I think I will do the HIA , I am feeling a little more confident now. I will say that Crew Appreciation, if you have it included in HIA, may still show up with a charge and credit. My husband feels like it would need to be for HAL's accounting purposes. Edited February 19, 2023 by seaoma
oakridger Posted February 20, 2023 #27 Share Posted February 20, 2023 As @seaomaexperienced, on my fall 2022 Nieuw Amsterdam cruise the crew appreciation did show up as a charge and credit. It was included in my HIA. I can't remember about the drinks though. ~Nancy
Rare Banditswife Posted February 20, 2023 #28 Share Posted February 20, 2023 We had 2-7 day (B2B) cruises this past fall & bought the HIA for each segment. On 1 leg we got 11 points & the 2nd leg got 14 points. We never spent any more than what was included in our HIA pkg. We did have the same amount of OBC for each portion too. At the end of our cruise our S&S bill was less than $10. We did spend some cash in the casino, but not a whole lot because we had casino credit too. I have no clue as to how they calculate these points.
Rare Turtles06 Posted February 20, 2023 #29 Share Posted February 20, 2023 We’ve only taken one HAL cruise to date, with our second (Norway and fjords) coming up in July, for which we have HIA. I’ve just read through this thread, and it makes my head hurt. I don’t know why cruise lines adopt such confusing policies. Hopefully, the OP will be a four star Mariner at the end of her next cruise. If the OP doesn’t mind, let me try asking the same question I think she was asking. Our cruise is 21 days; we’re in a Signature Suite, and, as I noted, we have HIA. Assuming for now that we have no additional on board spending, how many points should I expect to be added after this cruise? Thanks!

knittinggirl Posted February 20, 2023 #31 Share Posted February 20, 2023 We did a 10 day have it all in a suite. We ended up w/ zero bill, maybe even money back. Not real sure, because we didn't get a hard copy bill, and I didn't save the app version before we left the ship. The day before, they told us we had some non-refundable credit and refundable credit. crystalspin Posted February 20, 2023 #32 Share Posted February 20, 2023 (edited) @Curlingwhizand @Turtles06-- I have never had HIA or for that matter SBP, and not been credited spending days equal to Days on board. UNTIL our last 7-day HIA leg of a B2B over New Years. We got 9 spending days for the 9-day leg (I did pay for our dinners at Rudi's NYE, and also one shore excursion additional to the HIA one, for two of us). However, for the 7-day leg we were granted only 5 spending days. Fortunately we wound up two days over 4-star and not two UNDER! I would have been screaming and hollering if that had been true! However, if you're only looking for 4-days on a longer trip, I think HIA is going to cover you. Edited February 20, 2023 by crystalspin

We have only been on two (dipping our toes in the water) and did not do HIA as they were short Coastal cruises. Did your charges for drinks etc appear on your on board account and then get credited off due to your HIA purchase? I am probably sounding a little obsessive on this but I would sure hate to make the wrong decision and then still end up a point or two short of 4 star for our 2024 cruise..................and I really couldn't bear to deal with my husband!!! Sorry for delayed reply, but the clock struck midnight and it was time for my beauty sleep (major fail! 🤫) Drinks did not appear on the account. A few times they appeared in error, but were credited out (without requesting). Shorex using the HIA were posted to the account, after ticketing, with zero value. Speciality restaurants, using the free HIA promo, were also posted with zero value the day after eating there. As we pre paid crew incentive (not HIA, but pre paid by us) this credit was posted to the account in full on embarkation day along with the other sundry credits (stockholder etc) and the Crew Incentive was posted daily to the account. There were also a few 'sundry purchases' as DW calls her forays to the ship's shops on a sea day 🙄). Neither the additional purchases nor the crew incentive gained any additional cruise day credits.
yerdua Posted February 20, 2023 #34 Share Posted February 20, 2023 On zuiderdam PC cruise last november with HIA including crew appreciation for 14 days, in a veranda. Got credited 14 cruise days and 14 spending days. my understanding is that you cannot earn more spending days than the number of cruise days, so we maxed out. It showed on our statement each day as Marketing Promo $0.00. We were only charged for the difference in drinks over $11 plus tip, purchases in the shops (had to use up non refundable obc) and specialty dining over the HIA allowance. So sad because we are cruising in may with HIA plus crew appreciation and it will leave us 1 day shy of 3 star for our Sept cruise. I know... We're relatively new at this. Divi Posted February 20, 2023 #35 Share Posted February 20, 2023 16 day cruise on Zaandam in January. HIA with gratuities included. We never came close to the daily drink limit. We were credited with 16 sea days and 16 bonus days at the end of the cruise.
StLouisCruisers Posted February 20, 2023 #36 Share Posted February 20, 2023 On our Nov. - Dec. Volendam cruise we were onboard 28 days, and ended up getting those 28 days plus another 28 days for our onboard spending which was HIA and crew appreciation. Charges for drinks don't show on the statement nor did shore excursions and specialty dinners that came with the package. We paid crew appreciation which amounted to $868. No suite, just an oceanview room. 56 equivalent days for that cruise was very generous on HAL's part.
MAVIP Posted February 20, 2023 #37 Share Posted February 20, 2023 Tried to read all replies/discussions. Did I miss the line that you cannot earn more days than 1 per cruiseday? We are also wondering how points will be calculated. Trying to reach 5 star by June 2024. I’ll let you know when they post on our account. The only expenditures listed on the statement were Spa, shops, and shore excursions. @CurlingwhizOur points show up today. We got 18 days for the VB stateroom and 18 days for spending. Grand total of 36 for the cruise which leaves us 9 short of 5*. All we have to do is book and complete a 7 day cruise in a suite and we’ll be 5*. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

