Princess Prizes on the Premiere Package

Curious about the "Princess Prizes" on the Premiere Package.  Not necessarily if it is worth it, but has anyone 'won' any of these prizes by simply walking through their cabin door?  If so, what did you 'win' and how did it work?

Thank you,

KB

I won $25 by opening by cabin door on the last night of the cruise.  A fellow passenger won $250.  It announces you are a winner right on the cabin digital screen.  There is also a drawing at the end of the cruise in the piazza.
The prize is obc that was applied directly to our folio.
Someone on our cruise won $5000 at the end of the cruise during a drawing.  That would be such a great prize and I’d definitely spend it by booking another cruise or two, so Princess would see all of it again.
It’s a fun game of chance but that’s not why I booked the Premium package.  I booked it for being able to drink decent wines and the specialty dinners.  The photos and prizes are fun little extras for me.

I just can't get over the extra $25 per day.  For that same output, I can eat specialty dining every night.

BUT, I'm not any kind of wine drinker.  I'm cheap wine.  I like sweet, I like fruity and if it has bubbles I'm thrilled.  Think boons strawberry hill, that's me.  So if you get the value out of it, great!  I'm thrilled for you.

I could see that .. I couldn’t find a wine I liked until I upgraded my package.  If they still had their old wine menu in place, I’d never think about upgrading.  I am in a solo cabin again departing today and upgraded to the premier package again for this cruise.  Wine is the only thing I really drink and their new wine list for the plus package is just not good.

BTW, I forgot to mention, the Prizes icon on your door is only activated while the casino is open.  Because we were in Canadian and Washington waters during half of our cruise, they stated the casino couldn’t open (never seen that before in all my time of cruising) so, the prizes option was not working for over half of our cruise.  And yes, you guessed it, the casino wasn’t open either.  That was truly not a great cruise for the ‘prizes’.  But, they may be predetermined anyway.

We decided to  try  the   upgraded package and  did  it 5  days  prior  to  our 7 day new england cruise.

cost $350

door  prizes when  entering  room =  $250  and  a  second  for $25

the  2 specialty dinings  were  delicious......  Sabatini/ bistro...plus $17/18 glasses  of  wine  that  we  enjoyed.

we  picked  3  photos that  were  perfect

we  tried many wines  ,  champagne and cocktails that  were over  the $12  regular  package....would we do  it  again.....in  a  heart beat,  unless  we  were traveling with  move folks  than just  us

By opening door I won $250 & $25 OBC on the Caribbean Princess in October. Make sure to check your daily account, because I didn't even know I won until I saw it on our account during the cruise.

Only reason we added the perk was because of after final payment price of the cruise went down, and I called Princess and we got the upgraded perk.

I cashed most of it in the casino, since we already had so many other perks.

When I tried to upgrade ours I had to talk to 5 different people. First person told me the upgrade was going to cost me $3300, I said its supposed to be $25 per person per day thats only $250, second person said it was going to cost $752, I again said we already have plus and just wanted to pay the $25 to upgrade. Got no where there either, finally I got thru to someone who quoted me $258.80 the correct upgrade price so I said lets do it. Then I get transferred to billing to make my payment and they tell me I owe $758...... not only was that wrong it also screwed up my booking by kicking out my Casino rate and Free play. Took 2 days and 3 other people to get my original offers and promos back. Now I'm back to square one and still have no upgrade.. I'm also a little hesitant to try and upgrade again for fear I'll end up with a screwed up booking again, plus we leave in 14 days. I wish we could upgrade on board or thru the cruise personalizer

I'm going to give you a like just because you are honest about your tastes.  Nothing wrong with Boons.

I'm confused. You open your door and win a prize? It's just random?

Yep.  That is exactly how it works.  Totally based on a random number generator deep down in the computer system on board.  Right time and place to unlock your door, and you get a prize.

Casino booked cruises need ALL changes run through the casino dept. or run the very real risk of losing your casino paid cruise and/or all of your promos. It happened to me after adding transfers and insurance. I lost $400 in "refundable deposits" and $300 in casino free-play. I got the cabin but lost the $$.

Lesson learned.

My wife won the grand prize on the Discovery Princess on the repositioning cruise between Vancouver and Los Angeles in Sept.   Came as a great shock to us, as we only saw a single time on the door screen that we had an entry to the contest (when my wife opened the door).   Every other time we had a "Please Try Again" screen.

We were in the International Café, when the were announcing the names that they had drawn.  There were 2x $25, 1x $50 and then grand prize of $5,000.

They called my name and I went up, met the Captain, Cruise Director and his assistant.  They took photo's of me with a large cheque, the Captain even joked if I could fit it into my suitcase, which I declined to take.

We were given a small envelope, that I suspected was a cheque, but it was just my name on a card.  We were then directed to head to the Casino and they would give us the prize there.

Funny thing is the prize was awarded to me, when we went to claim it at the Casino, we were almost turned away, as they said someone else had won the prize from our cabin.   Turns out they picked my wife's name, but called me up for the photo's and award (maybe because I booked the cabin).

Darling wife walked away from the cruise with $5,000 cash in her pocket.

So if there are two or more people in the cabin, does one person approach the cabin and enter while the other person stands back; allow the door to close and lock, and then have the second person approach and enter the cabin?  (And if there is a third or fourth person in the cabin, rinse and repeat?)  Does this increase your chances of winning random prizes and/or get you more entries into the last night drawing?  Also, do you have to be present to win the prizes drawn on the last night?  I heard the drawing take place during our dinner on my recent cruise and thought to myself that I was glad that I wasn't involved in that, as it would have interfered with our evening plans considerably.

You don't have to be present on the draw, and there has to five minutes between door opening / closings.

Shockingly, we just won a cruise for 2 in a balcony room.  In addition we've won over $700 in onboard credit.  We're exactly half way through our 111 day world cruise.  So it has paid for itself for us.

I have upgraded mine through Cruise Personalizer. There is a huge banner on the "payments" page that advertises the packages and lets you upgrade. We have 2 cabins for our next sailing and I have plus in one and premium for the other. We will see how it goes 🙂
