The Daily for Friday October 01, 2021

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  Rabbit, white rabbit - yes, I remembered.  I also remembered we celebrated coffee a couple of days ago; I'll have another cup in a few minutes.  I have great respect for the elderly, but have you noticed that the elderly are always people who are at least 15 years older than ourselves?  Haven't made cookies in a while, so will get to doing that today.

The last little while we've had trouble with our fountain, having to fill it every couple of hours.  We initially thought it was leaking, so DH disassembled it, then set it on the patio with paper underneath and filled it.  No leak.  He checked for cracks, etc., but couldn't find anything.  Well yesterday, while he was out filming with the drone pilot, I decided to see what I could do.  It was nearly dry, so I took the pump out, made an adjustment or two (basically restricted the flow of water), settled it down and made sure it was level (for some reason it was tip-tilted to the left), filled it and set it to go.  Well guess what?  I fixed it!  Less splashing, and 1 fill of the tub meant it went all afternoon with very little loss of water - most of which was from the birds splashing about.  We used to have a friend (Cathy) who was very frugal and tried to fix everything about the house, so when DH came home, I told him I'd channeled my "inner Cathy" and fixed the fountain.  LOL

Speaking of DH and the drones, he said they'd captured some beautiful fall foliage footage (say that 3 times in a row!), and showed me a screen capture that I'd like to share with you.  What you can see is a lovely apple orchard set on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River about 1 hour north of Saskatoon.  The trees are beautiful at this time of year, I think!

I've only had catfish once and wasn't blown over by it, so I'll pass on today's menu.  It's Friday night, so that means pizza night at our house.  There's a new little pizza place across the city that is getting great reviews, so I think we'll place an order for pick up and see what it's like for ourselves.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Clinking the glasses together to celebrate all on the happy list.  Stay safe, wash your hands, wear your masks, be well, and hydrate!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

To all that asked about the bursting wine bottle. The liquor store told me yesterday that it happens on their own shelves from time to time. It may be due to a bottle sitting in a hot trunk for a period of time, or most likely wine bottled before the fermentation process is complete. He said that's why sparkling wines/champagne have stronger, heavier bottles so the fermentation doesn't allow the bottle to burst. Who knew!!

Back in my college days I worked graveyard at a 7-11 in Saugus, CA. One night I started hearing loud popping, like gunshots almost. One of the coolers had gone out and instead of cooling the products it was heating them. Lost about 20 bottles of wine that night before I figured out what was going on and moved the rest into the walk-in cooler.

Good Morning, all!

Welcome, October...my birth month.  Ever since we moved to Central Florida (22 years ago), we have proclaimed the best months are April and October -- generally lower humidity and not hot, hot, hot.

We have appointments tomorrow at Walgreen's for our Pfizer booster AND our annual flu shots. 👍

We did our first Alaskan cruise/tour in June of 2002, on the Celebrity Summit, starting in Vancouver.  The first night of the land portion we stayed at the Alyeska Resort.  It was so beautiful up there, we went up to their Seven Glaciers Restaurant for a drink and looked out over the bare ski runs and the snow capped mountains.  Later that evening, we went into Girdwood for dinner at the Double Muskie Inn on the recommendation of our tour bus driver (whom we ran into having dinner with her husband who had driven from Anchorage to be with her before the start of our tour).  Sorry 😔, but that was pre-digital so no pictures to show unless I get inspired to try a dig some out and scan them.  Here are links to the Alyeska Resort and Double Muskie Inn.

Good morning all. Cool but sunny here. Shaping up to be a nice day. Someone mentioned the computer chip shortage- just to bring it into perspective, our DSIL works in the Stellantis (aka Chrysler) mini van plant here. They have only worked some 14 weeks this year, a couple on, then off again for awhile because of the chip shortage. They went back this week but who knows how long they can work until they are off again. So if you were looking for the Pacifica mini van , they are in short supply, just like every other model for every other car company. Windsor is always hit hard economically when there is a downturn in the automotive industry for whatever reason. So many of the jobs in this city depend on automotive being healthy.

wishing everyone a great weekend. Cheers to celebrations and prayers where needed.

