Thank you for the daily fleet reports.

It is 70°F and sunny here

We had a nice breakfast this morning.

Tailgating happens all of the time and it is a traffic offence in the UK.

True quote.

Nice food today.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Good morning.   Thanks for the Fleet and Daily Report.

Happy Saturday of a holiday weekend for many of us.

Another nice summer day here in Southern Ontario.  Should get up to 30C (86F), with the humidity it will feel much hotter.  Bertie and I had a nice quiet walk before it gets too hot.

Haven't been to a Cinema in years.  Football fans love Tailgating (not the driving offence Graham referred to, but a party in the parking lot before a game).  No skyscrapers in my little town.

Love the quote, I'll have to remember that.

The meal sounds good, looking forward to seeing the recipe.

I'm sure the drink is great too.  I think I'll like the wine.

Prayers for everyone.  I hope everyone can find something to celebrate.

Have a wonderful day.   Stay safe.

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for the daily fleet report.  It’s another beautiful day in New England. Today’s meal suggestion sounds good but without the pesto.  This morning we’ll be running errands and then I hope to work in the yard.  I hope everyone has a nice Saturday.

The good sister adopted Raven’s uncle.  She named him Remy.

Good morning! Up early as I just couldn’t sleep any longer. Not sure what caused that.

In other news we will be washing dishes by hand for a while as the cost of a new circuit board led us to make a decision to just buy a new dishwasher! New Dishwasher has to be shipped from a Lowe’s distribution center in Georgia. Hey, there’s always something and definitely not worthy of being put on the Care list!😁

Love today’s quote which at my age is truer then I care to believe!

Yesterday, we went to our local fish monger and bought a red snapper filet which we enjoyed last night for dinner. We saw that they really had some really nice sized live Blue Crabs so if they still have some we will enjoy a crab picking fest tonight. A benefit of living here is we get fresh seafood caught by locals from their trawler at reasonable prices. Their boat goes out just about every night so the catch is really fresh and so good. Tried out my new phone cam yesterday so a couple of pics that have nothing to with cruising but it’s a boat and it floats.

Thanks for the reports and contributions.

Bruce

Bacon-Wrapped Pesto Pork Tenderloin is a recipe I think most on the Daily will love.

Pesto is that wonderfully green sauce that offers a flavor that can best be described as bright and pungent, with a basil-forward, herbaceous garden aroma suspended with delicate olive oil, enriched with pine nuts and kicked into overdrive with Italian cheeses and garlic. Although the recipes below are made with store bought pesto, I highly recommend making your own.  It is very simple to make pesto, by combining basil, garlic, pine nuts and Parmesan in the bowl of a food processor.  I frequently add spinach or arugula or even substitute completely if I don’t have any fresh basil.  I usually use walnuts instead of pine nuts.  Sometimes I add lemon zest or lemon juice.  Freshly grated Parmesan is essential.

Here is a basic pesto recipe from one of my favorite sites. https://www.loveandlemons.com/pesto-recipe

Pesto Recipe

I did a bit of research about store bought pesto.  I believe the best jarred sauce is Alessi Pesto and the best refrigerated is Buitoni.

Here is the simplest recipe I found

https://wannabite.com/pesto-bacon-wrapped-pork-tenderloin-recipe/

I like that spinach is added to this recipe.

This looks delicious with the addition of cream cheese and sundried tomatoes.

@aliaschief  Be sure you have some Old Bay for steaming those blue crabs!

Did you know that today movie tickets will be just $3 in the vast majority of American theaters  as part of National Cinema Day?

Thanks for our Saturday Daily, Rich.

I figured I better post early before the day gets away from me again 😉 Nice collection of days.  Don’t think I can celebrate any of them.  No tailgating parties or skyscrapers around here.  I guess instead I’ll celebrate Labour day weekend and wish everyone who has it a lovely long weekend 🙂

oh that quote by Susan Collins is ever so true!  The meal suggestion sounds good!

