New Princess Lunch Menus

I'm thrilled with the breakfast menu.  Sure beats my normal yogurt, Corn Flakes, O.J. with only a cooked breakfast once a week.😂

Embankment Lunch? Here is it hosted? Guess I've been too excited to be onboard that I haven't taken notice...but I'm a newbie with only 2 cruises under my belt.

Yes, one MDR is open for lunch on embarkation day. Full sit down table served multi-course luncheon menu.  12-1.30pm.

Usually a midship MDR.

Is that shown on the Princess Platter after we get on the ship, or should one ask beforehand?

Yes, the respective dining room will be listed on the event listing/patter. Go to Guest services to ask for copy as usually you do not have access to your cabin yet or your steward has not delivered yet. Many Royal class ships and the Sapphire, uses the dining room on deck 6 aft for Embarkation/sea day lunch and breakfast.

Some crew when asked, will tell you no dining room open for Embarkation lunch, just check the patter/event listing. There  have been a few rare cases where embarkation lunch was not being offered in a dining room.

You can certainly ask when you board, but it is probably best going to each MDR in turn to find the one that is open. We have found sometimes crew will blatantly lie and tell you only the buffet is open: the last two times we explicitly asked about the MDR embarkation lunch and each time crew members told us the MDRs are all closed and we should instead go to the buffet.

We now know to go to the MDRs to find the open one: which doesn’t take long.

I don’t mind the repetitive breakfast menus.  I generally rotate through the same two or three things for months at a time. But with the one standard lunch menu, I guess chicken korma is a thing of the past.

Likewise for breakfast. I have 3 basic breakfasts and mostly rotate

We don't usually do MDR breakfast but, when we do, I tend to order OJ or Tomato Juice, Fruit Yogurt, and Eggs Benedict with Hollandaise on the side and a bottle of Tabasco. Once in a great while I ask for an omelet but they sometimes screw it up and give me the wrong ingredients so I tend to shy away from that option.

I have a few items that normally serve as my breakfast.

1. Toasted bagel with nothing on it. (I like them this way.)

2. Cold cereal of some kind (not very often)

3. Eggs with hot chili rings and garlic. I grow Fresno chilies. In the summer I eat them fresh but can't possibly eat them all so I "gut" them and then cut them into rings which I stick in baggies in the freezer. For the eggs I put butter into a small non-stick pan and layer it with hot chili rings. I add diced garlic and simmer for a while then add two beaten eggs. (I usually add onion powder to the eggs when beating.) I sprinkle a bit of Celery Salt on top and cook slowly until the eggs can be turned over as a single piece and then cook a bit more on that side to ensure they are done. My wife and kids think I'm crazy but I love eggs with hot peppers!

One thing I liked about our most recent cruises was that Princess offered Jalapeno peppers in their omelets and at the Salty Dog Grill. At least they were listed as Jalapenos but the little pepper rings were so tiny they looked more like Serrano peppers. (I've never seen Jalapenos that small...) I could get the chili rings in the buffet, at MDR breakfast in my omelet or, as I said above, at the Salty Dog Grill. When on Lido deck I put the chilis on my hamburger, tacos, etc. When I go pizza slices I would take them over to the grill area and put peppers on the pizza. I was utterly shocked to find the hot pepper readily available on a Princess ship. It's about time. I did see them one other time at the back portion of the buffet on Caribbean Princess. If you walked aft past the "regular" buffet to the Planks/Steamers area the breakfast buffet was continued there and they had hot peppers for omelets.

Thanks for the info....I'm putting it in my calendar with a reminder - "embankment lunch - MDR". See ya there 😅

Waffles, crepes and French toast daily. When I was on HAL they had banana bread French toast. They could be more creative and have variety of pancakes as a choice (chocolate chip, banana, blueberry, strawberry, etc...).

One thing I have read on these boards several times is to request James' Beard French Toast for breakfast in the MDR on Princess (not on the menu, but you can get it).

This is one thing that I was shocked they did not offer on RCCL when we 1st started sailing with them.  It is one thing we really enjoy on NCL cruises and will definitely be doing this embarkation day on Princess this March.

I have never tried this but a lady sitting beside us on the last cruise ordered it.  She asked me if I'd ever tried the frozen french toast and when I said no she said "well, I was going to offer you a slice of my James Beard French Toast but it's even worse than the frozen "crap".  Each to their own I guess but I'll say it's not for me.  😂

Something I would love to find on Princess is actual, American Style, Hash Brown Potatoes. Not cottage fried potatoes, and definitely not that hockey puck they pass off as hash browns. I would also love to get American Bacon that wasn't nasty, slimy, ultra thin, crud.

Note: I never order Sunny Side Up eggs as shown in the image above. I order Over Medium eggs. (Over Easy leaves me with nasty runny egg white.)

You can order anything for breakfast. Doesn't have to be on the menu.

Are you referring to the MDR or suite breakfast. I really think if you try to order steak for breakfast in the MDR you will be disappointed

We were having breakfast in MDR (before the shutdown) and a guy asked for Minute Steak. The waiter said he would have to ask. After a short while he came out and said they were preparing 2 Minute Steaks. The guy said he had only asked for 1 and another person who had heard the exchange said he would love the other one. It wasn't a "gimme" but the waiter did go ask and was successful.

I know the James Beard French Toast is available for the Sabatini's Breakfast but don't know if they will provide it at the "peon" MDR breakfast.

It is usually served on the last day of the cruise.  That's the only day we get up early enough for MDR breakfast.  It has been available for lunch in the MDR along with eggs 'benny', unless this is one of the changes to the lunch menu.  Will tell you after next week.

I'm always amazed that Eggs Benedict shows on the "brunch" portion of the Lunch menu but isn't listed on the Breakfast menu. They usually list Eggs Florentine (Bleeech!!!) but I ask for Eggs Benedict and they bring it anyway. Darn near the same dish. Very weird menus. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich from the Lunch menu. Nope, nope, nope. I know what a Monte Cristo is and what they brought me was definitely not a Monte Cristo.

This is one of my huge peeves with Princess. I order Chili Relleno and they bring a stuffed bell pepper. Not the same thing. My wife ordered Jambalaya and they brought white rice with a couple of shrimp. I ordered Street Tacos and I receive a small bowl with an unheated tortilla in the bottom and a small pile of lettuce on top. All of these are a big fat no!!! If they offer something on the menu they should at least have some slight idea of what it is and not insist that their bogus substitution really is what's listed on the menu.

This thread makes a good case for cruising on Seabourn.  On that luxury line you can get very good eggs benedict (in the Collonade) made to order with excellent hollandaise sauce.  On our last SB cruise, they also made terrific hash browns adultrated with some bacon/bacon fat.  Yum.

Can I get a full suite for $4,000 dollars on a 14 day cruise on a casino deal ?  That’s for 2 people.

The James Beard French Toast is on the Brunch menu in the MDR most days.  I say most days since it is always on the menu when we go there but we don't go to the MDR for lunch every day.
