbibing, DW had the view of the Arena's "ala."

We haven't been to Cairns,  but love the Queensland accent.
