Is today Pauline's birthday?  What a lovely luncheon (or dinner) to celebrate!  Happy birthday Pauline! 🎂🎉 Mine is close to yours - Friday!  I share mine with a twin though.  I always say I'm a year older than her because I celebrated two days in a row crossing over the International Dateline!😂

Good morning from sunny and windy Quartzsite.  It will be another hot day today with the high somewhere in the 90sF.  It's a good day for indoor projects.

My father and DFIL were in the Army during WWII, and DH was in for 2 years at the request (?) of Uncle Sam.  DH is a mechanical engineer, so I'll also celebrate Global Day of the Engineer along with celebrating paraprofessionals.

The Winston Churchill quote is very true.

We like the meal with lettuce and bacon added to the sandwich.  We won't be having it tonight, but probably one day soon.  We'll pass on the drink and the wine which sounds nice but pricey.

We have been to Cadiz a number of times.  We've also been to Seville at least twice, but maybe three times.  I'll look to see what pictures I posted previously.

@JAM37  Julia, I'm glad your DH tested negative, but I agree another test might be in order if he's not better in a day or two.  Congratulations on booking your first Celebrity cruise.

@cunnorl  Good luck in getting your Flight Ease issue straightened out.

@mamaofami  Carol, I am so happy the new aide, Kate, is working out.  Good luck at bingo.

@ger_77  Gerry, I'm glad the storms missed you.

@AncientWanderer  Maxine, that is good news that you were not seriously hurt in your fall.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, I'm glad your flight finally took off and made it safely to Spain.  Now you can relax and enjoy your time in Spain, your cruise and your time in Rome.

@grapau27  Graham, what a lovely picture of two lovely ladies.  🎈💐 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PAULINE 🍾🥂

I'm enjoying all the pictures of Cadiz and Seville that have been posted.  Now, I'll go look for my pictures.

Today is a nice mix of days.   We have to be grateful for the Army and all of our armed forces to keep us free.  Closest Army service was DF who lucked out and served in the Guard for 6 years during the Viet Nam conflict.   My first husband was in the Army as a door gunner in a Huey in Viet Nam.   He was messed up from that for a long time.   Lots of drinking and pot smoking to forget our wounded and dead and fighting their way in to get our troops out.  Thanks to our engineers who make everything work for us and continue to make things better.    Paraprofessionals are great I get a lot of my health care from them.

Last night on the Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell he had Sean Penn on to talk about his time spent in Ukraine.  Today's quote fits the gist of what he had to say about Zelensky, "he was born to it".   He has had the courage to continue and motivate his people by example.   Churchill embodied "courage to continue".

I love a good tomato sandwich with a lot of mayo and some bacon and lettuce.  I grow tomatoes in porch pots and I can't wait until they ripen in August.  I will pass on the highball.  The wine is another of the chateaus we visited in 1996.   We came home from Ducru and started buying their wine on futures.  I think the first case we bought on futures was the 1995 at $36 a bottle.  Most is still in the cellar.  We brought a bottle on the NS when we cruised earlier this year and enjoyed it a Rudi's.  HA has the 2014 on their list for $425.  I have never been to Cadiz.

Today was a new garden club meeting so I am behind today.

My late husband and I at Ducru Beaucaillou in 1996.  Ribeye dinner at Rudi's.

Paulines birthday was March 13th on the ship.

This was the first time that we were able to meet up.

We had delicious starters and this was our mains.

These are the pictures I posted on November 5, 2021.

We have been there four times.  Twice we went into Seville, once by train and once by transfer.  The other two times we stayed in Cadiz and wandered around.

These are some of our pictures from 2017 on the Prinsendam as she was headed to Ft. Lauderdale.

We started our day walking through Cadiz on the way to Parque Genoves and Castillo de Santa Catalina.  On the way, we passed the Gran Theatro Falla.  We also passed many of the places already pictured.

Our next stop was the Castillo de Santa Catalina which is an interesting old fort.  The first picture is the promenade approaching the fort.

Good afternoon Dailyites!  I got my "tests" to the doctors this morning, got some grocery shopping done with DH, got the neighbor's dog walked, the trash can up the hill, and worked for an hour, (i was trying to connect with one customer who had asked me to call him back, and he got lost in a computer vortex with Hollywood Bowl)  and rushed to get the computer before DH did.

@dfish What were the questions asked about Cushings Disease?  When I went in for the blood tests, I asked the phlebotomist  why all the blood?  And she said something about Cushings Disease, but if I had it the doc would tell me.   So far, the only thing the doc has told me is that the blood tests showed nothing, but the urine tests will show something else, if i have something else.  So I kind of want to know what they asked you.  My doc just said I shouldn't do research at the Mayo site on line.

