So if the theatre was crowded, you'd be happy to see me sitting next to you?  Would you feel any different than you would have felt pre-Covid?

If the theatre was full, no big deal.

If the theatre was empty, I'd be wondering what's wrong with someone with no sense of personal space, would be giving you looks behind your back, and would talk smack about you on the way out of the theatre 🙂

It will be interesting to see how many people feel like you.

More than a few I am sure.  Doing something like you said, sitting right next to someone in an open venue where socially responsible respect for someone’s personal space is possible just seems very inconsiderate to me, COVID or no COVID.

Well, with contact tracing now, I wouldn't want to get caught up in that so I would prefer not having anyone next to me. 😉   If that couldn't be avoided then I likely wouldn't go in.

My October '21 cruise, when we went in the theatre we sat up top in the back.  There were others around but not many and not close.  😉

If it was pre-covid in a packed theatre and you sat next to me and started hacking and sneezing, I wouldn't have wanted to stay there next to you.  It would have skeeved me out then just as it would now. 😉

Agree, just common sense.

For the record, I never asked the question based on an open theatre.  For the record, I don't want to sit next to you in an uncrowded venue.  😉  The basis of the question was are you ready to go back to pre-Covid behavior.  If you are ready to sit next to me and other strangers in a crowded theatre or bar and it really doesn't bother you, good for you.  I'm not sure most people are ready for that.

Since we ordered our masks, for our cruise in 2 weeks, prior to the changing of the policy...

We will take them w/ us, in case they are needed.

Our hope is cases will continue to decrease/dip & we hit the timing just right - so we will not need them!

We still wear them on medical visits/shopping trips to Anchorage.

Anchorage just dropped their mask mandate - but masks are still required in all Medical Facilities.

And - we also wore them shopping - as we do not want to catch anything b/4 we get on the ship for SUN, Warmth & Relaxation!!!

I am on the Edge now.  On the walking track on deck at about 8 am.  A beautiful morning.  A couple,, appeared to be in their 30’s and much fitter than I, put in their KN 95 masks when they walked past me and then took them off.  Really????

It isn't a matter of comfort or being ready for it in my opinion until they drop the close contact rules or better yet ignore it completely like we do a common cold or even the flu. We didn't want to take a chance when we were onboard recently of being stuck in our room because someone we don't know tested positive and happened to be near us.

We have been on 17 cruises now and I don't ever remember us sitting at a bar to drink and we almost always have sat in the back of the theatres on the upper decks where few sit so we can exit without disturbing anyone if we don't like the show. So I guess for us nothing has changed. The only thing my wife missed was the random conversations with people next to us at dinner.

Today was the first day at work the masks were dropped, it was nice to actually see everyone again.

I personally think that anyone who has been strictly wearing masks for 2 plus years has a very weakened immunity system..my personal Dr. Feels this way also. Some of these posts seem to bear this out..

I think this is rather a sweeping statement.  So are you saying that those who never wear a mask have better immunity?  Of course this is rubbish. There are all kinds of reasons why some people have better immunity than others.

Otherwise pity our poor medical staff who for their whole working life wear masks and who work closely with people with all sorts of communicable viruses . Hope your Dr wears a mask when appropriate.

All mask mandates have been lifted in the UK,  but I will use my own judgement and current health condition to make a decision if I wear a mask in a crowded indoor space. I certainly will not make a judgement on anyone wearing a mask after the last two years

I've actually seen people do this while driving...often wondered why. Perhaps a rental or else not belonging to them for whatever reason, or perhaps due to whomever recently rode along with them.

I frequently do this as I do not want to be searching around or say 'I forgot it'... since I Am in and out of a few high risk places each day.

There were a few times when I did forget my mask and scrambled to find one..

And would that happen in Italy now?  How old was the report?  Things are changing.  That's how cruising is going to recover.  If cruises have to keep the strict protocols in all locations when other forms of travel and vacation do not, it will not survive.

Methinks cruising will survive with 'stricter' protocols as there are many of us who want to hit the decks regardless and will comply vs fellow passengers who do not wish to.

Keeping us safe(r) when others will not, is a positive (not the virus, LOL)...

Perhaps one of them has a compromised immune system…
Perhaps one or both of them presently still feel unsafe after lockdown to be near others…

Their right to wear a mask if they feel more comfortable/safe with it.

I will definitely have my mask with me on my next cruise and I will put it on in the lift and any other confined spaces. Everyone has their own comfort levels.

I think this is a good question and for me time will tell. We have witnessed three different variants of Covid over the last there years. One more virulent and one less virulent than the original. If over the next death and illnesses caused by covid remain at the level of the flu I will take the precautions that I do when exposed to the f;u. I will continue to take my injections and wear a mask at the height of the season in very confined places. One positive result of my mask wearing is that I have never avoided so much illness in my life, both serious and just colds. I used to think seeing all those people from Asian countries with masks on planes as strange, Not so much anymore.

Thank you for answering my questions.😀

I have avoided commenting on this thread but...here I go.  😅

I have always thought it's absolutely  ridiculous/hysterical about masks and restaurants/drinking establishments.   You take it off to eat and drink but have to put it on to walk out or go to the bathroom.  I guess invisible covid blocking walls go up around everyone while maskless at a table or bar but disappear when you stand up?!?  🤔

Personally, it should be up to each of us what we choose to do.  If you want to wear a mask, wear one. If you don't, then don't.  If you do wear one, at least have an N95 that fits properly.

Since I did decide to comment here... I will answer the question asked.  No, I will not wear a mask.

I may not wear masks while out and about but that doesn't mean I am not careful.  I am, I always have been regarding hygiene.  I also don't put myself around large groups or stand close to people. So, just because I don't wear a mask, doesn't mean I am careless, I am far from it.

In October '21 when we cruised, we all agreed if masks were required on the ship, we would not go.  Thankfully they were not required.   My next cruise, again, hopefully the mask mandate stays away.

🍹

All sensible to me.😀

FYI, there's Social Distancing at the State of the Union address but no Social Distancing in the Celebrity theatre, bars and restaurants.  I guess Congress isn't as comfortable without masks as many Celebrity cruisers.

Good to mix politics and masking here on CC.  Nice way to go to the naughty room.😀

Yes BIG risk of catching the virus by briefly walking past you on an open outdoor deck on a windy cruise ship.  Didn't you know?😀

It’s possible that they were trying to be considerate of you. Wearing a mask does not necessarily mean that people are fearful of getting sick. They may want to keep others from getting sick.

I just spent another weekend maskless at a big Atlantic City casino. I’m double vaxxed and double boosted and I had a positive PCR test in December despite having no symptoms. I have several risk factors for severe Covid but I’m not afraid anymore. I believe I have strong immunity and I’m willing to be unmasked in crowded spaces if masks are optional.

As I write this I’m masked along with everyone else on a packed commuter bus to NYC. I have no problem wearing a mask when required and it’s nice to know the woman coughing 3 rows behind me has a mask on.
If there’s a mask requirement on my cruise it wouldn’t deter me from having a good time. I’d prefer no masks but I’m not cancelling my vacation unless I or my wife have Covid or the situation worsens in the next 7 months.
I’m ready and willing to go on a maskless cruise in October but if someone is coughing near me I’ll be wondering if they’re spreading Covid or other germs my way. Maybe everyone who has a cold should wear a mask when out and about. Is that really a bad idea to protect people around you?

Some people have become so defiantly against masks they’ve stopped caring about other people. That’s wrong.