👍Thank you for The Daily Rich @richwmnand to Roy @rafinmd for both the Care and Celebration Lists.

🚢Our cruise for April 2022 (Tokyo to Vancouver) has been cancelled by HAL and a replacement was offered for 2023...just not sure?🤔

🙏Prayers to all in need and thank you to those who contribute.

Rabbit, white rabbit - Happy October!

The moving van arrived yesterday at my DS & DDIL's new apartment, so now it is filled with boxes of "stuff"! We're grateful that only one piece was damaged, easily replaced at Ikea. The next time I see the place (post-cruise), they should be nicely settled in.

Thankful for coffee. the elderly (15 years older than me!), and homemade cookies. Yum!

Stay well!

Thanks for the Daily, Rich and our TGIF smile 🙂

I could have sworn we had a coffee day the other day but that’s ok, I drink coffee every day 🙂  Nice to see the elderly with their own day as they deserve respect & who doesn’t love homemade cookies?

Love the Saint Augustine quote.  Love the meal suggestion for the day.  If we could get catfish here I sure would be having it.

@smitty34877so sorry to hear about your DDIL.  Hope she recovers easily & quickly and your DS remains negative.

@aliaschiefyay on being on your way.  Hope you have a smooth flight and a wonderful cruise!

@dfishexcellent news on your back.

Seems that there are more and more fraudulent calls trying to rip people off in these covid times.  A friend of mine uses this method to combat them and I think it’s a great idea:

Looks like a dreary rainy day out there so far.  I guess that means I will have to clean the house if I can’t work outside.  It sure could use some cleaning 😉

Prayers for those on the Care list & for those that need them and 🥂 to those on the Celebratory / Shout Out list.

Have a great Friday everyone!!!

Stay safe & please don’t forget your 😷

I can always tell your posts without even looking at your name. Love all your great cartoons.

Carol, I am glad to hear Sam is home but not surprised he was tired after all the excitement.  An hour and a half phone conversation sometimes wears me out so that could have contributed to his weariness too.  You're right about everything needing a computer chip these days and all the shortages.  When I heard about the car companies running out of them and halting car manufacturing I asked my son about them.  He and a colleague at U. of Michigan founded two chip companies about a decade ago but theirs are specialty chips for low power devices and not the sort they need in the cars.  I hope things turn around in the chip industry quickly or we will all feel that shortage sooner or later.

I am astonished at the great service you got for your furnace.  Your repair people deserve an award for going out of their way to get you set up for winter.  Spread the word to neighbors and friends so they can give them their business when needed.

Have a wonderful day with your hubby!

Yes, our repair service was especially great. I think he knew about Sam and went out of his way to help. We’ve been good customers and purchased our air conditioner and furnace from them about 5 years ago on the recommendation of my son in law.

Will catch up on reading today's Daily later. I am off to get my Covid booster this morning and then have errands to run. I have been off the list the last few days and am sort of out of the loop. It has been cool and rainy here for the past few days (YES!!!!!) and we have a few more days of it ahead. Little Bandit has been rushed in and out between showers and thunderstorms. The storm two nights ago was one that shook the house with thunder claps rolling one after another with no break. Bandit slept through it all. I would have used today's drink.

Will catch up later. Best wishes to all....

Susan

White Rabbit!  White Rabbit!  White Rabbit!

I was thinking of making brownies today, but may instead make either peanut butter or chocolate chip cookies.  I have not baked in months due to inclination, but I do have the ingredients on hand.  Will I bake?  Who knows.

Have a good day and enjoy your coffee.

Good morning. Thanks for the Daily. Happy October (my birth month). Rabbit, White Rabbit.