I don't start working my TODAY  campaign until 5 and then I will work til 10.  Wednesday night is good for that as DH runs out to visit with a friend of his on Wednesdays.  And he brings me Chic Fil A home for dinner.  I can eat and dial at the same time, no one really talks to me.

We are leaving Fawn on the porch, as she really has no energy to go anywhere, I wish she was a bit tamer and I would get her to the vet.

I love tomato sandwiches, but they have to be a ripe beefsteak (not a blob of seeds) on white bread with Hellman's mayo, salt and lightly peppered.  If I cant get the bread or the right tomato, it'll be a BLT.

In the early 80's I was a paraprofessional for two years.  The first year, I worked with a program called Fountain Valley, where we went from school to school in one district and tested the kids.  This was to see how well the teachers were actually teaching.  What this project did was change they way the school system did tenure.  Because there were some bad teachers out there.

The second year I worked as an assistant in the Kindergarten class.  Full day, and the head teacher got very ill, and was on so many drugs, that she was pretty much a zombie during the second half of the year.  Which left it to me to take over a lot of the teaching.  This was not an affluent neighborhood, the kids came to school sick all the time, a lot of the parents were drug addicts, and they didn't' want a sick child at home.  I had bronchitis from October to May, and happily walked away from that job, and went into insurance.  Where I did end up teaching a business letter writing class, and teaching sales agents how to sell Health Insurance( company started out as Life Insurance and branched out to health).without-my-pets-my-house-would-be-clean-and-my-137817.png

I found some pictures from Seville when we were there in 2009 on the Tahitian Princess.  That day, we took the transfer into Seville and did the Ho-Ho with time to walk around before catching the bus back to the ship.

These pictures are random pictures  of Seville that are not of the main tourist attractions.  Unfortunately, I don't remember the names of many of them.   I always enjoy the different architecture of the city.

Blood tests will tell if you are producing excess cortisol.  Also, a 24 hour urine test will also test for that.  He asked about excess hair on my face, easy bruising, leg cramps (low potassium), pink or purple stretch marks on the abdomen, and then there is the classic body shape for Cushing's, which, unfortunately, I now have.  But, if that is what it is, it can be treated.  Onward and forward!

Thanks for our Hump Day Daily, Rich.

Great collection of days - all well worthy of celebrating.

Love the quote by Churchill.  I’m trying to live by it and this one (although I am failing as of late).

65154894-B3EA-4E37-9E2B-1BA5F57981D7.thumb.jpeg.17299af265b18b686df7dd6dadea4125.jpeg

Love tomato sandwiches - great suggestion and Cadiz.  It’s one of my favourite ports - so much to see there and nearby and the Flamenco in Andalusia is fantastic 😉

Delighted to hear @Cruzin Terriis finally in Barcelona after their flight trials and tribulations.

Yikes @ancient warrior- Maxine I am glad (hope) you weren’t seriously hurt - please be careful.

@NextOne Edi - sorry I missed your birthday yesterday.  Best belated birthday wishes to you.

@mamaofamiI’m so happy to read continued good reports on your aide 👏 So happy for you.  It was long overdue.

Sorry, I’ve been missing from the Daily.  I just haven’t had the time (or is it the energy).  Tried to follow along at the hospital today but it’s difficult to post in gloves not to mention taking care of DH and posting at the same time 😉

I’ve been in a dark place for a few days.  I was so upset when I left the hospital a few days ago,  I was ready to spit nails I was so angry, crying as I was so sad and felt so helpless.  I reached out to a friend and got some strength and  I’ve been fighting with the hospital to advocate for Jose and while I have had some success, he is fading fast IMO.  I’m not going to bore you all with everything going on.

Today when I went in I wanted this skill (and yes it’s another Churchill quote)

E3919F8E-561C-4922-8B51-223B05F3558C.thumb.jpeg.d24aae407dce655df2eaee4eeda6029b.jpeg

I am all of these people right now:

My friends, enjoy every moment you have with those you love.  You don’t know what the future holds.  Whether it’s a sunset, a garden, a cruise, enjoy.  A friend sent me this and it is so true - Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.

I posted most of my pictures of Cadiz previously, but here are los ninos malos (the bad boys) in Cadiz - DH quickly bonded with our CC friend’s DH and they became best buddies.

And the famous monument where they were posing

Prayers for everyone on the Care list and for those that need them and 🥂 to those on the Celebratory / Shout Out list.

Have a great Wednesday everyone !!!!!

My closet for April 6 is pretty sparse with only two.  The better one is from my 2012 WE transatlantic but I posted it last year.  This is from my 2014 MS Amsterdam voyage from Cape Town to Fort Laluderdale.  April 6 was our last sea day between Walvis Bay and St. Helena:

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

A salute to the Army and those who serve or have served! Engineers are important in many ways to our society. Paraprofessionals' importance is vital to education. Great Churchill quote.

