New Suite Deposits Effective June 1, 2023

Recommended Posts

Beginning June 1, 2023, Royal Caribbean® is adjusting the deposit requirement for new suite bookings confirmed on or after this date. The new suite deposit requirement will be calculated as 10% of the cruise fare per guest and is applicable fleetwide. If the 10% value is less than the standard deposit amount, the required deposit amount will then revert to the standard deposit amount. This policy change will apply to all suite categories, including suite guarantees.

With this adjustment, Junior Suites will now align with all other suite inventory and deposits will be nonrefundable for new bookings created on or after June 1, 2023. At this time, deposit requirements for balcony, oceanview, and interior accommodations will remain unchanged.

  • Ourusualbeach changed the title to New Suite Deposits Effective June 1, 2023

"At this time" being some concerning words in the last sentence of the announcement regarding other deposits.

Also, from the FAQ:

Q. How do these changes apply to NextCruise bookings?
A. All NextCruise Suite bookings made on or after June 1st, 2023, will require 10% of cruise fare, per-person deposit.
Deposits for Junior Suites will now be nonrefundable deposits only, will no longer be reduced and will be calculated on the new percentage rules

Just another revenue stream.  Or should I say, a loan we provide to the cruise lines but don't make any interest from the loan.

Question though, not really, just an observation:  RCCL's usual sale is 30% off the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th passenger in the same stateroom.  Or whatever the sale is at the time, sometimes even better.  So, the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th passengers aren't required to pay as much deposit as the 1st passenger.  I liked the set rate better, obviously.

I wonder what they are going to do with the "Next Cruise Desk"?  Isn't one of the benefits of the "Next Cruise Desk" a lowered deposit rate?

Wonder if JS benefits will change to be in line  with suite benefits ( CK, etc)

Personally I think it’s a good change. It will stop those that book the suites as soon as the itinerary comes out hoping the price will go down and when it doesn’t cancel before final payment. This drives up the price for the remaining suites as the inventory is low. Hopefully this deters some of that.

Lowered deposits never applied to full suites

Just saw this.  We always book JS.  That sucks about Next Cruise bookings.  One of the draws was the lower deposit amount.  We currently have 11 cruises booked between now and spring 2025.  All are in JS (4 b2b's and 1 b2b2b). One b2b and the b2b2b were booked onboard.  Now, if they are treating JS more like GS and above, it's time to upgrade the benefits which was what I also heard was coming on our EN cruise last month.  I know I posted that before, so maybe this is a precursor to that.

Doubtful

The DL concierge on EN last month told us there are changes coming for JS so they get more suite-type benefits.

If they upgrade JS benefits, they’ll surely “upgrade” the prices.

They would have to enlarge CK for sure. On Harmony in January it was super crowded with the Suite Guests and Pinnacles. Or do you think they would take the perk away from Pinnacles if they allowed JS access?

My question is is the 10% deposit on the base fare?  Or is it on the fare after discounts as it's per person and as we know the discounted fares aren't always identical per person depending on the type.

Q. How will the 10% deposit amount be calculated? What happens if my client's booking has a discount applied to it –how will that be taken into account? A. The 10% deposit is calculated based on cruise fare after all applicable discounts and promotions have been applied.

They shouldn't have

Well, they have done it three times exactly the same way so far over the past two years.  I have booked five cruises in that time frame.

The other two cruises were casino comp upgrades which required full payments.

I just did the NextCruise $200 deposit on a suite.

Was it a JS or full suite. I’ve never been able to get a reduced deposit on a suite at NC. I never really cared anyway. Pay me now or pay me later…

It's a good thing they have computers to calculate all of that lol.  We've had plenty of cruises where a discounts are applied in such a way that one guest pays more than the other.

I retract what I posted, it's $500.00 per stateroom, not per person!  My bad.
