Today is our 34th Anniversary!

I think Mitzi and I would have both forgotten it except for a celebratory text from our son😬. We are still "recovering" (unpacking, doing laundry, scrounging food, going through 3 weeks of mail...) from our NS cruise, so we may delay celebrating for a day or two.

Here are a couple of pictures from the cruise. I will try to post more details later -

@AncientWanderer  Either Vermont, Maine, or Cape Cod in August.  Last year I was on Sanibel Island with DH and our BFF's,  and all of them were cursing me for having chosen August in Florida.  What can I say, after being in the house since February of 2020, I needed to get out.  They chose to come with me, they knew where they were going.  Oh, and for some reason, places to rent in August were lower in cost than what they are in April....I think sometimes my CC name should be The Cheap Traveler.😸

Happy birthday, Sandi! 🎊🎂🥳 @StLouisCruisers

@smitty34877 Terry, Camilla is so beautiful.

Like Bruce @aliaschief

I slept in this morning which is very unusual. (I couldn't get the cursor back I place. 🤷🏻‍♀️) I couldn't believe when I saw it was after 9:00.

DH was feeling pretty good yesterday so he decided he didn't need to continue the medication he's been taking. He also decided that it was a good idea to do some activities. Well, unfortunately, he was wrong. I would say he is getting better, but rest and medication through the weekend is probably best. Also having another test today. Thank you for your continued prayers.

So, taking care of DH, some housekeeping and regular hobbies will be what today and the weekend holds for me. 😀

Wishing everyone a fantastic Friday.

🙏 and 🎉 for those on our lists.

Julia, sorry your DH is being a stubborn man and not taking his meds.  I'm glad he is going to listen to you now!  Wives are always right!!

Thank you so much for the birthday greetings!  I've been getting texts all morning and a mid morning phone call.  Even the grandkids are remembering to text which is sweet.  Keeping me busy!

Good morning all!

After an absolutely gorgeous day of gardening yesterday (high of 74 F) now we'll have 6 days of rain/frozen mix/snow (!)  My poor flowers won't know what's going on.

I like all the versions of the "all is ours" that Graham posted, we go to the zoo often (Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo) with the grandsons, and there won't be any drawings of birds by me since you probably wouldn't be able to tell that they're birds 😉

A hard pass from me on the meal today.  Since I love Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc,  I would love to try the wine  But after an online check, neither our local Total Wine or BevMo carry it. 😞  Have never been to the port, thank you for any photos posted!

Thank you to all who voted on my dill poll yesterday!  Gosh, I knew I'd be in the minority, but never realized how much until now lol!  So far there are only 2 of us who do not like dill. DH tolerates it better than I do, but he agreed with me that it ruined the gyro for him.  I guess now I'll have to ask if there's dill in it before ordering. 😞  I'm just surprised we've never come across it before now.

We plan to put off getting our 2nd booster until closer to our next cruise, so in that case would get them in late summer/early fall.  I asked our DSIL and he said at his clinic they're recommending that unless you're immunocompromised, planning to travel soon, or a big "wave" is expected (I asked him how would we know??)  that we delay getting them.  Hopefully we're doing the right thing, I just want to be fully covered for our cruise in early October.  If I got it now, it would be waning by then...decisions!

@AncientWandererMaxine during the hottest days of August I would rather be right here at home!  Because our August here isn't as hot as other places are. Plus we're finally getting A/C in June!   But if not at home I'd like to be at the ocean (here in WA) or if on a cruise, to Alaska.

@StLouisCruisersSandi     Happy Birthday to you and your twin!!!!

@smitty34877Terry thank you so much for the latest photo of sweet, adorable Camilla.

@Overhead FredHappy Anniversary!!

@HeartgroveJack wow, I can't believe all the flight problems.  I hope your DW and DSIL enjoy their cruise to the fullest. 🙂

Thank you Rich for the Daily Report, thank you Roy for the Cares and Celebration Report, and thank you Debbie for today's recipes. And thank you all for being here!

Is there an equivalent to a "Staycation" for cruising? And lightening doesn't strike the same spot twice, right? We have had a crazy last two days with getting Sue and DSIL down to Ft. Lauderdale for their cruise on the Nieuw Statendam today.

A bit of a recap. Sue, DSIL and I were supposed to be on the Rotterdam this week. That was until SWA cancelled our flight for Saturday leaving us no alternative than to cancel the cruise. Skip ahead to Sue and DSIL now set five days later to cruise on the Nieuw Statendam starting today. I am staying home with Sam this time as the dogsitter is not available. So they booked flights on SWA to FLL - again. We could not believe that SWA cancelled their flight for Thursday this time as well! Wednesday evening Sue received an email about the cancellation. Jumped on the phone for a two-hour wait on hold to speak with a SWA rep. No luck but Sue was able to grab two of the last seats on a United flight from Dulles for Thursday evening. It required a bit of change in logistics.

They decided to ride our Virginia-sponsored Megabus to the airport rather than drive and park. Good thing as it was a very rainy day so it was a good day to ride the Valley Flyer.  All was well at the airport until the flight started to be delayed for departure. Finally boarded the full flight only to have the passengers disembark as it was to be further delayed. It left two hours late but they are now waiting for their boarding time this afternoon.

I always disliked traveling during April for business. I guess travel never changes.

Thanks @HeartgroveJack for sharing and including a picture of the bus. I have a friend on Smith Mountain Lake in Union Hall who has been looking for a way to DC other than driving. And I’ve been looking for a way to visit her there without driving. United used to fly from Dulles to Roanoke mid day but has cut the flights to once daily and terrible times. I know there’s Amtrak but this is another option via Danville. You never know what you’ll learn on the Daily!  Thanks

Good morning from sunny Quartzsite.  There is a light wind, but it will probably get stronger during the day.  Today is laundry day, and I got an early start (for me) so I could get the clothes on the line while it was cool, and hopefully, I can bring them in before it gets really hot.  Both loads were hung out by about the same time I'm usually hanging out the first load.

