I have nothing against cigar or pipe smoke, but find cigarette smoke disgusting!
Walking in to the casinos reminds me of getting on a smoking carriage on the London Underground Tube! RUN!, whilst holding your breath to get to the next carriage.

I don't draw the line for any tobacco product as the stench is bad from all of them. I guess I'm an egalitarian when it comes to smoking.

I'm pretty sure some of the same people defending cigarette smoking in the casino would have a fit if they suddenly let you smoke weed in there

Hmm, second hand/contact high. 😁✌️

Hmm...I'm anti-cigarette smoke, but a little weed freshner sounds good.  Bring plenty to share please.

How difficult could it be to split the casino and separate it with a wall?
Most of them are HUGE!
One casino for smokers, the other for non smokers.
Everyone would be happy.

Correct! Many years ago. That is why I  can't believe Royal STILL hasn't changed their casino policy.

Smoking in England is officially down to about 13% and in London that figure would be much lower again  as basically the further north you go in England the more people smoke.  The tube banned smoking in July 1984 but at least you could avoid it by not going in the separate smoking car, it was smoking in planes that got me.  I had one flight back from Taiwan and they had let my reserved non smoking seat go when I checked in but said I would have another one on the plane.  I found myself in the smoking section with a non smoking sign on the top of my seat cover.

Not difficult at all.  Norwegian does this w/ the Joy, Bliss, Encore, etc.  Everyone is indeed happy.

One of the last smoking flights I was on was 1994 to Europe.  No seats in non-smoking, so we were in the smoking section.

And all these people would come back from non-smoking to stand in the aisle in the smoking section to smoke.

*****?! if you plan on smoking, book a smoking seat and let the non-smokers have the non-smoking seats.

Delta stopped smoking on board over the next year, so no more.

  • 2 weeks later...

Worst flight ever was a 12 hour  flight to Thailand. seemed we were in a storm the whole way.
There was smoking at the rear of the aircraft, and smoking in the front (maybe 1st class)
So in fact there was smoke filling the whole plane.

Unfortunately yes. No smoking is allowed anywhere on ships departing from the UK and Australia.

Is there somewhere on the web site that I can locate this info? We will be leaving from Southampton and would love it if there was no smoking onboard.

There is no INTERIOR smoking allowed on the sailings. The casino is smoke free. Smoking on the pool deck and other exterior decks is the same as any cruise.

My vote would be to exchange casino smoking with balconies again. Spread it out and only keep it  outdoors. As a non-smoker I was never bothered by a smoking neighbor. Plenty of fresh air on a moving ship to keep everyone happy. Although I know the smell/scent is a strange trigger for some people.

Except for the fire on the Sun Princess which was caused by a lit discarded cigarette which landed on another balcony where towels were drying.  I believe the people in that cabin died.

I'm not a smoker and really don't like it but tolerate it in the Casino.  I don't spend a tonne of time there.  What I would like is they require people who are smoking to actually be playing. That way it would at least minimize the amount of smoke in the Casino and perhaps limit the amount that floats into other areas connected to the casino.

No.  The passengers in that cabin did NOT die.  There was one fatality:  a man who had a cardiac incident and it was blamed on the stress of the mustering and standing outside, etc.

But this was the STAR Princess after the fire:  (not Sun)

Cigarette eyed as cause of cruise blaze

Thanks for the correction.  It was horrific anyway you look at it.

It works for Celebrity and now Carnival has nonsmoking casinos on three of their ships. RCI will probably follow as the smoking population dwindles.

The casinos on those ships are still smoking casinos. In addition to the main casino they turned the convention center on Dream, Magic & Breeze, into a non smoking casino.
