StLouisCruisers Posted August 17, 2022 #26 Share Posted August 17, 2022 Good morning friends! Up to exercise early today, then prayers for our members on the Care list, those suffering from Covid, disease, injuries, etc. and the people of Ukraine. We should also be thinking about those in Taiwan who are in danger including @Horizon chaser 1957's DD. It was sad to hear that Shadow is on the loose now. Jacqui @kazuyou did everything you could for her including love her. I hope your hand heals quickly and that Liz and the other searchers find Shadow soon. 🙏 Terri @Cruzin TerriI'm sorry to hear your neighbor has cancer and in hospice. May she find comfort there. Mary Kay @cruzn singlemy sympathy on the loss of your neighbor. Condolences also to her family. Graham @grapau27it looks like a fine day for a stop at the beach and ice cream! We have a great quote today, and the stuffed pasta shell recipes and photos from Debbie @dfishlook delicious. The ricotta and beef ones look great to me but I would try them all. As for Roy's @rafinmdCelebration list, I hope we have more good news in the future because a long Celebration list cheers everyone up. Thrift shops are important as a depository for all our "stuff" when we find we don't need it anymore. Neighbor night sounds interesting. I'd love to hear of some of the get togethers any of you have tonight with your neighbors. And I think black cats are so pretty and sleek as someone said. Too bad they get a bad rap! Punta Arenas, Chile is a first time showing for port of the day. I thought I'd been there four times, but the fourth time was a miss because of a huge storm while on Coral Princess in January 2020. We stopped instead at Puerto Montt. The other times there were a March 2012 Star Princess South America cruise, then a February 2015 Ruby Princess South America cruise (which included Lenda and DH @Quartzsite Cruiser, and finally a Christmas day 2016 stop on our Seabourn Quest Antarctica and South Georgia Island cruise. You'd be surprised how busy the town was on Christmas Day! I believe I'll post this and start a new post for some photos. Have a safe and healthy Wednesday everyone! 28
4966and556 Posted August 17, 2022 #27 Share Posted August 17, 2022 Thank you for the Daily Fleet Report! @dfish my husband and I just decided to try the Mexican version for supper tonight! Thank you! quilty964 Posted August 17, 2022 #29 Share Posted August 17, 2022 @kazuSo sorry to hear about Shadow and your hand...she knew love from you. @dfishThe stuffed shells look yummy. I'm a fan of thrift shops, love to shop there, and we've also donated lots. No black cats here, just a black dog! We haven't been to todays port, but while on a land trip in the Alpine region in Europe, we did spend a day in Bled...took the boat ride to the church. The pictures of the bakery brought back memories of that day! Have a great day! 27

StLouisCruisers Posted August 17, 2022 #31 Share Posted August 17, 2022 On our first stop in Punta Arenas, Chile in 2012 we and another couple who cruised with us walked to the overlook to see the whole town. We also did some shopping and visited some monuments. A good gift store right down the street from Plaza de Armas. The Plaza de Armas The Magellan statue I think I saw one of these dogs sleeping here three years later on our 2015 stop! On our tender ride back to the Star Princess we were accompanied by some dolphins. In 2015 on Ruby Princess, arriving at our anchorage. We walked downtown again and visited the Shackleton Bar inside the Sara Braun Palace Here's the bar And the much lighter and brighter conservatory near it A protest on a street corner Back at the Plaza de Armas a lot of vendors were set up. And here is a local stray who looks like he could have slept in front of the Magellan statue, or perhaps a relative of one of those dogs I photographed 3 years earlier. On December 25, 2016 we were able to dock instead of anchor on Seabourn Quest's stop there. All the goodies were on display for us even though it should have been a holiday. Penguins are the star here. These look warm! A sign similar to the one in Ushuaia, Argentina For the first time we took a walk in the cemetery. Very interesting place! I could do that walk again. So much to see there. From there we walked back to the church across from Plaza de Armas. Many of us quietly popped our head in the door to see the interior but left quickly so we wouldn't disturb the worshippers. Time to head back to the Quest for a snack at the poolside restaurant. Heaters and blankets are provided for your comfort. Whatever we ate, I'm sure it was great. 25

