grapau27 Posted June 23, 2023 #5 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Good morning. It is 59°F , cloudy and raining lightly. Thank you for today's daily reports. 3 good days. Interesting quote today. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you do usually out of jealousy there are always people who will dislike or even hate you. If we are true people we will be liked and loved for who we are. Rare rafinmd Posted June 23, 2023 #6 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Happy Friday. Thank you to Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann as well as the birthday wishes (so far, as I type) from @dobiemom and @cat shepard.. Best wishes for our Widow dailyites. I think I'll take a pass on pink, and yesterday was my day to let of of a tooth (minimal pain so far). I love today's quote but have not been to Grundarfjordur. I'll pass on the bass. My obvious alternative today is birthday cake. Off to Wegmans soon. Roy

Mr. Boston Posted June 23, 2023 #9 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Good morning everyone. Happy Friday. Looks like rainy weather for the foreseeable future here. Thank you for the daily report. Thoughts for all widows who strive daily to make lives for themselves. Letting it go is sometimes easier said than done but it’s worth the effort. Guess I’ll wear my pink oxford to work today. As a gay person, I had to learn today’s quote a long time age and it’s excellent advice for anyone. The meal and drink suggestions sound very flavorful. I haven’t been to today’s port but I do believe that Iceland is calling soon. Prayers for everyone on our prayer list. Happy birthday to Roy @rafinmd I hope you have a great day! Cheers to all of you celebrating happy events today! 🍾
StLouisCruisers Posted June 23, 2023 #10 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Good morning friends! Happy 80th Birthday Roy @rafinmd!! I hope you are feeling well after your extraction yesterday, and enjoy some cake and ice cream to celebrate.🎂 Thank you Rich @richwmn for today's Daily and Fleet Report. We may finally get a day without rain. It's 67 and cloudy now but we should see a partly cloudy day and 83F. Interesting group of days to honor. International Widows Day is a good way to create awarenss of the plight of widows including discrimination by some. Let It Go can mean either feelings or physical items. Many here are trying to do that by donating items. But sometimes we have emotional issues that we must let go to move on. And Pink Day! I like pink but in small doses. I'm not a fan of the quote. The menu suggestion is not on my list for dinner tonight or any night. I like the name of the drink but would probably not order it on a BHB. Hopefully the Pinot Noir is a good wine. Let's wait for Ann @cat shepard to tell us. Thanks to Ann, Debbie @dfish and Dixie @summer slope for F&B descriptions. Two days in history this morning. Iceland having the world's oldest parliament is surprising. Nice that today is also the founding date of the International Olympic Committee. I notice there are two BHBs in Akureyri, Iceland today so there will be lots of cruisers touring that area. Thanks to Vanessa @JazzyV for the Care and Celebration lists and keeping so up to date on them. Prayers for everyone in need of them especially the loss of passengers on the Titan submersible. May they RIP.🙏 I hope all our Dailyites feeling under the weather see improvement soon. As for the Celebration list, enjoy your special events and cruises! 🚢🥂 Today our port is Grundarfjordur, Iceland. We last had that port on June 13, 2022 and that is the only time so far. I plan to be in Grundarfjordur for the first time on Aug. 13, 2023 (DH's 75th birthday) while on the Zaandam. Looking forward to everyone's photos today! Here is the link to June 13, 2022. June 13 of last year was turnover day on my Island Princess cruise last year. We were in Southampton, and the following morning I tested positive for Covid, thereby missing several new ports for me in Norway. I regret missing those ports and hope to get there again someday soon. Hoping you all have a great day!