I've never had a "mater" sandwich, popular in the South; I do like BLTs. Pass on the drink. Can't afford the wine, although it sounds great.

I've been to Sevilla on a land trip.

I'm late today. I was searching online for a door closure piece of hardware for a vintage metal cabinet I have. No luck so far. Another rainy but warm day here. Still waiting to hear about getting my test on the hand done.

@Cruzin Terri I'm glad you were able to leave last night, after all that waiting. I'm sure you're exhausted.

@JAM37 I hope DH feels better soon.

@mamaofami It's good to hear that the new aide is working out.

@AncientWanderer Ouch on the fall! I'm glad nothing's broken. I dislocated my shoulder many years ago when I tripped and fell; had to have surgery for a torn labrum.

@smitty34877 Thanks for asking. Still somewhat painful with certain movements. I called again regarding the joint ultrasound. Only certain radiologists do it. Still waiting for another callback. And I just checked my Fios plan and found out I have Magnolia Network. I was watching Chip and Joanna this morning.

@kazu Prayers for Jose and for you. I'm so sorry everything is so hard at this time. Thanks for sharing the photo.

Prayers for the Care List and a Cheer for the Celebration List. Special prayers for Ukraine and its people. Stay safe everyone.

@kazu Jacqui, I'm sorry things are so rough right now, especially trying to get the hospital to provide the care that Jose needs.  I too am thankful that you are comfortable enough with your Daily family to share your frustrations, anger and sadness.  Please know that we all are thinking about both of you and hoping for the best possible outcome.  That is a great picture of the two guys.  You have so many happy moments and memories to treasure, and I hope they give you comfort.

@grapau27  Graham, thank for your kind comments.

@JazzyV  Vanessa. I hope you hear something soon about the tests for your hand.  Thank you for sharing your pictures.

We now have one less thing to worry about, since we e-filed our taxes and have already heard the IRS has accepted the return.

Thanks @marshhawk . I agree on your tomato sandwich recipe, beefsteak tomato, Hellmans mayo, s&p. This is my favorite summer lunch &/or dinner in the summer, BUT on Wonder Bread 🤪. Maybe it’s a childhood thing growing up in NYC but the bread makes zoo the difference when you can press it down. Thanks for the memory. Can’t wait until summer. Susan

Good afternoon everyone and Happy Wednesday!  I had dental work done this morning and was very stressed out about it because it was my two front teeth (one of them cracked). I have been putting this off for a long time but decided I needed to get it done before our Med cruise. I have two more appointments and should be done in three weeks.  Craig is getting me a McDonald’s milkshake for my lunch. Since this is a temporary crown I have to be really careful.

Glad @Cruzin Terrimade it to Barcelona.  Flights these days!!   😱

I'm off to the dermatologist today to do as many have here -- get weird things checked out.  Have we all had too much cruising sunshine on our skin?  Nope.  Can't get enough.  lol

I'm so happy that @dfishDebbie got a clean bill of health.  That brings a smile.

And for the Day of the Engineer, I'll honor my grandfather.  He was a civil engineer in Chicago who worked on highways and other public works, then went to the Philippines during WWII as a SeaBee commander to build installations in the Pacific.  He was quite a man.

Hoping everyone has a delightful Hump Day.  Thinking of all of you.  😊

Maxine!  Ouch!  Feel better.

The last time we were in Cadiz was during our honeymoon. Cadiz was a port stop on our cruise that started in Miami, crossed the Atlantic after some ports in the Caribbean, stopped at Madeira, then went on to Spain prior to ending in Lisbon where we spent an additional week after disembarkation.

I will never forget that Cadiz port stop. I have no pictures.  Only vivid memories.

We had taken an early excursion from Cadiz to Seville and had barely arrived there when we were suddenly herded back aboard our bus. We were told that our luncheon stop could not accommodate us, the planned folkloric dance troupe was also unavailable, and that we were headed back to the ship.  As we left Seville,  we noticed that barricades were being erected around various governmental buildings and by the time we reached Cadiz, there was an obvious security presence including police cars escorting our bus.

Little did we know that our American sense of safety had irreparably shifted that day -- April 19, 1995. It was only after our ship sailed, many hours earlier than scheduled, from Cadiz that the captain asked us all to gather in the showroom. He explained that there had been a horrendous bombing of a government building in Oklahoma City with untold numbers dead and uncertain knowledge of the perpetrators. With so much unknown, the cruise line had decided our safest place was at sea.

And, when the captain finished, my DH and I went up on deck, held each other tighter, watched the sunset over a very calm sea, and said a prayer for our country and for those whose lives had been forever changed.

We ended up booking our first Celebrity cruise for October 8th.

Congrats on booking your first Celebrity cruise.  We have many cruises on both the M & S class Celebrity ships.   I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about cruising with Celebrity. (We have not sailed on the Edge class so I cannot answer any questions about it).
