Navigator Incident in Mazatlan

speaking of food on lifeboats, we just did the tour on oasis. someone asked about food on the life boat. he said NO food and water allowed for 24 hours once you get on the life boat but inferred if you take meds you can drink .

he also said if the motors dont work they get 'big strong men' to turn the propellers.

The rule on no food or water for the first day is to stretch the rations as long as possible.  Unlike the expectations of most cruisers, that they will be only in the boats for a couple of hours, it is very likely that in many circumstances it will be days before folks are rescued from the boats.

The "big strong men" provide what we call the "ash breeze" (the oar power to move the boat).

A serious question ... is there a porta potty on lifeboats?

There is one below the floor in the NorthStar.

Yes, there is a big blue one that surrounds the boat, called the ocean.  In a survival condition, dignity and privacy have no bearing.

My wife would definitely be in shock.  She can't do an hour long car trip without stocking the car with  enough provisions to last a week and diving into them before we even get to the highway.

Mental note……along with any meds they say you should bring if ever you needed to be in a lifeboat…..you also need to bring a snack bag.😁

Quick stop at the WJ to grab cereal boxes.

Interestingly, cereal boxes weren’t to be found the day we tried on our last cruise (symphony).  Maybe they were out, but it seemed like they didn’t have those anymore.

I think it would be fun to volunteer to be the victim in a man overboard drill.  I'd even pay a little if they let me jump from  the promenade deck.  29.99 plus 18% gratuity sounds about right.

On one of my deployments to afghan, we went to the Police section to see how the work with their dogs. We put on a big paadded arm sleeve and started to run, arm out, then chased down by a guard dog who jumped on the arm. Very strong jaws, scary but fun.

My first tour of the falkalnds they SAR crew used to ask for volunteers to be kicked out into the water in special suits and picked up again by the hele. Never got to do it but those rhay did said it was dun, but again a little scary.

The good thing it was completely free and no need for a service charge either 😂

Maybe they could make some unique Keychain from the lifeboat and sell them in the Royal shops.

Ahh yes, much like the very first shot of HMS Surprise in Master and Commander.   (You have to really look for it, though.  🙂 )

I’m surprised at the number of jokes on this thread. That accident could have left someone dead; does anyone know if there was anyone in it when it fell? This incident is not a laughing matter at all.

It was immediately confirmed no injuries.   It was empty.