dfish Posted June 23, 2023 #11 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Happy Birthday, Roy! @rafinmd Good morning, everyone. I was up at 4:15 this morning and haven't been able to get back to sleep. The main problem is that I am so stuffed up. I checked and grass pollen is high and will be high through tomorrow. I hope that is the issue. I have no plans for today except for a lunch with former classmates and a zoom meeting this afternoon. And a nap. I'll be interested in pictures of Grundarfjordur. We are going there this summer and I'm really looking forward to it. Today's meal was a hard one to find. The actual recipes are behind a paywall at Epicurious. If you have a subscription or are eligible for free views, here it is: https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/roasted-black-bass-with-orange-flower-water IF not, here is the list of ingredients. Most of us should be able to figure out what to do with them. https://mealplannerpro.com/member-recipes/Roasted-Black-Bass-with-Orange-Flower-Water--1054998 Meanwhile the Food Network offers us this recipe for our bass. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/roasted-whole-black-bass-2128676 And Williams Sonoma has this offering. It uses blood oranges, which gets us close to orange water. Doesn't it? https://www.williams-sonoma.com/recipe/roasted-sea-bass-with-fennel-blood-oranges-and-olives.html I hope this finds everyone well. @rafinmd Roy, I am glad the pain is minimal. Enjoy some more ice cream. 17

Rare ottahand7 Posted June 23, 2023 #18 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Good morning. Happy birthday Roy @rafinmd. 🍾🎂 Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports @richwmn. Today is a day for me, I rarely wear pink and I probably won't be tossing anything today. Today's wine is attainable so it will probably be good. Passing the bass and the sweet cocktail. @JazzyV thank you for maintaining our Cares and Celebrations reports. A lot of people in our group are in our Cares list. Prayers for them, the people of Ukraine and the people on the submersible and their families. We had a great time fishing yesterday, a great thing to do on a 90 degree day. I got a delayed start because as we were ready to push the pontoon away I told John I would handle the push off. It was a freak accident but as John stepped on the boat dropped and crushed my big toe between the boat and the dock. I bet we have done that 50 times over the years . It was just a fraction of a second but my toenail was flowing blood. I told John to go fish and I would deal with it. I drove the UTV that we use to haul our gear down back up the hill and headed to the bathtub. Thankfully we have area rugs so no blood spots on anything that couldn't be wiped up. I climbed into the bathtub and peeled off my sandal and got to work. We had a large bottle of peroxide and I poured that on my toe. After I got that done I sprayed it with Betadine and started wrapping it. I had non medical absorbent pads and wrapped two around my toe and foot and the used wound wrap Ace bandage and secured it. Then I wrapped with wound tape to keep it secure. That done I needed a shoe. I went into John's closet and found a pair of pull on sneakers. I tried one and it fit over my bandage so off to fishing I went. The sneaker and pad were full of blood when we returned so I changed the wrapping and laid down for a nap. I hope I can find a larger shoe or just cut the toe open on another because the pressure on the toe causes the clot to break. There is no toenail left, I must have washed it down the drain with the peroxide foam. It only hurts when something touches it. So then we fished, we all caught bass which we don't eat. A fun day other than my accident. I am looking forward to the photos of today's port. @aliaschief thanks for the quick pic from Mont St. Michelle, one of our favorite places in France. Have a nice Friday everyone. Nancy Irises are still doing their thing. 17
1ANGELCAT Posted June 23, 2023 #19 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Good rainy morning, with more rain and possibly thunderstorms this afternoon. Happy Birthday 🎉🎂🎈 @rafinmd I’ve been to the site of the Iceland parliament many years ago. From what I remember it was outdoor in a park. Funeral services have been announced for the PSP trooper who gave it all. Jacques F Rougeau Jr will be laid to rest on Tuesday June 27 in Erie. 💔🙏 Blessings and prayers to all on our lists. 14
smitty34877 Posted June 23, 2023 #20 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Happy 80th Birthday to Roy! I hope cake is on the menu today. I have watched my closest friend and my DSIL go through being widowed and give them both a lot of credit for their difficult experiences. Both found that some people within their friend groups were not welcoming. We have not been to the port, will pass on the bass and look truly awful in pink. I just have one more pre op prescription to pick up today. We are planning to cook outside today if the weather cooperates. I need to make a few salads. DH requested potato salad and I want to try a different recipe I found for beans. It is the last day of school here.People along the street have put up signs for their graduates.I spoke to a young woman who is graduating tomorrow from the same Catholic school I went to.I told her the year I graduated and she asked what it was like then.We had a good laugh about rolling up the uniform skirts to shorten them.I told her that back then boyfriends could not pick up girlfriends at the school. She thought that was ridiculous....I agreed.... Have a good day everyone 25
