Medallion re-use

Can the medallions be reused on another cruise or do they issue one for each cruise?  Besides being the color of your Captains circle, do they have by default anything engraved on them such as name etc?

I suspect the battery doesn't last that long.  Although you could use the same one for B2B or maybe a longer cruise without swapping out.

If they were like apple airtags the battery is not that hard to replace and uses a standard CR2032

I just looked at one I have here, and it doesn't have, at least that I can see, an obvious path to get to the battery without tearing up the medallion.

I think when one is defective onboard, they just give you a new one.  Again, not 100% sure.  Perhaps others will chime in.

They are only reused on a b2b (same ship) and yes it does have your name, ship and sail date of the first cruise you’re on.

The batteries last about 30 days, varies according to when the battery as installed.  We’ve done many b2b’s and just stop at GS if the battery is low. Replaced in just a few mins. No big deal.

Yes, they replace it for you GS.

On our first cruise shortly after the restart, my medallion died before I even got on the ship!  Had to jump through hoops just to board!  Personnel had no clue how to handle it.  Finally, was just allowed to board with the instruction to "Go to GS...they will give you a new one."

Medallions can't be reused.  Your name, ship name, and embarkation date are laser engraved on them.  I presume that Princess engraves the ship name and embarkation date so that port security can check to make sure you are a passenger before allowing you entrance into the Terminal.  This was the case in San Juan and Ensenada; passengers had to show their Medallion to gain entry into the terminal complex.  Once in Cabo, ship security at the tender area shoreside were giving an ocular inspection to Medallions because the tablets used for passenger control ran out of battery and a new replacement hadn't come from the ship.

The only time a Medallion can be "re-used" is if you are a on a B2B cruise.  You won't be reissued a Medallion at the start of the new segment and you will use the the same Medallion for both segments.  Even if your Medallion dies during the 2nd segment, the replacement Medallion issued will still have your embarkation date from the 1st segment engraved on it.

Simple answer, No.  Simple question why would you want to?

For me, the Medallions become garbage after a cruise.  I know some people like to save them as a memento.  Since there's a battery inside, are we allowed to toss them in the trash?  In some states, that's prohibited.  Being able to reuse/reactivate them would be a nice eco friendly feature.  Never had this problem with a cruise card because it's one trip though the shredder.

On our last cruise we had two tags fail. Customer services replaced without delay but I wondered if they had battery failures.

We recycle them just like regular batteries

They have always lasted 14 days for us. We will be on a 20 day b2b next month and will see if they last.  We are in the casino a lot so they so get a workout

On another post someone posted they use their old medallion as a ball marker when playing golf.

It’s a little thick for that any ball hitting it would be thrown off course

My Apple Air Tag holder covers my name and ship.  Never had an issue boarding.  Security never asked me to remove my medallion so they could read my name.

I was on a 25 day b2b.  Medallion battery gave out the night before disembarkation (6 pm),  I had just checked in at CC MDR (they don’t check medallions after the first couple of nights) when I had to go back to my stateroom.  Couldn’t get in…side trip to Customer Service…quick replacement….return to MDR…Table set up for my return.

They don’t look at the printed stuff on the medallion just check to make sure the medallion is for that cruise and check your security picture. I regrew my beard awhile ago and they took a new one. We have changed cabins after getting the medallion so the cabin number means nothing to anyone.