mamaofami Posted August 17, 2022 #33 Share Posted August 17, 2022 Good morning everyone. I’m having trouble waking up this morning. Actually waiting for a telemedicine appointment with my pain md to renew my script. The weather has finally cooled down to an acceptable level but we are desperate for rain as are many people across the country. Heading out to meet some friends at the pool later. Stay safe everyone, Carol
marshhawk Posted August 17, 2022 #34 Share Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) Good Wednesday Morning Dailyites! Yesterday while sitting on the work bench, I managed while trying to pet two cats at once, to pinch a nerve in my neck, and spent most of the night moaning in pain. What a wimp. I remembered when I got up that there was an old tube of Icy Hot (Performance) and rubbed some on my neck-it hurts all the way up into my jaw. We had salmon with a horseradish maple rub last night, which was great , along with spinach, and green beans, but the green beans, while fresh, tasted odd to me, really odd, and then I started getting pains in my sides. Apparently it only bothered me, because DH cleaned up the kitchen and made chocolate chip cookies. I had to eat several with milk, and then I really did hurt all over. So I wish I could get comfortable and sleep all day, but that is not in the plans. DH always waits until the last minute to get his meds, and now we have to drive up to the docs to pick up his heart meds. He does this because they give him free samples, and he doesn't have to pay for anything. I know his appointment is coming up, and I think the doctor is about to take him off the meds. But that's in several weeks. He really isnt taking well to having days without work. And I really need to make a sale in my "small" campaign, or my lay off is eminent. I do well selling symphony, just not theatre. @dfishAll of those recipes look great! And @ottahand7thanks for the heads up on tomato sauce. I will stock up on our next shopping day. (the prices are already going up, but better to be prepared). @kazuI really don't have words to say about your time with Little Shadow. It's heart breaking for you I know. You did all the right things, and my heart does out to you. We will celebrate Black Cat Day with Tazi. She's not totally black, but you cant see the white spots until she rolls over. My thanks to all of you today, the lists, recipes pictures, and posts. You all keep me strong! Edited August 17, 2022 by marshhawk 26
aliaschief Posted August 17, 2022 #35 Share Posted August 17, 2022 Good afternoon from Molde, Norway. We had a rather bumpy ride last night after having our first meal in Club Orange. There are 2,600 pax onboard and many are from the Nederland's and lot’s of first time cruisers. Bathrobe’s are the most popular dress around the ship and in Neptune Lounge! 😁 Last night several officers were making there way around the Crow’s Nest and their specific role was to talk to guest. Nice interaction. It was a cold and drizzle day so not the best for touring but still beautiful. Tomorrow is Gerirangerfjord and the weather looks promising. Still issue’s with phone holding a charge so no pics available until it get’s recharged. @kazu Sorry about Shadow. Thanks Rich and all who contribute. Life is good on the MS Rotterdam. Tonight we dine Nami Sushi. 27
Rare 0106 Posted August 17, 2022 #36 Share Posted August 17, 2022 I took this picture of the sunset over Assawoman Bay in Ocean City last night. It is the last sunset after 8 pm until May 2, 2023. For everyone suffering in the heat, Fall is on the way. @kazu You have been in my thoughts. I can’t imagine what you are going through, but I’m rooting for you every minute of every day. Wishing everyone peace, love and happiness. 29
Seasick Sailor Posted August 17, 2022 #37 Share Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) Good morning friends and Daily-ites. Aw @kazu Jacqui this is so heartbreaking. I'm sick for you and Shadow. I hope she is found soon. Hoping she's not trying to find her way back to you.. Thank you Sandi for sharing the beautiful pictures. Prayers lifted to all on our long care lists. Our friends in Ukraine who are strong, yet suffering. Our border crossings here in Texas have reached 2 million so far this year, with people walking through dangerous heat. Parched lands here. More human remains, I think 5 sets found at Lake Mead... and many more prayers lifted. Celebration news.. a 90 year old lady lost has been found. Moisture may be coming to Central Texas this week. Celebration dinner tonight for 3 Birthday's. Looking forward to veal chops! Wishing everyone a blessed day. Pray for Shadow being found. God bless! Here's some pictures of our very parched yard and wooded area beyond. Edited August 17, 2022 by Seasick Sailor Add photo 21

ger_77 Posted August 17, 2022 #40 Share Posted August 17, 2022 Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily! I'm slowly clawing my way back to the land of the living. Man, this has really kicked the stuffing out of me (there's lots, not to worry). DH is a couple of days ahead of me in his recovery, so although he has close to zero energy, has still been helping me along as well. Thankfully our sweet almost-daughter has been bringing food over every night (even though we don't feel like eating), and checking in on us. Oh, and to top it off yesterday our temporary Chinese student tested positive as well. Sigh. I told DH we had officially reached the level of "Pathetic" yesterday when although neither of us wanted to eat, we knew we had to, so I heated up a single bowl of chicken noodle soup and we shared it. LOL Hopefully the fatigue won't last much longer and the cold and cough that comes with this virus goes away as well. @kazumy heart breaks for Shadow and for you, after all you've tried to do for her in the short time she was with you. Totally irresponsible of the rescue to not keep closer tabs on her. I'm done, that's all I can do today, best wishes to everyone if you're celebrating something, prayers if you're hurting. I'll be back tomorrow. Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂 Gerry 25