Good days. Love coffee and drink it daily. A salute to us older folks, although I don't like the term elderly (at what age is that?). Homemade cookies are great, but not making them while trying to lose weight.

Great quote.

I'll pass on catfish and wine.  The drink sounds interesting.

I have not been to today's destination. Hoping to see some pictures.

Brrrr. It was 46 this AM, but it's warming up nicely. I'm going to relax a bit after lots of appointments this week. Next week it's 4 out of 5 days, then I can slow down a bit.

@AncientWanderer Prayers for your friend. She is lucky to have your support.

@aliaschief Safe travels!

@dfish Great news that your procedure has helped.

@smitty34877 Sorry to hear DDIL has Covid. I hope her case remains mild.

@mamaofami I'm glad Sam is settled at home. It will take a while for him to get his endurance back. Oh no on the furnace, but that's stellar service you got.

@garlictown Sorry your cruise was cancelled.

Prayers for the care list and cheers to the celebration list.

Stay safe and wear your mask.

Good  morning  everyone . We just  finished  doing  our proctored  Binax covid  tests  and we  are negative . Testing  was easy  with  minimal  waiting ,although  my husband  did have trouble  with the accents . I was able  to  help  him though.

We are going  on Odyssey  of  the  Seas on Sunday , a new ship for us. Leaving  from Port Everglades  so only  a 20 minutes  drive. Really  looking  forward  to  some days  at sea.

Good morning, all Daily rabbits!  I haven't posted for a few days, busy thinking about other things, but I'm happy to see that @mamaofami's Sam is home, if tired.   And other good news, too, negative tests flying, and cruises starting up!

I have decided to start a thread about our cruise on Eurodam, although the cruise doesn't start until next Wednesday, people are already heading for Europe, and I'm hoping others on the roll calls will post about their experiences in the different countries we will be visiting.  But mainly about the ship, perhaps a bit of food porn?  If I have problems posting from the ship, Jacqui has kindly said she will help out!

Ontario in general is big into the automotive industry.  For a long time Ontario was leading producer of cars and light trucks in North America, surpassing Michigan and Ohio, considered the top auto states.  The reasons I gleaned were due to research and development costs and healthcare costs.   I haven't checked lately, so I don't know the status, but even if Ontario isn't leading, it is in the top three.

Good Afternoon All, thanks for the daily report.  I’ll pass on today’s meal suggestion.  We will be having lasagna for dinner tonight, with some wine of course.  This has been an incredibly busy week at work. I hope that everyone has a good day today and stays healthy.

Good morning everyone and Happy Friday and Happy October!  When I woke up my first thought was that it was Saturday but quickly remembered it wasn’t. 🤣  Thank you for the Daily Rich.

Great days today. I’m drinking my one cup of iced coffee while I read the Daily and catch up on emails. So excited about those who are sailing!  Next week will be busy for us preparing to sail. Somehow Linda @lindalerarranged for Seth to stop by and say hi to our roll call. I’ll try and get a picture. 😉

Bon Voyage @aliaschief!  Enjoy that PS and the Panama Canal.  ⛴

Thank you for your lists Roy. Prayers to those on the Care list.  Extra prayers for @AncientWanderer’s friend. Thank you for adding my DM to the Celebratory list, she definitely is what I would consider elderly at 92. She loves to tell people her age just so they are surprised at how good she looks.

I love catfish but hate frying anything because of the mess. Even shallow frying is messy. Craig wants more salmon so I’ll make some more and maybe some white fish, I think I have some cod in the freezer. He just told me that he has lost 16 pounds since he started his diet. I’m not a fan of dieting but that sure is impressive.

Yesterday I had problems with Safari and Chrome on my iPhone with CC so had to clear the browser again. I hate that that’s the only fix. I like having multiple tabs open, especially when I’m researching something. Lately we’ve been researching restaurants in San Diego and San Francisco for our cruise. So having to clear everything is frustrating.

Have a great day everyone!
