Good morning. Well I have no need to celebrate bald day but I’m waiting for Receding Day which I will proudly celebrate. Walked to school for 14 years through wind, rain and lots of snow.

This morning the irrigation specialist will be installing a new control box. He was amazed it was still operating since we bought the house new in 1995. They don’t build them like they used to!

Thanks Rich for the fleet report and to all who contribute. Need to finish my coffee and get my walk in before repairman arrives.

Have a great day and enjoy your upcoming cruises.

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for the daily fleet report.  I’ll pass on today’s meal suggestion.  Today’s drink sounds really good.  Another beautiful day in New England with temperatures getting into the 70’s again.  A big chill is coming tomorrow.  I hope everyone has a good day today.

Good morning all from a drizzly Quebec City. Safe travels to everyone meeting up in QC today and tomorrow.

I wonder why the Nieuw Statendam is at Port Alfred again today, that’s near Saguenay, I thought it would be a sea day for them.

Our DGD and our almost DGD walk to high school every day. I miss the days when we used to take her and pick her up.

Yesterday for lunch we ate at a restaurant we had eaten at before with DM in 2009 when we on the Eurodam.

We shared cheese fondue and rabbit stew. I really enjoyed the beans.

We had maple crème brûlée for dessert.

For dinner Craig suggested 1640 Bistro.

We shared a hamburger and escargot.

We were full so didn’t have dessert.

Tonight we are meeting up with Debbie for dinner and can’t wait!

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Friday!  I have to run to get a mammogram 😬and hopefully get blood work and a bilateral hand x-ray while I am at the hospital.   Then we are going on a long drive through the countryside to enjoy the leaf color which is getting spectacular.   Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports.  When kids our house was a good 3/4 of a mile from our bus stop since our house was at the end of a long dirt road.  It was not too fun in a Michigan winter.   I will pass on the fish, the drink not for me but the Sokol Blosser Evolution is a popular wine on BHBs.  We enjoyed it a lot in the Grand Dutch Cafe on the NS.   Prayers for everyone in Ukraine and for those suffering from Ian and Fiona.  @richwmnenjoy your cruise, I hope you get to sleep in a lot!

My neighbor from the cabin surprised me yesterday with a photo of our cabin with the fall color.  The asters are blooming, the amsonia is turning gold and the leaves are pretty too.  It was a nice surprise of a view we very rarely see.   Have a wonderful day!!

Good morning from central Texas.  Right now it is 65F and will warm up to 90F.  So far, I only have two sore arms from my third booster and the flu shot.  I say so far because the last two vaccines gave me a nasty reaction the next day for a few hours.  🤞  Hoping this time it doesn't happen.

Bald and Free Day is one we can celebrate.  DH has a ring of hair around his scalp, but he trims it very close, and I like the look.  I walked to school a few times in elementary school.  The DDs always rode the bus.   I try to smile as much as possible.

Another interesting quote.  We'll pass on the meal and the drink.  The wine sounds nice though.

We have been to Dawson four times when we drove to Alaska.  The only digital pictures of Dawson are from our 2011 trip.  BTW, sometimes you might see Dawson called Dawson City, especially by people driving the Alaska Highway, to distinguish it from Dawson Creek, BC, the start of the Alaskan Highway.  Dawson is reached by turning off the AH outside of Whitehorse and taking Hwy 2, the Klondike Highway.  Dawson gained fame in 1898 during the Gold Rush since it was the place where gold was discovered.  Many of the buildings from that era are still in use.  You can visit an old gold dredge out of town.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, I'm glad the weather is improving.

@kazu  Jacqui, I'm glad you are getting some help today.

@0106  Thank you for pinch hitting for @dfish Debbie.

@richwmn  Rich, thanks for posting the Fleet/Daily, and I'm glad  you got more sleep.  Enjoy your visit with your friends and the train ride.

When we were in Dawson in 2001, an episode of the Murdock Mysteries was being filmed.  Most of my pictures have some of the actors and crew at work in them.

Some of the buildings in town.  That year I did not get a picture of Diamond Tooth Gerties, the only casino in the Yukon.  We have been there a few times, and once found a $50 bill in the parking lot.  That bought our anniversary dinner.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Bald can be beautiful, especially with the right attitude.  As a child, I always walked to school which was about 5 blocks away; it was only a trial during the winters when it was always terribly cold.  I still have nerve damage on one ear where it froze while walking to school one day.  A smile often gets one in return.

Well yesterday was productive in that I was able to clean all the inside windows and get them ready for their plastic coverings before winter comes.  I always do the cleaning a day ahead so there isn't any moisture left when I put up the storm plastic.  There was a great sale on beef and chicken broth, so we went and loaded up - which meant DH had to rearrange the downstairs pantry (we have many pantries) to accommodate them.  He advises me that if I purchase another IKEA bag or grocery store bag, he's going to take away my credit card.  Apparently we have a plethora of each.

@marshhawkyou made me laugh when you talked about your cat hurling; there's nothing (except the sound of a kid barfing) that gets adults moving faster than when they hear their cat yakking in another room.

@kazuI am so glad to hear you're getting help; you're going to wear yourself out trying to do all the yard work alone.

This morning we'll install the plastic storm windows, then at noon I'll have lunch with a colleague I haven't seen in months, which will be so nice.  Other than that, I'll let DH peruse the online menus to see what pizza we'll be enjoying for dinner tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for all who are hurting, cheers to the celebrations!  Stay safe, everyone!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Good Friday morning everyone from a cold and mostly sunny Northern Michigan.  Wrapping up the last of the fall chores today and then dinner with some high school friends.  I have a full head of hair (thanks grampa) so I’m not celebrating bald day, but I will celebrate smile day.  I walked to school every day and I walk to work each day.  I’ll pass on the meal but the drink sounds good.  Prayers for everyone on our prayer list.  Cheers to everyone celebrating happy events and to those traveling!

