Check your final statement

I was just looking over our final statement from our 8 day Horizon cruise a few weeks ago. I wanted to see if it would be worth getting cheers next time. We spent approximately $1450.00 total and only $800.00 was drinks, the rest was gratuities internet and 3 specialty restaurants. Cheers may not be worth it for us but I did see a $40.00 charge to camp ocean and my kids have been grown for years. I also had a charge for laundry which my wife did send out a bag but we are both Platinum. This isn't a huge deal and I will not contact Carnival but just letting you know check it before you disembark.

Also always check before leaving the ship and after. Carnival has made many incorrect charges to us over the years. I always wonder how many charges slip by people. I drink very little and almost every cruise a drink we did not have will appear on our bill.

Agree, great advice - be sure to keep an eye on your credit card (or whatever form of payment you used) even after your final paper statement is issued on the ship, as I've heard of people getting charged for laundry and beach towels days later.  It's easy for me to keep on top of charges in the app while on the ship, but I always forget after I board the plane to go home.  Out of sight our of mind I guess.

I have been charged for the pool towels on two separate occasions over the years. I don't even use them. Had to call to have charges removed. I don't know who would want to remove the raggedy things they call pool towels from the ship.

We've had pool towels charged to our account the morning of our departure. Luckily we noticed before we left the ship because it took a while (phone calls between guest services and housekeeping) for them to remove the charge.

Thanks for this. I have studied this thing over and over. We did save around $150.00 by not having it but I did have drinks on us in the casino and without that I'm sure that it would have put us over the top. Plus we have recently discovered alchemy bar and that gets way more pricey than a beer.

We’ve always check daily, first just to watch our spending and stay on budget, but to also catch anything right away. We’ve had erroneous drinks and they’ve grumbled about it at guest services with us, too. I can understand, they probably have their fair share of people trying to get some free drinks.
but I have also accidentally got an extra $200 OBC by keeping an eye on my account. When Horizon was out of service in December and they switched our sailings to other ships, each passenger was supposed to get $100 OBC. So when it wasn’t there as we sailed away I went to Guest Services and they agent added it to our account. Well, I guess the system was set to automatically add it overnight so we got another round of OBC by the morning 😅 Sure as heck wasn’t telling them though… So yes, always check your account!

Usually half way through our cruise I go to guest services to get a print out of the damage report.  I also do this the day before debarking.  This way if they make a mistake I have isolated the surprise to occurring on last day.

Recent Magic cruise I played the slots a few times-always put in $20 bill cash.  Had my SS card in machine to get the points-twice there were $20 charges for the slots.  No way I could disprove it so I let it go.  BUT I had a CCL excursion booked.  I used my $50 OBC to pay for it.  THEY cancelled the excursion.  I noticed a charge for "excursion pre sale."  Went to guest services twice-no one could figure out what it was.  3rd time was a charm-she said since I used my OBC to pay for it and I didn't go on it, they "took back" the OBC by charging me.  Say what??  THEY cancelled the excursion- I didn't "not go on it."  She empathized but kind of shrugged her shoulders.  I did not want to make a scene, so just said, fine, but that is absolutely NOT the way you should do things.  Got my final bill last night and they gave me $50 credit, so they stepped up, but I should not have had the charge to begin with.  So QUESTION anything you don't understand!

We had a charge show up as "Cherry on Top" once, and I couldn't figure out what it was since I never set foot in there, so I called GS to ask about it.  It was a donation we had made for the Bahamas after one of the storms trashed Abaco - so it was legit, but what a strange way to charge it!  I bet they had lots of folks calling to challenge the charge.

On our last cruise, there were several drinks charged to our account  throughout the week that we did not purchase (did not have CHEERS!).  But, weirdly enough, they were also reversed within 5 minutes of the charge without us contacting Guest Services to challenge.  Different days, different time of day, different bars.  That really has me scratching my head (that, and a dry scalp).

Did you happen to do Build a Bear? This charge shows up as Camp Ocean.

You know my wife did by a bear or something at the groove for St. Jude.

We did also have several drinks and two souvenir cups from red frog show up on the first day but they were both taken off before I went to ask about it.

The bears are listed as Camp Ocean so that is likely what that is. Good, timely reminder to check the bill before disembarkation because once you leave it's too late.

We had an erroneous charge once. It was for a drink at a bar that was charged to us a minute after the drinks we did purchase.  Apparently, the bar tender charged us for the next group's drinks.

Guest services grumbled a bit, but they did reverse it after about a 5 minute conversation.

Every drink I buy on a Carnival ship they make me sign a charge slip. If it's not my signature, I'm not paying for it! Why does guest services try to fight it? Can't they look up the charge slip?
