Cigarette smoke on your aft facing balcony from the new crew smoking ar

Oh, the joy of aft balconies with smoke, soot, prop vibration, cavitation vibration, and an annoying shimmy at certain speeds.  While others love these issues we prefer to be far forward on ships away from those issues.

That’s great, that keeps the ship balanced. My only complaint is the cigarette smoke and the hangers rattling the last night because my clothes aren’t hanging on them. I fixed that with a bath towel. 😊 Aft lover forever.

You are 100% correct, All of these things all the time.  And now cigarette smoke, You are one less person trying for these coveted cabins.  Thank you.

I must be such a fool to keep looking at cruises as soon as they are announced so I can beat the rush.

This looks terrible in writing. It is all said tongue in cheek. We love the Wake View cabins, some people don't.  That's all O.K.  But we all have common ground in that we all enjoy cruising.

Maybe some time we'll meet and have a drink on our balcony. Like the one I'm on now, no smoke, soot, or vibration.

Cheers

Just slide all of the hangers together at the end of the closet. That works for us.

Another Aft lover for ever.

There seems to always be that one in the middle of the night though.  I put a towel through them.

If this is a corporate decision, then they can also create a policy that there will be no smoking in the casino.  Make half the aft for crew and the other half for passengers (or wherever they have designated as passenger smoking area).  This will at least create a pleasant environment for those who do not smoke.  A "safe" haven in the casino and Piazza area where smoke "escapes" from the casino.

And what about the Royal Class ships that have no Aft promenade.  Where are the crew smoking?

Thank you @Ronniesladyfor keeping us updated

Did Jan even get to read the email?  I think your concerns should at least have reached upper management before being forwarded to Customer Relations.  Valiant effort on your part for all of "us" passengers.

Not  really sure if Jan  actually did read it or not, but I did send out  a reply to that email. I will post it below.  Also I was wondering the same about the Royal Class ships & where are they smoking ??.     Please post if anyone knows ???

Here’s what I said in that reply back:::::

So what you are telling me is your upper Management cares more about the crew having a great place to smoke 24 hours a day everyday , (out of the wind) while Covid is going on, than the higher paying passengers having to breath in second hand smoke from their balconies.  And on the Grand there’s no just certain times, they can do this, like the Emerald & Ruby are doing.  As a Stockholder I thought you would be more concerned with getting more passengers & income.

It absolutely makes  no sense .
Please pass this on to the proper department, the President of Princess. We would really like to hear this so called great decision straight from him.
I will be waiting for his response regarding this

Most cruises, I just put them all on the floor after we pack. Then I put them all back up the following morning so that's one less thing for the steward to do.

Update on PCL website health protocols today.  The only change I could see…

No smoking in the casino.

Anyone else notice an update?

UPDATED: What enhanced health protocols will you have in the Casino?

Our Casino will resume with enhanced and frequent sanitation of all high-touch surfaces, including table game positions, slot machines, and cashier areas. Smoking will not be permitted in the Casino.

Casino dealers will wear Personal Protective Equipment including face shields.

That’s a big change.  I always hold my breath if I have to go through it or avoid it totally.  I may gamble now. 😷

I found this under update.  Wonder when it was updated?  Would appreciate any passengers on board a ship now to report that there is no smoking in the casino.

@PacnGoNowthank you so much for posting the new information about no more smoking in the casino. I am sure I was not the only one to relay in the end of cruise survey how disgusting the smoke was in the entire piazza area on decks 5 thru 7 were for the entire last two days of my last sailing. I also wrote to customer relations. I’m back on the Ruby again for 20 days in January thru February so it is indeed wonderful news that at least the inside smoking has been addressed.

FYI for those looking for lines with no indoor smoking at all check out Azamara, Celebrity and viking ocean. Also Queen Mary 2 has no smoking in the casino or elsewhere indoors. There is a cigar lounge, Churchill’s that is tucked away in the front of the ship way up on deck 9.  It is out of the way from most areas most passengers use. So I consider it just as good as no indoor smoking.

No problem!  I thought of you and your past posts!  So glad you saw this one.

We are all getting our hopes up.  Princess, please do not fail us.  Give us something to look forward to.  I wish I felt more confident that this will be an enforced policy.  There's very little I trust with Princess, these days.

Whether it is enforced or not, it likely is not a permanent change.  It is to require masks while in the casino, which could not be enforced with smoking allowed.

On most ships Churchills is right at the entrance to the casino and with the door opening and closing lots of smoke permeates the area

@memoakI think you misunderstood my post. The Churchill’s I referenced is on Cunard & the QM2 in particular. Churchill’s on QM2 is no where near their non smoking  casino nor most other commonly used areas like the MDRs.

What you are referring to I believe is Princesses Speakeasy (Ruby), Snookers (Grand) or………….. cigar lounges which are near the casinos and the lower entrances to the theater. Yes these lounges on Princess  do leak horribly. On the QM2 I’ve never noticed the same problem but then I don’t go up there much as it really is out of the way.

Are you aware of outdoor smoking areas (crew or passengers) on Viking Ocean? Thx

Yes. I have not personally sailed but from their website and from reading their forums there is one area outside on the ships where smoking is allowed. I can live with that.

Yes,  and I’m sure that area is not under the Aft Full Suites like it is on the Grand right now.     Such a shame for the lack of their caring about their Full Suite Passengers.

I am SO sorry. What is Princess thinking? Oh, they are not. There are many of us who treasure our aft balconies. As an aft fan, you have my sympathy.

Wahhhhhh,  I have a 15 day Hawaii cruise in aft facing cabin C753 (Caribe) and a 10 day to Alaska in E731 (Emerald).  The Emerald deck which is on deck 8 is the one I''m most concerned about because it is smack dab above the smoking area.   Do any of you know if there is a smoke issue in either of these 2 cabins?    Both are on the Ruby.

I did a Princess chat yesterday asking if there was still a crew smoking section of deck 7 aft and was only given the standard verbiage of where the public smoking areas are.