Good morning all!

The alarm went off at 4:30 this morning at our airport hotel. 🫤

Now sitting in the airport waiting for our 8 am flight (hurry up and wait). It will be a long 13-hour day before we reach Quebec City but I’m very excited although bleary-eyed!

Good morning,

I woke up and misread the time and posted the Fleet Report and Daily. When I realized what time it actually was, I went back to sleep and slept later than I have in a very long time.

It is currently raining in Ottawa after two lovely days. Later today I will change location to visit another couple here in Ottawa, then board the train tomorrow for Quebec City. I'm looking forward to the cruise and seeing many old friends again.

Hope everyone has a great day!

The rain actually makes the Fall Foliage colors more vibrant

Good morning again.

Well, the sun has taken a hike and the dark clouds have rolled in.

The rain will start shortly.

i got up early but Jim decided to sleep in. I should have gone down to the beach while the sun was out.  By the time breakfast was over it was too late.

Well, I have a few good books.  Time to crack one open.

Hopefully this cloud will pass and Mr. Sun will make another appearance.

Thank you Rich for the Daily Report, thank you Roy for the Cares and Celebration Report, thank you Tina for today's recipes, and thank you Dixie for today's cocktail recipe. And thankyou all for being here!

Update on my brother. I spoke to DSIL yesterday and every day he fades a bit more. We had a discussion about our trip next week and she told me not to worry about it. His wishes are to be cremated and no service at that time. I essentially said goodbye to him when my sister passed away in June. We will make the trip again in December but before the holidays.

On a brighter note, my daughter and her husband have the walkthru of their new house next week with the closing the week after. While they are doing the walkthru, Lily is coming to visit us! Eight weeks old on Monday and definitely has grown. Really looking forward to it!

Stay Safe!

Good morning all. I can't tell you how much I envy those of you gathering in Quebec for your cruise. My day will come.

Chilly here this morning.... 40F when the dogs and I went for our first walk. I understand that dash when there is the sound of a pet getting ready to toss the cookies. Bandit did it to me the other day. I managed to leap from bed and get him onto a washable surface before the big moment.

Little from here.... have not been to Dawson and neither food nor drink appeal today. Right now the big news from Durango is the search for a missing runner outside of town in an area of very rough terrain. He was last seen Sunday morning and we fear the worst. His parents have arrived in town and are keeping vigil near his car which is parked at the trailhead. Weather has not been good with rain/hail and even a bit of snow in the area that is being searched. Very sad and scary. He is a young man but left for a short run and was not carrying the necessary to get him through prolonged exposure.

Back to clearing out stuff.I am trying to locate some items my Sister wants me to bring her and I have no idea where I packed them.

I have been to Dawson City twice, both times in conjunction with land-sea itineraries.  I have no photos but a couple of stories from the 2002 trip.  It was primarily with a Canadian company that started by flying to Inuvik and then traveling the Dempster Highway to Dawson City and onwards to Skagway where we boarded the Zaandam for a 4-day cruise to Vancouver.  I'll start with our visit to Diamond Tooth Gerties (photo from 2018):

gerties.jpg

As we were leaving the performance at Gerties and returning to our hotel I noticed a couple ahead of me with familiar looking sweatshirts.  It turned out to be my County Executive, the Chief of a nearby Fire Department, and their wives (both wives were active in the fire service).  They had been on a HAL land tour and were also headed to the Zaandam.  We saw each other several other times before reaching Vancouver.

I was the only American in a bus full (about 20) of Canadians on the trip.  I enjoyed their hospitality as we participated in the Canada Day celebrations in Whitehorse.  We continued the next day to the Zaandam, and it became my turn to be host as we visited Ketchikan on July 4.  I had come armed with some US souvenirs for the occasion.

My second time was my 2018 Grand Alaska trip.  I disembarked Volendam in Skagway and started overland to the Yukon, Denali, and finally the Westerdam back to Vancouver.  A highlight of my time there was of course the Dawson Fire Museum:

SS Keno was closed for renovation but still stately.

And interesting photos from your time in and around Dawson, Roy.  How ironic your colleagues and their wives were in town with you that day.  It's a small world.

I've been busy this morning and for that reason forgot it was Friday and needed to get my knee exercises done.  I do them twice a day M-W-F, so now I will have to go through it twice in one afternoon.  I'll try to put as much time as possible between sessions though.  It takes about 30 minutes to do them correctly, and I've been trying to exercise the left leg as well as the achy right leg.  Didn't want to get lopsided by only exercising the right knee.😂

What I'm working on is a 2023 wall calendar which we like to write down our appointments, etc. on as well as a visual reminder of birthdays and anniversaries of our family and friends.  I make them on Shutterfly and the process isn't as difficult as making a book.  The calendar process is much the same as it was last year.  However making a photo book has me so frustrated that I haven't gone back to work on it.  I'll get around to it someday.

I was also working on cleaning the shower drain.  Remove the cover, make sure there's not any hair clogging it (it was clear!), then scrub the cover and the top part of the drain pipe.  After that I put baking soda and vinegar in there several times to freshen the remainder of the drain pipe.  That's enough time spent on house work.  Too bad it's too early for happy hour!  That would be a nice reward for that nasty job.🥂