I like the collection of days and thank you @grapau27 Graham for the explanation of All is Ours Day.  A very rudimentary bird would test my drawing abilities.  I like zoos, but haven't been to one since we were in Manaus in 2005.  The city tour included the opera house and the local zoo.  It was nice seeing the South American animals, but the zoo needed a major redo to get the animals out of the small areas.

I love the Helen Keller quote, but unfortunately, I don't always look for the new door.

We'll not even consider the meal and will pass on the drink and wine.

We have been to Tokyo twice.  The first time was in 2002 on the Asia Pacific Explorer Cruise on Volendam.  Our older DD was on for the first 11 days and disembarked in Tokyo.  After we helped her get settled in her hotel, the three of us toured the city.  Our second visit was in 2018 on Coral Princess.  That day we took the train from Yokohama to Tokyo.  I'll look for pictures in a little while.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi,  a  🥂 VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY 💐  and also to your twin.

@Overhead Fred  💕 🌹   HAPPY 34th ANNIVERSARY, MITIZI AND FRED! 🍾 🥂

@smitty34877  Terry, thanks for another beautiful pictures of sweet Camilla.

@Heartgrove  It's hard to believe that Southwest struck again.  It was lucky that your DD and DSIL could get seats on another plane, and fortunately, after more delays, were able to get to Ft.  Lauderdale.  Hope the make-up cruise goes smoothly.

@AncientWanderer  Maxine, as I mentioned yesterday, until 2020, we would not be in Texas during most of not all of the summer.  We'd either take our motorhome to Colorado, the PNW or Alaska or we would be on a cruise in Europe or Alaska.  It looks like this will be another summer spent in Texas, but we hope to be someplace cooler in 2023.

@mamaofami  Carol, I was happy to read that Sam has rejoined the chorus, and I know you both are happy too.  He has mad remarkable progress and I hope that continues.

When Tokyo was the port of the day last November we were enjoying a sea on the Koningsdam.  These are the pictures I would have posted that day.  They are a mix from our 2002 visit and our 2018 visit.  The air in 2018 was noticeably clearer in 2002.

In 2002, our older DD disembarked the Volendam and spent two nights in Tokyo before flying home.  The day we were port, the three of us toured the city.  We were lucky in 2002 and docked in Tokyo where we took a bus into town.

The view from DD's hotel room, and some of the area around the hotel, which was outside the main downtown area.

In 2018, we took the train from Yokohama where we docked.  The train station is the red brick building  in the background.  You could easily get lost in this huge. station

We also found a Krispy Kreme in a mall next to this area, and naturally, we had to have a snack.

DSC04291.thumb.JPG.d18713c708cb9f9e48a6a77a55e46ee7.JPG

The next group of pictures are a combination of the Ginza area in 2002 and 2018.  All were taken at the intersection with the many crosswalks that is shown in most pictures from Tokyo.  In 2002, we had dinner in a restaurant in one of the big stores.  Since none of us spoke Japanese, we chose this restaurant because we could point to the displays of the dishes we wanted.  After dinner, we left our DD in the Ginza and took a bus back to the ship, while she looked around some more and then headed to her hotel.  For this mother, it was hard to leave her alone even though she was 26 and well travelled because of her job.

Good morning and thanks all!  Happy birthday Sandi!  That quote is so true.   @summer slope that drink sounds very interesting, love elderflowers!  Baby Camilla is so cute! Happy anniversary @Overhead Fred

@Cruising-along it’s a tough decision but we’re on the cusp of another wave here so we went for it now.

We were in Lovely Japan exactly three years ago visiting one of the top gardens.  I will add some photos of Tokyo,  the whole population of Canada could reside in the worlds largest city!

Glad to help! This is the second time for Sue to use it from Staunton to Dulles. Her and I rode it last July for our Iceland cruise and it worked out really well. It does continue on to DC. There are two routes that might work for you and your friend either Christiansburg or Martinsville/Farmville. Our regional airport is losing service as well, so this will become one of the only options for the region.

@Overhead Fred A very Happy Anniversary to you and your bride. May you have many many more.

@AncientWanderer We have lived in Florida for so long ( over 35 years) that we really dont mind the summers.  DH used to spend summers here as a kid because his grandparents lived here. He used to help out in the orange groves pre Disney.

Saying that, I do visit my sister on Cape Cod every summer.  It is beautiful there.

I am going out to lunch with my DH too and since it's Friday I will have a GREEK salad and broccoli cheese soup at St. Louis Bread, uh, I mean Panera.  Yes, it's called St. Louis Bread in our hometown and that is where it was founded.  All that talk of Greek salad yesterday made me hungry for it!  The weather is lovely today so I'm a happy camper.

Great minds!   I came home from the pool and made a Greek salad.  I used tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, feta cheese, and kalamata olives.  I usually make a dressing of fresh lemon juice, garlic and olive oil.  Mmmmmm

Yesterday, talking with @Quartzsite CruiserLenda about heading back to Texas got me thinking.   Where would our Dailyites choose to be during the hottest days of summer?  We used to go to Idaho in August, but not anymore.  Here in San Diego, the beaches are good in August, but it's too hot for me.  Where would Dailyites choose to be in August?  Floating around the Med?  Alaska?  In the mountains somewhere?

I would love to be in a cottage on the Lake Michigan shore.
