I Have Covid

We returned yesterday after two wonderful weeks on the Discovery Princess.  Last night my throat was a bit sore so I tested myself, negative. Today my throat is still sore, I have a headache, and I developed a cough. I tested tonight using two different brands of home test kits and they are both positive.  We only left the ship once in 14 days and that was to go to the left-handed store on the San Francisco pier. I was double masked unless I was in the dining room, Buffet, or outside socially distanced.  I used a disposable glove in the casino so I would not pick up any germs from the slot machines.  I HAVE COVID.

I sent an email to my PVP listing all of the employees that I had close contact with.  There were at least 7 or 8.  I pray that no one else gets sick.

If you have any symptoms whatsoever you should probably test. You may want to test even if you do not have symptoms just so you don’t spread Covid to other people. I think it was too soon to drop the mask mandate, my opinion.  I wonder how many cases were on the Discovery Princess?

Your post doesn't make sense, you say to soon to drop the mask mandate. You wore a mask x 2, and still caught it. Confused

I wore two masks but about 90% of the passengers wore nothing. My belief is if everyone was masked then there would be less of a chance of getting sick.  I had no problems on our December cruise when everyone was masked.  My opinion.

So sorry that you tested positive & hopefully without any severe symptoms nor longterm adverse affects.

As you know Discovery has eliminated the in-transit test we had between the first 2 voyages and now there are reports that the buffet is self service. We never went into the casino & agree they dropped these preventative measures too soon. Princess will never disclose how many Covid cases were on these B2B cruises but the list of people continues to grow.

Thank you Astro Flyer.

I had heard that they eliminated the in-transit test but I didn’t know if it was true, ugh.  And now self-service at the buffet… What are they thinking?

I sent an email to my PVP letting her know of all the employees that I had close contact with.  I hope no employees or passengers are sick because of me.

Did you read what happened to me at the Port of LA parking area?  I’m having a rough few days.  😭

Wow. So sorry to hear this. We cruised in the middle of the Omnicrom surge in January 2022. We were masked along with everyone else (N95), crew served in the buffet etc.  we made it through without getting sick.
We leave on April 23rd and are a bit nervous. I wish they would go back to the crew serving in the buffet and more masking.
We will be N95 masked and hand sanitizer. I just got my second booster. I hope that we stay healthy.
I hope that you get well soon

The stolen car battery, correct? 😳

Yes!  They also damaged the hood release cable.  The good news is that the part is only 40 something dollars and the bad news is that it’s almost $600 to install the part. I have to pay for it first and then my insurance will pay for it so that’s OK but It’s always something….

Thank you.

I was going to wait about two weeks to make sure I was OK and then I was going to get my second booster.  I am double vaccinated with one booster so hopefully things will go OK. I’m feeling a bit rough tonight.

I wish you the best on your cruise.

What was the passenger capacity on your cruise? I sailed on earlier cruises on the Millennium and the Majestic. Both ships sailed with extremely low numbers and we never heard of positive cases. Just wondering if capacity could be a factor.

I wish you a speedy recovery. Thank you for posting. It’s too soon to relax the protocols!

Thank you.  If I remember correctly we had around 2300 passengers. The cruise that left yesterday was sold out at 3400 passengers. We had asked if we could pay to stay on another week and I guess I’m pretty lucky that they were sold out. I would hate to be sick all the way down south in Mexico.

@MsSoCalCruiser  so very sorry to hear about your case.  The Discovery is (brand) new and already catching up to the rest of the fleet.

Thank you for being so responsible with testing and trying to keep yourself and others safe.  I self tested 5 times before, during, and after being at sea for 25 days.  I was relieved with each negative test.

There seems to be a “positive “ correlation between the easing up of restrictions to increasing number of cases.  I am glad more are speaking up.  Everyone should hear their stories.

In my opinion, Princess is going to relive the Diamond/Grand lesson.  I hope not, but unless they improve things, it looks like a similar path.

Hope your symptoms are mild and you recover soon.

I’m very sorry to learn of your string of recent bad luck. When it rains….

I hope your symptoms are mild.  I think your point about testing when you return from a cruise even if asymptomatic is very valid. There is little doubt that COVID is on ships, and that this current strain is extremely contagious regardless of mitigation steps that are taken.

Feel better soon.

sounds like the symptoms of a cold to me remember those ?

how do I know ? I've just stepped off the Sky Princess with exactly the same symptoms and also tested day after I disembarked ....

mask wearing was enforced apart from restaurants ( sip & cover) and N95 masks handed out ...

so in my opinion testing ,$$ ,mask wearing is a waste of time and princess should drop this nonsense as it's endemic ....travel is a risk and this is part of it ....everybody has caught a cold from travelling pre pandemic and this is where we ending up ....

Like I've said above , I have it right now ...symptoms of a cold,

And after following ALL their protocols !

Exactly correct, and passenger do NOT want masks

Thank you for your sense of community.  I'm sorry this happened to you.  It's not your fault; the current variants are omnipresent and highly contagious.  Get well soon. 🙏

You're partially wrong.  I want masks and based on what I read on CC there are others too.  I'm not inclined to cruise until something changes for the better.  I don't want to be in Princess' quarantine prison nor do I want to get Covid and take the chance of getting long Covid.  It is not just a cold as some people think.

This seems to be what is common with all the stories here of passengers getting Covid,

As I have stated before, how do you enjoy a meal without dropping your mask?

Thank you for your report and I wish you a speedy recovery 🙂

I’m so sorry to read this and I hope that you are feeling better today. Did you ever say if your friend got it too?
The Rock Opera was very good but I wouldn’t go to it three times. There were so many songs that I just didn’t understand but I guess that’s the way it is at a opera.

Get well soon.

Maybe in taking your masks up and down while trying to eat/drink you transferred the virus from the mask to your face.  We haven't taken a cruise (waiting for the protocols to go away) but I haven't worn a mask for a year plus in all kinds of situations inside with many people for extended periods of time and never gotten ill.  I am vaccinated with 1 booster so maybe that is why.
