DW has the kitchen duties tonight but I’m a pretty good cook when it’s my time at the stove. For her it’s a time of relaxation and unwinding from her Senior Director duties. She will finally retire in March as our travel plans far exceed her vacation time!

Nothing special planned for the weekend but Sunday I’ll be watching the NASCAR Championship from Phoenix Raceway.

Thanks for the Daily Fleet Report and contributions.

Cadiz a lovely place.

The first time we visited Cadiz was 12/7/2007 during a TA (our first of 19 TA's) from Barcelona to Miami on =X= Century.  We took a ship tour to the white village of Arcos de la Frontera.100_2111.thumb.jpg.257bb0af209419c66666cf334a7b618d.jpg

On 12/01/2011, we called upon Cadiz for the second time.  This was during a TA from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale on =X= Solstice.  This time we were with another couple and took the ho-ho tour then  just walked around (following the colored lines) then stopped for tapas and drinks in front of the Cathedral.

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  We don't have any gunpowder, haven't ever celebrated Guy Fawkes, and if you've seen some of the things DH has made over the years it would make you turn to your phone to either call for reservations or take-out.  Among our friends, he's known as "The Sardine Soup Guy", or "The Sherried Pork & Beans Guy".  On the other hand, when I was sick, he knew enough not to mess around and did a pretty good job of making packaged chicken noodle soup and crackers.  LOL

We've been to Cadiz 3 times and enjoyed our days on each one - every time we've stopped, we've had good weather, have seen different things and enjoyed having lunch in the beautiful square in front of the cathedral.  Two days ago, had we been on the Eurodam, we would have been at Cadiz.  Next year!

A busy day in the offing - we both went through closets yesterday and ended up with another 6 large bags worth of clothing to drop off to the Salvation Army store.  Then it's over to my DSIL's to leave a pot of stew for her, as she's recovering from a medical procedure.  From there we are on our way to an inner city school to present them with 125 knitted toques to help get their students through the winter.  I purchase yarn whenever it's on sale, and in the evenings while watching tv or driving in the countryside, knit toques.  I can knit a single toque in an evening, and on long drives (when we visit our family in Calgary) can whip up 2 or 3.  Here's what 125 toques look like spread out on our sofa.

Toques.JPG.c2e16b9d724b43fa2f678e6c7668ba46.JPG

Today's menu sounds like a typical Greek lemon garlic shrimp, just with the addition of garlic rice.  We don't have shrimp often, but I'll certainly look to making this the next time we do.  Tonight is pizza night for us, so we'll be checking the local pizza places to see what looks good to bring home for dinner.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Extra prayers for special friends in need.  We'll raise the glasses and clink together to celebrate all on the happy list.   Stay safe, be well, wash your hands and wear your masks.

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Wow, that's a lot of toques!!  And so pretty too.  I would be happy to wear any of them.  So nice of you to do that.  They must be very appreciated.

Good morning.  Men make Dinner happens here often since my hubby retired many years before I did and has gotten used to cooking.  I'll await Graham's description of Guy Fawkes.  I really like the King quote.

It has been raining all night and will continue for the whole day.  Good day to go through another box and pitch or donate.  The meal sounds wonderful.  Have not been to Spain.

Prayers and toasts for our lists.

Stay safe, social distance, and wear your mask.

Florida Sunrise:

The Florida Sunrise is an American variation of the classic Tequila Sunrise drink. An orange drink made from rum, pineapple juice and Rose's grenadine, and served over ice in a highball glass.
Ingredients
2 oz White Rum
1/2 oz Grenadine (Rose's)
Pineapple Juice
Glass: Highball Glass
Directions
Fill a highball glass with ice.
Add rum and nearly fill with pineapple juice.
Pour grenadine in the center, and allow to settle before serving.

Thank you for the TGIF Daily, Rich.  Most every day is men make dinner day for me.  Gun powder was a real game changer.  I expect @grapau27 will give us the real deal on Guy Fawkes Day.  Great MLK quote.  I think I've been to Cadiz once.  I'll pass on the shrimp.  My alternative is Garden Bounty, Breaded Lamb Chops, and Pineapple Crisp which I would have chosen on MS Prinsendam if I had not been in the Pinnacle Grill.

April, 2015, saw us again in Cadiz while crossing from Civitavecchia to Fort Lauderdale on Pacific Princess.  This was a segment of her World Cruise.  Also was the first time we did a sort of B2B TA's by sailing from Fort Lauderdale to Venice on Island Princess for her repositioning to the Med which ended on 4/7 then making our way to Civi to pick up the Pacific on 4/10.

