True, but the actual meal costs less than $80.

I honestly don't think the quality of the meal in Crown Grill is that great. Though I live where we have amazing beef so I am not one that is overly impressed when I dine there. I was more in love with the warm bread this last time.

yea, we usually tip extra for speciality restaurants.

Now it's a thing of the past.

I guess the 'extra' $10 pp was your breaking point - might be ours also depending on OBC ( and if 'excursion credit' is indeed just OBC

The extra $10 per person wouldn't break us but it's a more a matter of principle.

I just don't want to pay extra for food that should be included.

If it means eating sub standard DR food, then so be it..... at least until another cruise line offers something better.

We eat perhaps a couple of times in the speciality restaurant on a 14 night cruise. In tge scale if things, $40 extra is nothing compared to the cost of the cruise.

And, if you go to an AI resort hotel, the cost of speciality dining has increased there as well.

Cruise lines are just as susceptible to inflation as any other business.

Yeah but we are talking 40-50 % increase quite a big jump

The increase is from $30 to $40 for the CG - substantial, but well below 40%.

I think Princess just decided to bite the bullet and go for a big increase now, meaning that they can then,  hopefully, hold the price for at least 18 months.

And just as susceptible to raising prices just because they can:

o Raising non-performing Internet price by 50%.

o Raising Plus package cost by 50% in less than 6 months adding dubious benefits

o Having Best Sale Ever pricing higher than before the Best Sale Ever while pretending most of the BSE benefits are free while actually charging $60/day/person for them.

Just as everything else, all prices are being raised in just about every commodity. People are just accepting a substantial increase without question.

Sabatini’s is going from $25 to $35 that is pretty close to 50%. Seems a bit extreme with no change to the food

It costs $12 to get a meal at McDonalds.  Eating at a halfway decent sit-down restaurant is at least $25 a person here in Minneapolis and a whole lot more in places like New York City, LA or Miami.  $40 for ribeye is a bargain and since we normally only eat in a specialty restaurant once a week this doesn't really affect our vacation dollars.  We have so much OBC to use that we actually never out of pocket.  To each thir own.

When you eat at those places, you have not already paid for a meal left uneaten elsewhere.

When you eat at a ship's specialty restaurant, you have already paid for a meal in the MDR that you are skipping.

It's humorous to think that some people consider OBC as play money. 😄

Well it sort of is when it is primarily nonrefundable. It's use it or lose it. So maybe Candy4040 just prefers to use it in Specialty Dining instead of casino,  shops, or excursions. And with changes to casino coming soon it'll only be dining, shops, or excursions. To each their own

I see many are thinking the same as me with the above comments.

If people buy all these extras they will keep them.

I eventually gave in and purchased Crown Grill & Sabatinis when They were not included in a promotion, but I am now done with supporting this.

I made my 2024 booking with Princess because of the low deposit, FCD, ports, ability to refare for price drops, pre buy water, elite perks, allowance to bring on wine, can soda, self serve laundry, and the familiarity I enjoy with this cruise line.

I am ok with crew appreciation increasing and basic fares increasing, but “ all this jazz” is not for me.  The desserts & fitness must have them laughing in the halls!

I would be willing trade my premium desserts with someone who doesn’t want their fitness classes. But I don’t imagine that could be arranged.

IMO- fitness classes should be for all- included in the cruise fare.  They are stripping away the we all have had access to in the past.

As I said- if people are willing to pay- they will keep asking for more money.

These packages are for drinkers of alcohol.