Rare TiogaCruiser Posted August 17, 2022 #42 Share Posted August 17, 2022 Good Morning All, Another hot day scheduled. It’s interesting that the evenings and early mornings are feeling like fall. Today’s agenda includes lunch with a childhood friend. @kazu So sorry to hear your news. You did all you could for Shadow. That rescue should be ashamed of themselves. @dfish The recipes sound great. Will try one for tonight, with a salad. DH really liked the shells you posted some 6 months ago. I really appreciate the time you take with the meal suggestions- so many times you have brought my interest back to cooking. Thanks. 2 hours ago, 1ANGELCAT said: @rafinmd, I just received an email from Hershey theater about Broadway shows. Come From Away: August 1-6, 2023. Rare TiogaCruiser Posted August 17, 2022 #43 Share Posted August 17, 2022 2013 A private tour through our rollcall that went to Ottway Sound for Penguins, lunch at Sotitos, the cemetery, plaza de armas, etc. 2018 we had a shorex set up ( I think with the same vendor, not sure) and they stood us up. So we got a cab and went to Nao Victoria, the cemetery and Shackletons Bar for lunch 23

No neighbour night for me tonight but a neighbour lunch is on the agenda tomorrow. Well, it’s been a bit depressing since I’ve been on. After discovering Shadow’s physical issues and neurological damage, I knew I couldn’t help her. She needed to be assessed by a vet (which I was paying for) however the rescue said under no circumstances could she be euthanized. They had already refused to do it when it was recommended by 2 other vets. On Monday, she took me down trying to get her in the house and I went flat on my back. Got her in and realized my hand and wrist was very sore and getting sorer. Thankfully the X-rays revealed nothing was broken (my previously broken wrist) and it is badly strained, sprained and torn. No lifting, no heavy weights. I had told the rescue that if they weren’t going to listen to vets, no point in me taking her or keeping her and to find her a new home. Now, she had to go to a new home as I wouldn’t be able to lift her. She was picked up yesterday morning and went with her new harness, leash, toys, food, treats, beds, etc. She is now on the run in Oromocto - having been lost by her new foster within what appears to be an hour of her arrival. My trainer is going down there today in hopes of sightings and wait and get her to come. She will come to her. I feel awful - sick and mad at the same time. She was here for 3 weeks & wasn’t lost. Stupidity 😡 I offered to cancel my grief meeting today and go with her and Liz said no - she wants me to go and besides, Shadow loves her and she will come to her if she can find her. She and I loved that munchkin. “She’s a sweet soul but when you look in her eyes you can see her brain whirling trying to figure out how she will take her next step and where to place her foot” (my trainer’s words). It was sad enough giving her up and not able to help her enough. She left here a much happier dog than when she arrived. Now, it’s all for naught. Prayers for everyone on the Care list and for those that need them and 🥂 to those on the Celebratory / Shout Out list. Have a good Wednesday everyone !!!!!! How very very sad. Hopefully Liz can find shadow. Glad your wrist wasn’t broken again. Keeping you in my prayers. 24

JazzyV Posted August 17, 2022 #46 Share Posted August 17, 2022 Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily. I like thrift shops, but try to donate much more to them than I buy. Nice neighbors are nice. I don't have a cat, but black cats shouldn't be targeted, especially around Halloween. Good quote. Stuffed shells are big here at weddings and parties. Never made my own. I like the drink and pass on the wine. I was in Punta Arenas on Christmas Eve, on my SA/Antarctica cruise on the Zaandam in 2018 It's been rainy here (no complaints) and is chilly today. Oy, I'm sleepy. I took Benadryl about 9:15 this AM for my injection this morning. The roofer dropped off a book with shingle covers. As soon as it's dry out I want to look at it outside to get a better appreciation for the colors. @kazu Sorry to hear about the fall, but thankfully nothing broken. So sad about Shadow. HAL Sailer Posted August 17, 2022 #50 Share Posted August 17, 2022 Just back from my walk to our town's Wednesday (and Saturday) Farmer's Market. The market was overflowing with beautiful local produce and baked goods. I came home with peaches, corn, peppers, tomatoes, and a loaf of fennel & sea salt bread. With only a mid-rise condo balcony for outdoor space, we are blessed to have such a bountiful market just three blocks away. As a side note to today's port of Punta Arenas: Has anyone been watching CNN's Patagonia: Life on the Edge of the World? I missed the first few of the six episodes but have been catching up via our cable system's ON DEMAND. Amazing photography and captivating narration. I haven't had the opportunity to travel to Patagonia but this series is taking me there (till I can go in person). @kazu I add my prayers for you and Shadow to those of other Daily-ites. May Shadow be found soon and safe. And, may you be comforted in the knowledge that your love and care has been a bright spot in Shadow's life. -Melisa 23