This time we decided to just walk around.  Visited the market, checked out the Cadiz Museum (free) ground floor which is the archaeological floor, and had drinks on the square (of course).

The last time in Cadiz was November 7, 2019.  This was the TA portion of our 32 Day Holy Land & Journey to the New World on Rotterdam VI.  Little did we know this was also our last cruise to-date. 😪

This time we had to have our drinks at a different cafe, but still on the square.

Good morning, all, I slept in a little longer this morning, and got up at 7,  had some breakfast and did my emails.  Now I am here, off and on for the rest of the day!  (While we are isolating, at any rate...)  Pat is cooking tonight - a steak on the barbecue.  The only other thing he cooks is boiled eggs.

Thank you, Rich, Roy, Jacqui and everyone!  The lists, sayings,  food and drinks, are  all so interesting.  My mother and my father had differing opinions on Guy Fawkes (Daddy, Protestant, my mother, Catholic)!

We have been to Cadiz a few times, from there we have visited the white villages and Seville, but Cadiz itself is really nice, easy to walk around with the markings in the road.

We adore Cadiz.  We have also been to Seville but really enjoy being in the oldest city in Western Europe.  It’s charm has withstood the test of time 👍  Lots of great pics of Cadiz so I will try to show a few that haven’t been shown yet - definitely different 😉

It was Palm Sunday when we were there so DH and I headed to a small square with a lovely local church to watch some of the celebration:

The man in the red cone is a petitioner - they come to beg forgiveness.  I really hate that the KKK copied the design so much as the one in Spain is really religious.

Cadiz - one of our favourite things about this city is an authentic flamenco taberna.  They bring in top performers from all over Andalucia.  Flamenco was born in Andalusia and it’s not like the Flamenco you see in Barcelona.  It’s much better 😉

We’re very fortunate that we started arranging private shows many years ago as our requests are still honoured and we are treated like long lost friends when we bring our group 🙂

The stage at our taverna:

And some pics of our performers.

No the pic is not out of focus.  The dancers move so fast that it’s hard to get a focused pic but I will share anyways so that you get a sense.  Look for the expressions on their faces.

The male dancer was probably the best we have ever seen in all of our years of Flamenco.  He was absolutely amazing.  The ladies were fabulous of course too.  One had a flower in her hair and was dancing so hard it came out on the floor.  A roll call member quickly picked it up to prevent an accident and passed it back to her after her performance.

It’s a lovely walk back to the Prinsendam from the taverna.

Good morning all from a very wet PNW. I think we've had enough rain, it can stop any time as far as I'm concerned!   It sounds like FL is getting a lot of rain too!  Yesterday it almost looked like sleet at one point, but I don't think it was cold enough.

DH makes a fantastic omelette and bbq, but that's about it.  Oh, and he does very well at take-out!  😉

My first thought when I read the quote was about our staircase discussion yesterday.

I love lemon garlic anything, and lemon garlic shrimp is my favorite way to prepare shrimp.  The drink sounds good, will pass on the red wine.

We've been to Cadiz a few times, I think it's my favorite port in Spain.  We were there twice in 2019.  One day we did the HOHO and walked around, the other day we did a wine tasting and saw an Andalusian horse show.  Unfortunately we couldn't take photos during the performance (WOW what a performance, I could watch that all day) but I got a few photos of the horses after the show.

One day we walked to the Roman Theater

Did you go to the Royal Andalusian School in Jerez?  We did that one year and I was blown away 🙂. The horses (and riders) were incredible 👍

Good morning everyone and Happy Friday!  Thank you for the Daily Rich. Roy, thank you for the lists. Prayers to those on the Care list. I’m saddened by those who have passed. Prayers to their families and friends.

The past two days were busy with appointments for DM and plus because of my allergy headache I just didn’t have the energy to read the Daily. Fall allergies are worse for me. DM is doing great and the doctor gave her a good report. She will have a follow up CT in three months. She really has had no side effects from her radiation treatments. What a blessing.

Have a great day everyone!

We were in Cadiz in the spring of 2018 on the Koningsdam. We only saw the city from the ship and via the bus ride to Jerez for a sherry tasting/tour. Based on the pictures others have posted, we should have taken the time to wander about Cadiz too. But the sherry excursion was a lot fun!
