Wishing all the good people here on CC a great Australia Day for you and your families & friends.

 

We are celebrating our great country with a family BBQ for lunch (steak, snags, chicken kebabs, salad & pavlova for dessert). Mum is joining us - she will be 88 next month, so she's seen a few Australia Days.

Happy Straya day to all our viewers. Have a good one.  In Batemans Bay there is a big bbq and flag raising, not many down there which is a worry.

Happy Australia Day. Have just watched the Australia Day Ceremony in Canberra. Very impressive and what a beautiful setting on such a beautiful day in Canberra. Proud to be Australian - Please let's all be one.

No, Lions Club and Rotary. $5 a snag sanga.  Scouts organise the flag raising.  I don't think Eurobodalla Council put in a cent, they are tightwads, too many pot holes to fill.  Great day for the beach, 30C.

That must have been a special day,  Last year I attended a ceremony at the Royal Adelaide Show, which was very moving.  

 

I used to love Melbourne's Australia Day celebrations, when I visited the Australian Open each year.  I'd enjoy visiting Government House, supporting local charities and seeing all the old cars.

I think the Lions Club and Rotary do a great service for the Community.  Sadly my friend's husband's Rotary Club is closing this year because of lack of younger members.  They always put on an Australia Day function, with my friend providing the Damper.

As a Kiwi - we're rather envious of Australia Day. We've been lucky enough to have been on a couple of cruise-ships on Australia Day and the party atmosphere is brilliant! Far better than the cringe-worthy efforts we have at home.. 😁

I did the usual, for me, Australia Day stuff. Woke up (always a good start). Had an appointment with Specsavers for a test and some new glasses. Bought a ready made salad from Coles then drove to Marmong Point, my club windsurfing spot, taking care to stay clear of the million or so cars and boat trailers parked around the lake. Then ate my salad and rigged my board and sail. By this time most of the boat traffic on the water had stopped for lunch. A nice nor'easterly sprang up and it was on to the water with my mates.

Because of the stiff breeze I reckon most of the boaties called it a day leaving the lake clear for us sailors.

Sailed for a couple of hours. Socialised with boardsailing mates. Drove home, roads were now clear of boat trailers. On the way picked up a a deilcious beef kebab for dinner from the Belmont Indian takeaway.

What great place to live.😁

 

Got home in time to watch the 6 o'clock news and wonder why  all those ratbags were screaming and marching through city streets. Poor lifestyle choice methinks or possibly poor potty training. Poor misguided souls.They don't know how lucky they are. In other countries they would have been hauled off the streets never to be seen again. Media gives them too much air time.

 

Cue. Sounds of Then.

Thanks, Neil, for this topic, which I've only just spotted.  Thanks also to Les, for another terrific and humorous contribution.  

We had a forlorn Australia Day aboard Cunard's Queen Elizabeth, sailing on what was promoted as an "Australia Day Cruise" (the second, Aussie leg of our three-week NZ-Aus cruise).  Several of us asked the QG Concierge why Australia Day wasn't being announced or celebrated in any way aboard.  She replied that Cunard was refraining from doing that because it was, and I quote, "a contentious issue".  I thought that ridiculous, and pointed out that we had just happily celebrated Burns Day (in Australian waters) by attending the well-attended Address to the Haggis in the Queens Lounge, which was followed by wonderful Scottish music and dancing.  Several of us agreed, and explained to the Concierge, that we wouldn't mind if the day was moved to another date, but that whenever Australia Day is held, it should be recognised and celebrated.  Until and if that happens, 26 January is the day.  What a copout.

The Batemans Bay celebration is always fantastic.
