Rare NutsAboutGolf Posted December 1, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 1, 2021 I can't imagine I'm the first to ask this yet have been searching for 5mins. I'm on the Glory now which has Emeril's Steakhouse but I'm wondering fleet wide.
Rare Saint Greg Posted December 1, 2021 #2 Share Posted December 1, 2021 I have never had the steakhouse selection in the MDR but I have heard that it is not as good as the steakhouse because they don't have the equipment to cook the steak properly.

It's actually the same food, since they make it at the Steakhouse. When you order, they do tell you that it will take a little longer since it has to be cooked and sent down by the Steakhouse.
sunonfire Posted December 1, 2021 #4 Share Posted December 1, 2021 I ordered on the Miracle and it tasted the same as the steakhouse. We eat the first night at the steakhouse. Later in the week my son was given a casino offer for 4 steakhouse steaks in the main dining room. The steaks were great.

Kind of hard on the ships without a steakhouse (like the few remaining Fantasy class ships).

Rare sparks1093 Posted December 1, 2021 #8 Share Posted December 1, 2021 I had the filet mignon in the MDR for the $20 surcharge once. I was underwhelmed, although as a cut of meat it was easily worth the $20. It wasn't as tender as I expect filet mignon to be. We went to the steakhouse on our recently completed cruise on Legend and while it was a different cut of meat the NY strip was excellent, cooked perfectly and everything you would expect from the steakhouse. I shied away from the filet because of my prior experience but I'm thinking that I should give it a try when we're on Legend in February. (DW loved her filet mignon but she had it cooked medium well, so I won't talk about that anymore.) 1

bluesea4me Posted December 2, 2021 #11 Share Posted December 2, 2021 Your question leads me to mine as I was wondering the same thing......but the only reason I was going to go to the steakhouse was to try a wagyu (sp?) steak. 1. can you tell the difference between that and a good steak at the steakhouse....or any other steak for that matter? This is true on Princess. One time I ordered something from the Crown Grill menu in the MDR and noticed it tasted pretty different. The headwaiter informed me they are prepared differently in the MDR when compared to Crown Grill and suggested that I ask for it to be prepared in the steakhouse going forward and delivered to the MDR. Since then, the request has been accommodated each time. Sadly, the Crown Grill Selects are not currently offered in the MDR, at least on the Regal Princess. At the Carnival steakhouse, I didn't notice a difference between their wagyu (Australian, I believe) and the normal steaks they offer. I'd be curious to know what their steaks are rated at as far as marbling goes. Having had my first certified A5 Japanese Wagyu at a Jeff Ruby steakhouse a few weeks ago, I now get the hype - I had a very visceral response to the first bite. It's unlike any other steak I've ever tasted, and absolutely worth the triple-digit price tag. You definitely won't get that high quality beef at Carnival's steak house.
DrSea Posted December 2, 2021 #14 Share Posted December 2, 2021 I am going on the carnival radiance later this month. In the MDR, is there a flat iron steak on the menu every night like in the past? I just got off of a princess cruise and was very surprised to not see a nightly steak option included in the fare in the MDR.

I loved the filet in the steak house but not the Mdr steak. I'm kinda picky. I'm sure now that I said I didnt like it others will post it was fine.
nwcruiselover Posted December 2, 2021 #18 Share Posted December 2, 2021 I agree that the MDR nightly steak isn’t a very good cut of meat. It’s pretty tough and grisly. I really appreciate a good steak, and this isn’t one of those.
TravelGirlinDallas Posted December 2, 2021 #19 Share Posted December 2, 2021 I used to like the flat iron steak, but what I had on the Dream in September wasn't that, and it wasn't good at all. I like the MDR food overall, but don't order the (free) steak.

Just fyi, true wagyu is delicious and is only served in <10 locations in the entire united states. Many of the wagyu is "wagyu style" or something to that effect. A beef option is better than no beef option. I was on the regal princess last week. There wasn't a beef option for every meal, and I have left the MDR hungry 2/5 days, which I didn't think I would ever say on a cruise ship ever. I've seen bad reviews on the wagyu so I was glad both times I stuck to surf n turk. Loved mine. My friends ordered it in the MDR as they had lots of obc from a casino promo and enjoyed it in the Mdr enough to order it more than once. 2

Many of the wagyu is "wagyu style" or something to that effect. This! Before we moved to our current location, we had a Alexander's steak house down the street at the Vallco mall and they were on the coveted list that offered true wagyu and they weren't cheap for the top cuts. The triple digit price points per steak, coupled with the limited availability, pretty much guarantee that most of the wagyu sold isn't true wagyu. A lot of folks are being misled. Reminds me of the whole Angus beef charade that was mostly a marketing tool.