Can’t believe September is here already!  Soon, the honking will be heard overhead as the Canada Geese head south.  Many Canadians will be glad to see them go (but not winter come).  Those birds can get pretty vicious.  So my memes are dedicated to them today 😉

Busy day yesterday - had my gardener guy here to help me in the garden for places my knee can’t go and I worked as best I could where I could.  Ouch!  Then I had the pleasure (NOT) of an email which made it clear something I thought was settled was not.  They wanted the deed redone and another certified copy of the POA but now, with Jose gone, the POA is null and void.  I spent a very painful 1.5 hours on the phone telling my story over and over again.  Now, I have to start all over again. ‘Sigh’.  Well, I will just have to pick myself up and do it.

Excitement today is heading to the liquor store (if it’s not too busy)  and picking up additional stuff for next weekend. Ca-ching  $$$ and try to keep up with 2 of my roll calls.  They had me hopping yesterday on the spread sheets - all good 😉

Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them and 🥂 to those on the Celebratory / Shout Out list.

Have a great Saturday everyone !!!!!

Thank you for the Saturday report, Rich.  @grapau27, tailgating originated with US football games probably in about the 50's where a lot of people drove station wagons with tailgates (much like modern pickup trucks) and people would congregate in the stadium parking lot with lots of snacks and drop the tailgates of the wagons and have a party sharing fellowship, rooting for their teams, and sharing food.  I suspect there were also a lot of adult beverages involved which would not be good news for the drive home after the game.  Skyscrapers can be majestic and cinemas  can probably use a day in post covid times.  Been to Mindelo just once on my segment of the 2014 Amsterdam World Cruise.  I'm with @Crazy For Cats that I would prefer the meal minus the pesto.

Today’s care list:

RIP Baltimore Fire Captain Anthony Workman 9/2/22
lRIP  uvteaching’s friend Waybe 9/3/22 and strength for Karen

Cruisin Terri worsening multi-site  pain
Dfish poor experience with surgeon
From the rotation:
Sandi’s neighbor Linda in critical condition
strength for smitty34877 helping Tana long term
Atrex6 Father severely declining
Strength and healing (physical and emotional) for Kazu

Celebrations and Shoutouts:

Rowsby in Hawaii until 9/28
Tiogacruiser stepping up to cover wines  for cat shepard
1 day for cat shepard (Nieuw Amsterdam 9/4 to 9/11)

Graham, the National Tailgating day here in the Colonies is to celebrate Tailgating in sport arenas and stadiums parking lots where before games people have picnics  with tailgates of their vans and SUV's open where all the food and beverages are accessible. They bring along folding chairs and grills and have a grand time.

Yes, we also have Tailgating like you mentioned by people who are stupid and ignorant drivers, something that's not a cause for celebration.

Good morning friends!  A typical morning here - 70F and 98% humidity.  The rains predicted yesterday never came.  They threaten us with them every day!  Thanks Rich @richwmnfor the Daily and Fleet Report.  Nice that cinemas have a day to celebrate.  They could use the business.  Also thanks to Tina @0106for the tip on the $3 tickets.  I enjoyed seeing the recipes and photos of the pork tenderloins.  Looks like something I and most of us would enjoy.  Tailgating is fun at the stadium parking lot but not on the roadways as Graham @grapau27mentioned.  Maybe you could start a tailgating trend there in the UK Graham, at your next football/soccer game.  Skyscrapers have their place in the world but none close to me.  Atlanta would be the nearest one.  Tallest skyscraper I was ever in was Taipei 101.  Scary!!  I liked the quote today, but would say no to the drink and wine.  Mindelo, Cape Verde Islands is a good port, and was last seen here on May 3, 2021.  It was on page 58 of Rich's posting activity, and here is a link for retrieving photos.

Thanks to Roy @rafinmdfor the Care and Celebration lists.  Prayers said for all on the Care list and the Ukraine.  Cheers to the Celebration list people!  Thank you @Crazy For Catsfor the cute photo of Raven and Remy.  Glad they were both adopted and have a home now.  Jacqui @kazulove all the memes today.  I will make sure to run if I see a Canadian goose coming my way.  Once in a while we see geese at the ponds and lakes along the golf course.  Good luck with your business phone call.  I absolutely hate doing things like that.  I tend to procrastinate when confronted by those difficult calls.  I hope Debbie @dfishis enjoying Midland and finding some good choices for a new home.