Rare kazu Posted June 23, 2023 #21 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Thanks for our TGIF Daily, Rich. I’m in pink and didn’t even know it was Pink Day. Sadly, I celebrate widow’s day every day. If I could celebrate Let it Go day more it would be a big help. Sadly, it’s easier said than done 😔 I like today’s quote and yum on sea bass 👍 I wasn’t on yesterday - just in too bad a spot - got rid of more of DD DH’s stuff (felt like a traitor), worry on Ivan & memories of Marley came back and our upcoming anniversary. Guess I was celebrating widow’s day early. so, to catch up - happy belated birthday to @ottahand7’s John. Roy @rafinmd a very happy 80th birthday to you. Hope the molar loss doesn’t cause you too much grief today. @Seasick Sailor So sorry about your medical issues. I hope things improve and we see you back here soon. 🙏🏻 @cruising sister congrats on the new Kia and selling the mustang. That was tough to do and I know, very emotional. I need to do something about ‘our’ huge SUV. Inventory has been low here and no negotiation so I’m not keen on it yet and, I don’t think I am strong enough to do it. Gerry @ger_77 thank you for asking about Ivan. I wasn’t sure yesterday and worried - I think I look for things to worry about with the vet even mentioning the C word. 😔 Yikes on the fire and bridges closed 😬 Bruce @aliaschief enjoy Mont St Michel. I loved it. Vanessa @JazzyV so sorry about your BFF’s car - as if there wasn’t enough to deal with already 😔 Nancy @ottahand7 oh my heavens on your toe 😔. Have you had a tetanus shot in recent time? If not please get one. Wondering it is should be checked by a physician? Sandi @StLouisCruisers - so sorry Ren’s team lost but you are right to be proud of him for how far his team got 👍 Annie @marshhawk so sorry to hear about your back. I’m sorry but it doesn’t sound right that you can’t get medical attention because you are coughing. Prayers for those on the Care list & for those that need them and cheers 🥂 to those celebrating. Have a great Friday everyone !!! 29
cat shepard Posted June 23, 2023 #22 Share Posted June 23, 2023 (edited) Thank you for today’s R & D, Rich! It has been pouring since before we got up this morning. Bindi is not happy. She had to take care of business in stages. And I am on my second change of clothes already! Vanessa thank you for taking great care of our happenings. Debbie & Dixie, I am proud to be a member of the F & B department with you! Gym, Bindi walks, chores, and maybe some salad prep for the salad I plan to bring to my friend’s for dinner tomorrow. Prayers for all who need our support. @smitty34877 Terry, keeping Lou, you and the rest of your clan in my prayers. I will include Lou’s medical team. Cheers to all who are celebrating! I hope you are one of them, Roy! Enjoy that birthday ice cream - how lucky to have a medical excuse. Get well & stay well everyone! *********** Alloro Pinot Noir Chehalem Mountains 2018 This Willamette Valley Pinot Noir sounds lovely. Lots of consumer and critic fans. I would love a taste, though I would have a tough time paying its price when there are so many reasonable amazing offerings out there. I found it online for $25.00 from an auction house or $44.99 from a distributor Winemaker Notes #38 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2022 A blend of all Alloro Vineyard's older Pinot noir blocks, crafted to represent a complete expression of their estate and showcase its distinctive personality. WS93 Wine Spectator Alluring for the silky texture and elegantly layered raspberry, toasty spice and orange peel flavors, which gather richness and polish on the lingering finish. Drink now through 2028. W&S92 Wine & Spirits This starts out spicy and dark, with scents of clove, turf and black cherries. Just from the scent it feels like it’s going to be rich—overly so; but, instead, the flavors are deep and focused, with pronounced linear movement that comes off as vibrant and lively. JS92 James Suckling Some brambly, herbal accents, across red berries and cherries here. The palate has a smooth, juicy core of fresh and pure red cherries with a late, spicy build. Drink or hold. Rare ottahand7 Posted June 23, 2023 #23 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Thanks for the well wishes @kazu. It is an hour drive to town. I have had a lot of skin wounds because my skin is paper thin from taking high dose Advair for 12 years. I watched the last time I had a wound hospital treated and stocked everything they used at both houses. The key is the peroxide and Betadine and non adherent gauze. Then the medical Ace bandage to secure everything. It is the equivalent of a surface skin wounds in a very bad spot. I just went to my closet and found a sandal that had two straps. It fits over my foot with the Velcro strap wide open. 23
Heartgrove Posted June 23, 2023 #24 Share Posted June 23, 2023 Thank you Rich, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work. And thank you everyone for being here! Happy Birthday, Roy! When we were in Iceland in 2021, we drove around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula where Grundarfjordur is located. It is a only small town that would serve as a jumping off point for a ship's excursions to the beautiful peninsula. Located nearby is Kirkjufell Mountain (it resembles a mini-Matterhorn) and the Kirkjufellsfoss Falls. I will post some photos later. No painter all week due to constant rain that may finally let up next Thursday, Yesterday the city surprised us by starting to spruce up our neighborhood and repaving our neighborhood's streets. Growing up in Chicago where potholes were a constant, it suprises me when local governments in MD and VA repave streets that the Midwest would be envious of.