It is always great when people get back on a topic. After reading through this thread, I am now fairly confident that the HIA with a suite will give us about 30 points for our ten day trip in November so I am much more relaxed. And worst case scenario - if we are a couple points short - as we live near Vancouver, we can just pick up a quick cruise to nowhere to gain a point or two!
Living the Dream 67 Posted July 25, 2023 #40 Share Posted July 25, 2023 I read through all these responses and, yes, my head is spinning. It looks like HIA results in double points - 7 day cruise/7 bonus points. Similar but different question - I am going on a 14 day cruise next month. After much checking on rates, the travel advisor booked me in a higher cost fare without HIA (we dont drink alcohol so that package doesn't fit us) but with $1K of OBC and free gratuities. Ok, now in this scenario, will the $1K (that we have already spent on excursions) and the $448 of gratuity count in bonus points of 5? I, too, am close to moving from 3 star to 4 star and would like to be a 4 star by my next scheduled cruise later this year.

rickreck Posted January 8 #42 Share Posted January 8 Just go off the phone with Holland America. Have it all purchase is considered part of the cruise fare. If you want the points pay for everything on the ship.

We have always maxed out Mariner spend points while using OBC to purchase just laundry and one Specialty Restaurant dinner.

What makes you think the person is in Seattle? 😉 These days they could be anywhere, lol! In this case, I 100% agree with you. Too many of the HAL reps are new, don't know the product, have probably never been on a cruise, so it's almost a waste of time calling to ask anything! I've always gotten mariner days credit for HIA, with the most recent cruise being November 2023. Sue/WDW1972 2

I have checked my own Mariner points and we have always been credited with 1 point for spend each day we have had the Have it All package in place. Our only cruises where we did not get the full credit for spend pre-dated the Have it All option. We are nearing 5 star status as a result. ONBOARD SPENDING BONUS: One bonus credit will be granted for every $300 spent in onboard purchases. This is calculated on the combined folio charges for all guests on the booking, regardless of who signs each charge and who pays the bill. There is a limit of one bonus day for each day sailed, and 3rd and 4th guests on the same booking do not earn the onboard spending bonus.
donandmelissa Posted January 10 #49 Share Posted January 10 Recently did a 7 day Western Caribbean on Nieuw Amsterdam in which we had HIA. Our on board expenditures that were not included in HIA were $553. We received 14 credits. HIA must earn on board spending credits, else we would have received 8 or 9 credits.
Curlingwhiz Posted January 19 Author #50 Share Posted January 19 Original poster - I thought I should come back and update this thread. For our 10 day trip in December we received 30 points. 10 for cruise days, 10 for a suite and 10 for HIA. This, thankfully, did push us up to the 4 star level.