Hoping everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend!

Mindelo, Cape Verde Islands was an overnight stop on our 2018 Grand Africa and Mediterranean voyage on Prinsendam.  On the island of Sao Vicente, the city of Mindelo was the Prinsendam's stop in the Cape Verde Island on April 22 and 23, 2018.  We were able to dock there, and then there were small shuttle vans that would drive us to the downtown area from the dock area.  enhance

Something like this.enhance

We were dropped off on the road running along the beach.enhance

enhance

enhance

Nearby was a replica of Lisbon's Tower of Belem.enhance

enhance

First a stop at the marketenhance

Then you could watch these locals carry goods home on their heads!  Real talent!enhance

The lady on the right could make some out of this world salads I bet.  The one on the left has eggs on her head!enhance

We also saw a fish market, and the main church in town.enhance

I believe this was a government office.enhance

This pink building called the Palacio do Presidente was once home to the island's governor.enhance

There was a small park a block or so off the beach road, and it was called Praca Nova which means New Square.  It seemed to be a gathering place and we used it to take a rest before heading back to the ship that day.enhance

enhance

I have a photo of this spot in the park but I'm not sure what its purpose is.  Tourist info?  Selling Coca-Cola?enhance

Time to catch our ride back to the ship.  There she is way off in the distance in the center of this photo.enhance

The day after we left Mindelo we were supposed to tender into Praia, Ilha de Santiago in the Cape Verde Islands, but the weather didn't cooperate and we headed towards Banjul, The Gambia arriving there a day early.enhance

This is as much as I could see of Praia.enhance

Next time!

Good Saturday Morning Dailyites.  Thank you all for your posts today, and I will take a break to catch up, not like yesterday!  I don't want to sound disagreeable today, but I don't like going to movie theatres, I like the looks of some skyscrapers, but hate to be in them, and I would have to like some type of sport that creates the situation of having a tailgate party, but being neither a fan of football (i like soccer) or baseball, well anything with major crowds that I have be in, I'm not going to be there.

In fact, I think the more I isolate these days the more I actually like it.  One more week until we cruise, guess I will find out if I can handle crowds.  And when I am on a ship, I usually find the quiet places,  and plant my butt there.

I meant to say that for all our friends here who are suffering from this terrible heat wave, stay hydrated if you can, and i have read that sitting in the heat with a fan on, is not that healthy as it would seem, as the air continues to dry out out.

Formula 1 is calling me to the tv, so have a great day!

They sure are - BUT they are protected under the Migratory act (whatever it’s called) here.  I think it applies to all of North America - but not 100% sure.

Thank you for today's lists Roy.

For Tailgating I think in UK terms which is dangerous and intimidating.

for those in the US, particularly the Southeast (SEC, ACC) this is tailgating (from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailgate_party)

260px-Benstailgate.JPG

A tailgate party is a social event held on and around the open tailgate of a vehicle. Tailgating, which primarily takes place in the United States and Canada, often involves consuming alcoholic beverages while barbecuing and grilling food. Tailgate parties occur in the parking lots at stadiums and arenas, before and occasionally after games, festivals, and concerts. People attending such a party are said to be 'tailgating'. Many people participate even if their vehicles do not have tailgates. Tailgate parties also involve people bringing their own alcoholic beverages, barbecues, food, etcetera. which is sampled and shared among fans attending the tailgate. Tailgates are intended to be non-commercial events, so selling items to the fans is frowned upon and can even be considered illegal soliciting. Tailgating is often seen as a critical part of the sports experience in the United States. Because many American sports venues are surrounded by large parking lots, tailgating often takes place right outside stadium and arena entrances.

Tailgate parties have spread to the pre-game festivities at sporting events besides American football, such as basketball, hockey, soccer, and baseball, and also occur at non-sporting events such as festivals, weddings, and concerts.[1][2] As American football outside North America has copied many of its associated traditions from the National Football League (NFL) and college football, tailgating parties are also held at some American football games in Europe.
